So this movie turned out to be a prequel to the ongoing series. Pretty good story adaption to be honest.
Even the best of geniuses start at the bottom. Ye Qiu went on his way to fulfill his best friend's wish of winning the championship. Truly a Gaoshou in the making.
Also it was adorable to see little Su Mucheng. MUST PROTECC!!

I was really happy to have had so much more development on the original protagonists. I liked Ye Qiu in the anime but beyond that I didn't need to know any of the background details about him. This prequel was the icing on the cake.

I guess we got the info we needed on Ye Qiu.

Love it! The story before the main.
Can't believe Muncheng was that small.

Damn, the summit was really bright, Muqiu must be really smiling on his grave.

The last battle between ye and Royal style's Lu Liang was really epic, Absent sun really did his best to push him through. It's great Ye never gave up on Absent sun, when everyone wanted to discard him. The battle spirit form he managed to pull was super fire, I wish he used it in the main series, but now I understand why they called him God ye after this.

I was touched when Ye and his team's plan failed, despair started to sunk in on them, particularly him when he thought how things Would've been if Muqiu had came back alive with his ID card. It was the first time seeing him show emotions at that time, it must've been a true dire moment for him especially since he was captain and everyone looked to him. But Mucheng brought it back when she did that loud cheer of motivation, that was cute and touching at the same time. Speaking of her, I didn't know she was this younger to Ye.

Also I liked how Ye's brother protected his identity when he took the mask off. Merciless magic and Bleak sky's date ;-)

This was a great backstory. The animation changed too, and it was amazing, it kinda reminded me of the "fate series" but better. The plot was deep and meaningful for a game movie. When I went into this I never expected much from it, but I was mind blown after watching it. The action was super epic, those shots made me wish it was a Japanese anime.

Can't wait for the next season's series.

8/10.

This was a great prequel.

Little Su Mucheng is so cute. I didn't expect her to be so young tbh. Though I do feel bad for her since her brother died.

The last match was epic.

The after credit scenes were hilarious.

7/10.

The overall animation quality is drastically improved here compared to the previous entries, though the action scenes may arguably be worse than Tebie Pian's if you're not a fan of the new style (reminiscent of cell shading).

While released after those, being a prequel this fills in several question marks which hurt the first season's characterizations. So I'd recommend watching it first if you have no previous experience with the franchise.

All in all, this movie was great and the animation was also top-notch. Though it is hard to believe Su Mucheng and Ye Xiu was only 3 years apart looking at how young she was drawn in this, but who really cares. Hopefully season 2 wouldn't be delay any longer.

Looking back at the All-Star Tournament arc, the animation quality increase quite a lot. The new characters design looks nicer too. Well it is a movie so its definitely will be better. Just hoping that S2 wouldn't be release soon, I want to see the future scenes in the novel animated.

Very good movie, I thought of finding pure comedy but I wasn't expecting so much drama, 9/10. (I don't think the second season can beat the movie).

I hop that whoever animated the movie can animate season two of the show. The animation was so clean and breathtaking. Even background characters and other aspects were clean. I fell the anime only animated main characters and fights cleanly and neglected everything else e

Waited so long to watch this and damn it was worth the wait.

It was really great to see the events before the anime's story. Got to know about Ye Qiu in the past. We finally know why he hides his identity lol. The action scenes were really great. The final fight between One Autumn Leaf and Peaceful Hermit was amazing.

Su Muqiu was a great guy, he didn't have much screentime and died so soon but he left a good impression. Also Loli Mucheng was so cute.

Great movie overall, looking forward to season 2.

I honestly signed up to put something on this forum is it weird for me to think that Ye Xiu and Su Muqiu may have been more then best friends I know at one point somebody said that they were "lovers" then paused "of glory" it just seems like they may have been more then friends just stuff they did before and after Su Muqiu died or this could just be anime logic.

You could, but know that there's some continuity differences between them... and the animation here is better/different than it is there.

Watching this first though will explain a number of things that are unexplained there, and as a result may enhance the impact of a couple scenes.

Wow, enjoyed the movie but the rules of the game were confusing, should have explained it more clearly. Aside from that, the art style looks great, the animation is good except for here and there and the last fight was epic.

P.S: Little Mucheng is so cute. Always wondered how Ye Qiu and Mucheng knew each other, they really are family.

Thats how pro gaming world is sadly. Also Su Mucheng and Ye Qiu's age difference is only 3 years.

It was great. I loved it.
Seeing a smaller, cuter and adorable Su MuCheng. Also man did I cry when she cried. Those were some great scenes.

The movie was shorter than I would have liked, Would definately have wanted to see more of Muqiu, it was a shame we didn't get to see more of him. But overall the pacing was expected. Again shame we couldn't have seen more of the professional season. But what we got was good.

Also very noticeable animation quality difference when McDonalds product placement was involved in season 1, OVA and Movie compared to season 2.

Also enjoyed the end credit extras, The Marriage proposal skipping the dating, the physical training, and finally a Ye Qiu that cooked and a Chibi SuMucheng that got drunk on food cooked with alcohol. That was adorable.

Action and music was great, that final fight with royal wind was brilliant.
Shame season 2 wasn't as powerful in this sense, but I assume this has something to do with budget since McDonalds was no longer present in the second season.

Obvious nitpicking, but when Su Muqiu was buried for example they visited in the same clothes they wore when they first met, Would have preferred if they were more in formal attire, But other than that. The scene was still strong and powerful, and seeing Mucheng like that really was heart breaking.

