I took the anime and then LN route and it made it fun to read LN and gave me a lot of appreciation for the subtle foresight shown.

i think its better to watch anime first, so u could make it as a reference while reading the light novel.and also you could skip the vol 1-3 if you already watch cour 1&2

Like the previous guy mentioned, watch the anime then start from Volume 4.

Although most LN has terrible adaptations (Toaru Majutsu No Index, Seirei Gensouki, etc), 86 has a good adaptation. You don’t need to read volume 1-3 again.

Anime is pretty faithful to the Light novel so watch anime first and read LN for more details

The first season adapts the vol 1,2,3.

The anime adaptation is great, really. It faithfully adapts the LN. But because of the difficulties related to the format of the anime, some details are forgotten.

I suggest you to watch the anime first, which transmit a more emotions than the LN, and then, you can read the Vol 1, 2, and 3.

If you don’t have time to read, you at the limit can skip the vol 1. But the vol 2 and 3 contain more important elements that we miss in the second cour of the anime, and the rest of the story is harder to follow without knowing these details.

I would say anime first. As there is some details at the end of vol 1 will make the experience reading the latter two volume gets a little bit spoiled
And it’s pretty fun reading after finishing anime as there are new things you pick up once you read after watching the anime

Honestly I would say LN first, the surprise that awaits you at the end of vol. 1 really got me and if you watch the anime first that part wouldn’t happen until much later on, and doesn’t even carry the same weight because of it how it is presented.

But the anime is still pretty good and the part I’m talking about was still pretty good in the anime.

For 86, go to Official Yen Press to buy it or you can pirate it.

I think a 86 volume costs about $8?
