Lupin the Third is pretty great. For newcomers (like me) it's a franchise that's shockingly easy to get invested in... if you know where to start.
Parts 4 and 5 are an amazing place for newcomers, because they provide both the long-form narratives that viewers like me prefer, as well as the fun episodic adventures that the Lupin III tv series was known for in the 70s and 80s... however, I'm definitely noticing a drop in the quality of animation from part 5 to 6... and in the overall quality of storytelling, at least for Part 6's first season.

Are potential new fans finding it hard to get into the franchise, assuming that they have to start with Part 1 (which I did, and I ended up dropping the series for a while because I didn't like Part 2. I ended up skipping ahead to Part 4 and loving that series).

My question is, to anyone who might now more about these kind of things: Is Lupin still burning?

More specifically, does the franchise have a future on TV (...or on streaming)? Are more new fans getting into the series, or is the current viewership predominantly made up of older fans? Could Lupin continue into his 7th, 8th or even 9th part? Or could Part 6 be the last we see of Lupin, for a while at least...?

If there’s one thing about Lupin, is that the franchise is a fucking cult. Shit like Lupin and Detective Conan have built such an “empire” that even if they completely fall off grace, they’ll still get new content. Idk how well it does in numbers and I don’t think they ever did that well. But the franchise itself is constantly making new content. To put it into prespective, there are many authors, directors, producers and even VAs that have expressed that they’d like to work on a Lupin III story. Many of the Lupin parts, ovas, movie and specials are done by different people. That shows how loved Lupin is in the anime world.

As for, is the Lupin still burning? Yes it pretty much is. Lupin keeps going because the audience wants it to keep going. That was pretty much said in part 5. Keep in mind that Lupin is more popular in Japan than in the west though.