It was pretty good but I thought S1 was better. Does anyone have a translation of the clips shown in the credits and the scene after it?

Anyway, 7/10 it was fun and what I like about the anime is how realistic it depicts the esports scene.

Well, this was heartbreaking, definitely not what I expected coming into it. It does shed much better light in Ye Xiu's motivations as well as Mu Cheng's, but with this sort of strong backstories I always find myself thinking - is the future story ever going to live up to the bar set by it? It's pretty much the reason I dropped stuff like Sket Dance in the past.

I'm glad that I watched the movie today.
Enjoyed it much. Fights were pretty good, OST was top tier a few times.
The ''tragic death'' was kinda you know, it could have been better but it still hit me.
Last fight was just godly imo.

Dat fight.
Ye Qiu in the flesh.
Su Muqiu.
OMG!!!! That's my waifu Mucheng! Kawaii!!!!! So Su is her brother.
McDonald's.
Ye doesn't want to be in public due to his family.
Someone stole Tao's boss.
Oh snap! They're playing the OVA OP theme instrumental.
Dat boss.
Mucheng.

And that was the end... or should I say beginning. Great movie. My waifu Mucheng was so cute. They had me 2nd guessing her age because they made her so small and cute. But I'm not complaining. Her design is perfection. Older and younger. I'm glad Su Muqiu wasn't her dead boyfriend because I was shipping her with Ye. I'm glad they played the OP theme instrumental of the All Star specials. That song is amazing.

That commentary was nearly the whole movie XD

And yeah the theme songs from the OVA both OP and ED are cool and catchy.

Going into this expecting a nice, enjoyable and joyous prequel story of how Excellent Era is developed along with Ye Xiu and his former original members. But hooo boy is it more than just that...

Since I never read any of the original materials, I never knew that Su Mucheng had an older brother, one who originally made the account now known as [Lord Grim], but more importantly, Ye Xiu's best friend. The moment that Su Muqiu was introduced as Su Mucheng's older brother who so enthusiastically desire the first spot victory in the professional Glory tournament, I knew something bad is gonna happen, and it did...
Honestly to introduce a new character, his ambition, relationships with other characters and finally having him die in the most unfortunate way possible are all risky moves for a movie, but it's all directed so well despite this all being done under 30 minutes into the movie, his death hits me right in the feels, for him who has such a bright future just waiting for him, a lovely little sister, and a caring best friend, only for his life to be taken out in a freak accident is so unfair man, what a tragedy, made me teared up seeing all this happen. Perhaps I just have a soft spot for deaths that greatly affects their relatives, specifically their siblings or significant others, but it's a sorrowful death nevertheless...

Su Muqiu's death is not just any death, because, in a way, it alters my perception of Ye Xiu and Su Mucheng.
Su Muqiu's ambition to win and his abrupt departure from this world gave Ye Xiu's determination to win so much more meaning than to simply just win and be the number one, it's also to fulfil his best friend's dream. On the other hand, for the longest of time, I've always seen Ye Xiu's and Su Mucheng's relationship as one that is affectionate and loving, but not in a romantic way, well now I know why. Ye Xiu and Su Mucheng, although not blood related, are pretty much siblings, especially after Su Muqiu's death, Ye Xiu took on the role of being Su Mucheng's older brother and that's really sweet of him.

Needless to say, the last final fight was epic. With all 6 members of Excellent Era all sacrificing their lives to contribute to the ultimate battle between the captains, culminating with One Autumn Leaf winning. It's all dramatic and awesome. It's a shame how he still chose to shy away from the spotlight because of his parents, but at least, his legacy lives on.

In conclusion, this movie was several degrees better than what I expected it to be. The emotional aspect of the movie is what made the experience that much more memorable. Honestly, this movie singlehandedly adds more character to Ye Xiu and Su Mucheng. Their background is one of a painful separation from Su Muqiu, but it's also due to him that these two are able to achieve what they have done up to now.

i just can't get into this. maybe i would've preferred a few specials instead of a movie? idk, but something about it just doesn't feel right while i'm watching. like there's too much unnecessary "filler" in a movie that wasn't in the episodes. i'm finding myself fast forwarding through every scene until it gets to a part that matters...

i wondered who that 3rd person was in the photo of himself and mucheng back during the first season. i think we found out who it was in the specials? i forget, to be honest. probably should've realized he died, because that's what anime do, but i never thought about it until the movie started when i started getting that "vibe". and then once they mentioned that typhoon i even thought, "that's how he dies? in a typhoon?" honestly, i wouldn't have cared about his death too much if not for his sister. that just made me feel really bad for her

idk why he didn't want to show his face and why his family was against gaming ("they want you to be successful" mmk). (esports = gaming. idk why they're trying to distinguish the two.) and i don't think i will know why because i don't think i'm going to finish this movie

just rate it a 6/10 and put it on hold indefinitely or something

these two guys are working all night at a net cafe. mucheng looks like she's maybe 10. how old do you have to be to hold a job in china? how old do you have to be to work overnight like that? i would think at least 16 or 18, no? but they don't seem to be in school anymore, so they might be older than 18? admittedly, idk know the age and levels of schooling in china. it makes sense that mucheng is younger than ye qiu, since he's "25 years old" in season 1 and considered "old". and mucheng is still under contract and apparently not considered old. but didn't they also say ye qiu had been playing for a decade? so he became a pro at 15? there are several things here that just don't make sense to me
