shinpei parents are alive cause they changed the future.....his parents died cause of HIRUKO but shinpei and ushio stopped Haine from meeting hiruko in the past

we can clearly see SHINPEI texting with his mother at the last ep

P.S. : watch the last ep one more time cause it was a bit confusing...it will give you much clarity

correct me if I'm wrong, but his parents are some sort of researchers or something like that, so they are mostly not at home. seems like shinpei still played with mio and ushio, but he didn't live with them in one house, so they are close, but not that much, for example ushio called him "ajiro-kun" in more formal way

They are alive, which leads to some other points.

I remember saying that the ending felt rushed because of the more fight scenes and less explanation, even though I enjoyed it. But the thing is, after changing the entire 300 years of history, the consequences also change, which is literally the butterfly effect that every time travel story has to deal with.

As such, we see that Shinpei's parents are alive at the end, meaning he was never adopted into the Kofune family. So his relationship with Ushio and Mio is going to be different.
Or, either by erasing Hiruko, the scene where "giving the islanders a big fish to eat and saving the island's population before they die" is also gone, so how they survived and some other things throughout the 300 years of Hiruko's life.

But I have my own theories/points for liking the ending and satisfying some of these points I mentioned, so I'm fine with it.

They are alive, he was texting his mom at the start of episode 25.

His parents are alive, but still play no role in this story and that didnt changed his relationship with Ushio and their past together. Just like Shinpei literally going to the island at the final episode. Reason for doing so is different, but he goes there anyway.

His parents are alive for well-explained reasons. If I remember correctly from previous episodes, and correct me if I'm wrong, his parents were close to Ushio's parents and by extension their kids would be close. Not to mention that it's an island with small population and all of them are friends.

OMG you are right, it happened at 4:26 but none of the text was translated on Disney+ lol. I had to google translate to verify the recipient.

Damn that explains, I thought the formality was cause he left for Tokyo but this explanation makes more sense considering the takoyaki scene.

I have no more questions, thanks for the explanations everyone.

I had this same question about his parents. Didn’t realize that sms was significant. Can someone possibly post here what the sms was on?
