Why are people mad this isn't a yuri show

IMO. No friends act like that, only people who have some kind of romantic interest in each other, interact as the girls did in that anime

So when they chose to be hateful towards lesbians ofc people that like Yuri are going to get angry. If you chose to provoke people by shitting on something they love you are kind of asking for a reaction

If they don't want people to get angry. Well then they can stop with the bait =P simple as that
