Without getting into spoilers for the people that haven't read the original work, looking at the list of characters that have voice actors, one can assume that, at the very least, the anime will cover until chapter 53. I feel that one cour may be too little to cover that much, but with two cours they may have to go beyond chapter 53.

So, what you people think? How many episode would you prefer for this adaptation?

Im hoping for a 24 episode season but expecting a 12 episode season. if it does end up being a good adaptation, i hope it does well enough to convince the studio to do a second season. would love to see the whole story finished.

I think you're probably right about chapter 53, just depending on the characters. I really don't think they would stop in the middle of that section of the story, and there's a pretty satisfying character moment that would work pretty well to end a season on. Well, at least assuming this is going to be two cours. If it is one cour, then this anime is a lost cause. The pacing issues would be immediately noticable, and I'd drop it pretty quick. If it's two cours, I actually think it could work pretty well. Helck is a pretty dense manga, and there's a lot of optional extra content they could adapt that would really add to the flavor of the show. If we take that into account, I think they could probably fill two cours quite nicely if they go up to that point. If they still have room to fill, chapters 54 and 55 could also be used as good stopping places, but the section of the story right afterward is pretty long.

I think that a 24 to 26 episodes run could comfortably adapt the entire comic, including many supplementary chapters, so that's I'm hoping for.

Am I just... misremembering how much there was in the manga? I don't feel like they'd be able to adapt the entire thing in that many episodes without cutting a ton and rushing everything else. I'm probably being optimistic in thinking they wouldn't do that though.

Speaking quite frankly, I'm probably the one misremembering things because it's been a long while since Helck ended and I still haven't gotten around to read it again (need to grab the licensed volumes).
I'm inclined to believe you when you say that six months worth of episodes might seriously not be enough to properly adapt the whole work, but at the same time I just don't see the Helck anime's production committee greenlighting Helck as a 26+ episodes TV anime.

No, you might be right. I've seen people elsewhere claiming that with 24-26 episodes they would adapt the entire manga too. Having reread it less than two months ago, I just feel like doing something like that would wreck the pacing. I feel like a ton of scenes would need to be skipped, especially if we take extra chapters into account (many of which are important to the story). The broad strokes of the story are pretty simple and easy to remember, but the manga is pretty dense with how it presents things. While I would definitely prefer that scenes aren't skipped, and that the pacing not be rushed, you're probably right, it's exactly the kind of thing you can expect from anime adaptations, especially ones with as average-looking productions as we saw in the trailer.
