This is a great character relationship establishing moment.

By this point we have already seen that Gundou and Jun have an antagonistic relationship, but it was only verbal.

So afterschool Gundou and and Jun are waiting for Tomo and it is raining. They both forgot their umbrella so they are hoping to go home with Tomo. To amuse herself Gundou starts needling Jun about his relationship with Tomo and what would happen if she started hanging out with another boy.

Jun suddenly pushes her into the rain to get her to shut up. There is no warning, no build up, he just pushes her. Silence, just the gentle sound of the rain falling.  Gundou looking back and up at Jun, Jun's face unreadable.

I'm willing to bet this is the first time Jun had ever used force to stop Gundou from teasing him, she almost looked shocked. I wonder if it was also the first time she really understood that he liked Tomo, even if he couldn't admit it to himself. Also we never see him lay a hand on her again. This reinforces that this was an extreme no go area for him.

Another interesting thing is that we learn later

So any way this was a great meaningful moment.

I actually preferred that moment when Jun as a response to Misuzu's teasing casualty took off her hairband and threw it away.
Besides it being so hilariously random, it perfectly emphasized their slightly hostile relationship and how they tend to harmlessly mess with eachother.

i love those moments when these little actions show a kind of relationship/personality, without them having to say anything.

I hope it continues like this and that more animes are inspired by this

I think the adaptation is building beautifully, and that moment definitely made me gasp and appreciate how the characters are complex and driving the drama forward. Of course, there’s so much silliness in the story, but I really think that they aren’t afraid to have moments of sincerity.

the nonchalant push was so funny, and the expressions surrounding it.

Went into this not knowing what it would be, but loving it.
