This episode is kinda depressing...another senseless death just like that. Goes to show how dangerous society is in their city.

I doubt they can ever fix their society.

So we rewind time a little back to before all that happened.

Koki and Asumi's mother Kanae was at the forefront of developing the 24th Ward a.k.a Shantytown with AI technology 20 years ago in 1999. Together with Sakiko Tsuzuragawa when she was just a growing teenager, their father Gori is still the same mayor thinking for the betterment of the ward, and Kanae's partner Kuchikiri is the real 0th that came from the past (that conversed with Ran last episode).

Kanae being a school teacher and Sakiko carrying the baton of her research, and this Mr. 24 hero dude Wataru Chikuwa playing the hero to having a job in SARG. Of course, not forgetting the RGB trio and Asumi when things went awry with a plain daylight robbery that cost Kanae's life and forced her husband Gori to request Sakiko to finish what Kanae started.

Problem is, at the mention of Cornucopia, the imperfect system is a rushed job, and since the system requires a human brain, the Takara Elementary School case took Asumi's life, and rather than letting her life be, Gori shook the hand of the Devil to use her brain to preserve as the 24th Ward's Guardian Angel, no wonder that both the husband and the trustful aide has strayed away to sin.

It's obvious that Asumi needs saving, but how will the RGB trio take this forward?

Honestly, this was a lot to take in, and as simple as the story plot structure is like, it just felt like convenience after convenience serving unto itself, presented as opportunities for humanity to look bad.

Not sure if accumulating all the past and then show it in one full episode is the right thing.

Wow, this was an unexpectedly great episode. I think they really wove the back story well, and now we can see they were setting everything up for this with the past 8 episodes. I had definitely written this off as kind of a generic shounen, but I think this episode bumped it up from a 6 to a 7 for me, at least for now. Excited to see where this goes in the last three eps!

I think I enjoyed this episode? Idk it felt kind of disjointed but I also really liked how you saw all the background stuff. We finally know what led up to where we are now. Also surprisingly sad. I never liked Goji before now and this episode made me feel really bad for him and now I kinda get why he's doing what he's doing. He's just so sad

Honestly...this feels like the worst-directed episode of the series so far. Barring the fact that there was a LOT of backstory placed in 24 minutes and the sequence of events seemed bizarrely contrived, it all comes across as disjointed or that the parts are still somewhat incomplete. I suppose I can look past certain things like Kuchikiri's passenger seat airbag not going off, but Kanae deciding to go off on her own to follow a sketchy person? 0th basically deciding in a "divine revelation" that he should make art now (and the whole religious rhetoric coming back around with Goji in the church at the end)? That whole confrontation between Goji and 0th in the board meeting? Goji deciding that Asumi should be the vessel for KANAE because of something she said about protecting the old elementary school?

I guess my problem with this series as a whole is that it has got a lot of fascinating ideas, but the details of how they develop and the plot are not put together coherently enough. I'm not trying to be negative on purpose, but this series sadly wasn't able to turn my opinion about it around :(

ooo good some stuff from the past and context. took me a minute to realize who everyone was but im glad we've got some context as to why things are like that in the present. i feel satisfied with this episode but im wondering if making it span 2 eps would have been better - just bc it felt like some things were going a bit too fast

Pretty damn good episode that helped the rest of the story. Now we understand everything better and see the real motivations behind the plot. This show gets over hated.

FUUUCK. What an episode. Best one till now. This one was so intense I didn't even realise when the episode finished.

We found out so much about the past of our characters. I was watching with my mouth wide-open multiple times.

We saw a little bit of Kanae and her death was..just sad, I mean she was just trying to help that person and her kindness got her killed. I hope that person got arrested or something. Seeing Gori breakdown after hearing about Kanae's death was hard to watch. We can see how her death changed him, earlier he used to look more cheerful and always had a gentle expression on but in present he just looks cold and scary lmao.

We also saw the origin of 0th and Sakiko Tsuzuragawa. We also found out that it was 0th who created Carneadus and I think Tsuzuragawa got idea about that from 0th only as we saw in the last episode. Seems like they both are still in touch in present.

So they always needed a human brain for KANAE system to work, it's quite absurd that they weren't able to get access to any human brain, I mean they are so rich, they can just get hands on the body of any dead person and use their brain. Why on earth would they use the brain of their own daughter?

It would have been better to let Asumi rest as we saw in this episode that Asumi is suffering because she is able to see the future to some extent and is forced to make a decision as to which future should happen but she's unable to choose and passes the decision making to the only people she trusts the most- RGB and that's how they are having the visions and getting phone calls from Asumi.

Seeing how 0th is connected with all this I think he knows that KANAE system has Asumi's brain in it, in last episode he said he wanted to destroy the KANAE system.

I would like to believe that Asumi is alive in the KANAE system and maybe there is some way to bring her back, like she will remain in a machine or something but will be able to talk with others. This seems plausible too given what we saw in the episode, she's at least conscious and has her memories intact.

What a packed episode, enjoyed a lot. The developments in story were great in this episode. 5/5.

Welp, lol. It is even said in the anime that she is Koki's "imouto". Oh boy! Maybe, they are saving a plot twist reveal for a third sibling born in 2004. /sarcasm

That was... weirdly uninformative. There's a lot that still wants to be explained in this series, and this wasn't any of that. I don't feel differently about any of the featured characters and think we already generally understood their motivations. I suppose the way Wataru fits in is new, but he was there with all the important people being a useless ass isn't really changing the story for me.

Ok, that was pretty good. Simple backstory, but it's good enough to give solid foundations to character motivations. Not that there was any big new information presented, but they connected characters in a simple but effective manner. The insight on the conflicting perspectives between 0th, who suffered the direct consequences of the KANAE system's flaws, and Gori/Tsuzuragawa, the former faced with the consuming thought of possibly avoiding his wife's death and the latter having experienced the good part of the system when she was saved by its power of prediction and judgement.

I already made peace with the fact that the technology part will probably not be explained other than "it's military technology bro." We just ought to accept that the KANAE system requires a human brain and is capable of doing supernatural things, and cipher is some top notch technology that works similarly to the Drug D but somehow alters the strength and resistance of your bones and muscles (as we've seen with Shuuta), which makes me wonder how the resolution to the final conflict with Asumi will come about.

Given the hospital scene, in theory, she is not supposed to survive outside the machine, but I also doubt our protagonists will accept her inhumane role as the "battery" for this flawed system. The last episode suggested that Carneades was created by Tsuzuragawa to pass as a "bug" in order to fool Gori that the system had been hacked. The "bug", however, was explained to be the interference of Asumi's conscience. By the looks of it, Asumi won't have a happy ending.

It just still bothers me that Ran hacked into the KANAE system to steal data for 0th to hack into the KANAE system again. Why the 2-step task? He could have explained things earlier and agreed a plan with Ran for him to do the full job with his improved brain skills.

Oh, well. We still have 3 episodes for the Asumi reveal (to Ran and Shuuta) and some sort of closure for the KANAE system. I'll be looking forward to it.
