I think the score should be over a 7, but that's only because it should be around a 6 when you compensate for inflation.

I was tempted to give it a 5 because booba but my brain overcame the horniness and objectively the story and characters are extremely below mid so I gave it a 4.

Just too many people with bad taste. Devilish Onee-san Heroine is just what I am looking for.

Please don't taking the rating seriously, you can find a lot of people, with bad taste or too bias opinions, in the rating sections.
Same bad issues with DomeKano manga. A least to me, Domestic no Kanojo is a masterpiece but too many narrow haters in the myanimelist review section. The later behavior, of how people harassed Sasuga-sensei on twitter, was unacceptable honestly (surprising so many "man-child" readers online).

No series is as ever bad as its rating is shown its just all the obese fatties with no type of life flood the first set of ratings with low and bad reviews which leads to many shows getting low scores
That's why I pay no attention to reviews and rating and watch a series long as the summary piques my interest

Do people here even care about setups in stories? The teacher guy was such a forced villain and author made a lame excuse to separate our duo which hugely nerfed the FMC.
It's rating is on higher side. It should be 6.5-6.6

Anime was it's best 20000 years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth.
Modern anime is all garbage. I miss great old days of anime.

It was very generic. Generic plot, generic development, nonexistent world. It really didn't leave any lasting impression at all. Everything just casually casual. Animation is pretty good with what looked like colored manga pages for settings like dorm, which was kind of cool.

No world building occurred. We didn't really get any information for the world at all until the flashback at the very end and information that was provided was nothing at all (name of the continent and rough time line for the setting). All we know is this is magic school and without familiar you're screwed, hell we didn't learn there were other schools and this is an elite school till second half of the anime. No explanation whatsoever why Alto has gold(???) mana that few characters comment on when they see him cast magic. And that mana turns silver(???) later on just cuz (I mean we can guess its cuz of demon heart but nothing is explained nor expanded upon).

I was very curious about those dueling platforms with millions of steps going into the sky just shown everywhere in backdrop but nothing was explained about those...

I can keep going but bottom line is, this anime was just plain mediocre. Score is little inflated cuz of oppai imho, but that is fine lol. I gave it a 6.

Late to the party, but here I am:

The relationship between Alto and Vermeil was what saved the show. Yes, it lived off booba and ara ara energy, and that is fine. It's what you expect when you start watching this show.

The problem was that the Big Conflict(tm) was superficial, the bad guy seemingly has no motivation except "ha ha evil is fun" and the world building is pretty flat. The ending screams for a second season, but there is practically no room for the main characters to develop, they have sorted out their feelings for each other.

I usually have one of two gripes with anime: Either it drags on and nothing really happens, or the studio tries to cram far too much into far too few episodes. In this case, the pacing is good, I felt entertained, but in the end I feel like not much was happening. It was a fine time waster that won't get you invested too deeply, and when it's over, you move on.

Could have been much more.

I personally thought it was okay, actually a little better than I expected going in: some nice comedy here and there, a touching background story for one of the main characters, some good drama too.
Not the best fantasy or ecchi series I've ever seen, far from that, but it is decent overall: it has a plot, knows where it's going, and its characters are fairly interesting.
An average score of 6.8 among 100k people is really not that bad imo, it indicates most people who saw it believe the show is 'decent' or even 'good' I think.

@light_straight the picture quality is 10/10. wtf do you expect from a ecchi anime?
this anime is minimum 7.5/10 even with all the complaints. 6.8 is dogshit rating.
for me, this is a 10/10 given that how most ecchi anime sucks in terms of story or quality but median should be 8. how many anime are better than this since dxd?

There haven't been many good ecchi anime in the last few years, and I think Vermeil in Gold is one of them.

Keep in mind that every ecchi anime is rated 0.6 lower just because it's ecchi. 7.47 would make sense, for a non-ecchi version of Vermeil in Gold (even though an ecchi fan would like it less, but that's how the majority thinks).

@Nirinbo holy fk. why are ecchi animes getting terrorized? just dont watch it if you dislike it. stop sabotaging i knew it when i watched every ecchi and this is easily one of the best 10/10. peolpe rating below 10 doesnt like ecchi.

@nonsenseone1 My guess is that:

1) those people did find one or two exceptions they liked, so they'll keep watching ecchi anime even if they're going to dislike more than 90% of them just because of their genre
2) they are completionists, so they will always complete those anime and rate them low

Jeez. This whole discussion is mostly just another case of people apparently not even understanding the 1-10 scale properly. 6.8 is a pretty decent score, not a bad score, and thus doesn't say the show is bad. Also things like it being ecchi doesn't really give it leeway one way or another - in other words "lewdness" doesn't let it off the hook as far as normal review criteria goes. 10/10? Give me a fricking break. Or should I say "nonsense"? However given the overall score is an aggregate of all kinds of people's opinions, you have your ridiculous 10/10s as well as your ridiculous 1/10s, so to a degree they balance each other out. Can't really be helped beyond that, people being people.

Personally I've not finished the series yet but so far the 6.8 it is at seems reasonably representative.
