We are already in the Holocene extinction event. We just can't comprehend it like the five extinction events before it because we did not exist then, and humanity is a young species in terms of the billions of years the planet has existed. Not to mention we ourselves are causing a lot of it this time around.

Majority of extinction is due to human actions. (about 30 to 40%)

As Human growth increase, lesser Species growth decrease.

And as you know, there's nothing to kill humans like we kill other species with ease. So Human growth will never stop.

It's survival of the fittest. Species that don't make it are species that weren't fit enough.

Whatever makes you feel better

99.9% of species that have ever existed have already gone extinct. And that is before Humans. It's just the circle of life. There were many species before us, and there will be many more after us.

If it makes you feel better, even today we discover thousands of new species each year, and scientists believe the majority of life on earth has yet to be discovered.
A big part of the reason for the increase in numbers of species near extinction, is because of the new species we discover. A lot of the species we discover are so rare or remote, and we immediately put them on the endangered list. They would've already been on the endangered list back when the original Tokyo Mew Mew aired if we had known they existed.
Not all of the increase is because life has gotten worse.

Man that really fucking stings. I forgot that but never watched the original. Just the crappy 4kids version.
I haven't updated in years but now I have changed that. I'll be free soon.

Doesn't that mean, humanity should commit mass suicide and disappear before that number increases further.

That's the most depressing thing about the show; in 20 years, climate change and habitat destruction have only gotten worse, despite us knowing about it and having the means to ameliorate the situation.

It is interesting how Ichigo is facing the Iriomote wildcat in the new scene's screencap.
