| I don't think it has explain anywhere so far, I am not sure if there is LN or WebN tho. But from the manga, we can know that it is some kind of spirit, soul, or whatever that grant the user power through certain item(?) and contract between them. Although it is unsure what is the condition since MC is required to go through experiment in his first life(but not second life) whiles Kelkeiro just need the item to meet Niko. And it seems to be able to transcend time and space as shown Farenna is able to remember the first life of John. |

Hmmm what about the Wolf like spirit named Rubo who was connected with Suraru who also appear in chapter 15. The only thing we know is the pendant thing called Blood* is something that calls them to you like honey is for bees/bears and because the soul is compatible with them and they enjoy it like narcotics so until they explain who or what they are we may never know. |
