Basically what the title says.
Anime rarely get tagged shoujo lately, meaning 'specifically targeted for a girl audience'.
In example: Tensei Oujo to Tensai Reijou no Mahou Kakumei which has two female MC's, and feels targeted at the young girl demographic doesnt get the tag.

The only time I still see the tag is because it is a reverse harem.
Is it?

Or what makes it specifically shoujo

It's tagged as shoujo because it's based on a shoujo manga, it ain't that hard man
Also MAL sucks at tagging so a lot of anime that should have the shoujo tag often don't
If you're unsure of what demographic an anime or manga is in and MAL isn't telling you, searching it up on Wikipedia is usually the best bet

Cause its adapted from a shoujo manga. The manga was shoujo because it was published in a shoujo magazine. It was published in a shoujo magazine because its target audience was girls.
Just because the target audience is girl doesn't mean that boys can't enjoy it. Many guys enjoy shoujo anime while many females enjoy shone anime.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Fair. I hoped I could start relying more on tags, because it feels we have a buttload of anime coming out lately.
There also have been anime lately I enjoyed alot, but felt more directed towards the female audience.

I already do not like the harem trope, and reverse harem is definitely a big no go for me then.
I'll give it a try then, its just with shounen's I know exactly what to expect and 99% of the time I receive just that. With shoujo....?!

I did not know about the magazine part, which makes alot of sense. I absolutely agree with the latter part, both men and women that i know who watch anime say the same.

Well this is not a reverse harem so you don't have to worry about that

If you are in doubt look for the anime in some other sites like Anlist or Anidb, these have tags added by users and it's more useful to find out what is shown and how much of it is shown in some cases.
MAL should add these too (unless they already exist and I missed them xD)
