So Hayami's mother died while giving birth to him and therefore his sister hates him, thinking he is the one responsible for this, poor guy.
So far good pacing of show.

Rewatching this after who knows how long but omg it's still amazing... the dub is incredible, Laura Bailey is outstanding as Sana. The 3/5 episode rule on this was *chefs kiss*

I never realized or maybe didn't understand the depth of how suicidal Akito really was. The moment with the knife is really scary and the gravity of that scene is one of the moments that never left my brain.

Despite the abuse the sister is still presented to us as a person and not a fixed character trope, that's a perspective I love to see in writing.

And even after the whole classroom situation is fixed, thinking about the reasons why Sana would be drawn to him/by extension helping the family ugh what a good girl y_y

Oh God, this show... it's something else... AND I'M SO IN LOVE WITH IT!

To be completely frank, I've always fantasized about this kind of set-up in anime: a suicidal/troubled intelligent introvert having a super extroverted cheerful girl just barging in and trying to fix them up.

Now I see why it's rated PG-13 (was pretty bewildered after the first three episodes), it deals with fairly depressing themes.

They're both children, but nonetheless Akito is forced to deal with problems nobody should, whereas Sana has lived in a fantasy-esque sheltered world all her life — her reactions to the alien mind and situation of Akito were nothing short of interesting and entertaining, always wanted a scene/situation like that in anime.

Akito's sister simply projects her frustrations/anger on him, I really doubt she genuinely thinks it's his fault or anything. Seen a lot of cases like Akito's sister's — people utilizing each other as objects of problem-dumping, they are unhealthy relationships without exception.

No, Sana, football isn't funny at all. That dummy instead was.

Now, after reading all the previous comments, it was already surprising that italian airing didn't try to censor or edulcorate what happened to Akito's family, but...knives? That was a no-no word for afternoon time slot aimed at young kids and i just saw none of them (until i looked for some pictures and an italian anituber lady's clip that made a better job of explaining why Sana returned home crying). The italian theme song focused on the troublemaker kids of the classroom but now i'm asking if it will stay as a main part of the plot just five episodes in. It's a shame how moral guardian parents of those times abused their power in forcing censorship in anime that were sort of forced into becoming almost totally different shows, it's something i already noticed hard after watching Kimagure Orange Road recently. The amazing voices actors of this country never deserved this.

This show is amazing, I knew it would be good going in but I jumped in assuming it was 100% comedy based and not going to be anything too special, but it somehow mixes its insanely wacky humor with some really heartwarming, gut wrenching and insanely emotional moments and it all works so well together. I'm less than 5% into the show and I already want to rate it a 10, and Laura Bailey's voice work here is perfect too, along with the rest of the english dub cast. For once I'm 100% certain I'm gonna finish a series that's this long, this one's really a gem.
Love can sometimes be magic. But magic can sometimes...just be an illusion...
