So I recently finished Odd Taxi, and absolutely loved it. It's tied with Non Non Biyori Nonstop for my AOTY so far, and for non-sequels nothing else comes close. I'm only halfway through the year but I'll be amazed if those two don't stay at the top for me.
Odd Taxi's director, screenwriter and one of the studios involved (P.I.C.S.) have never made any substantial anime before. The only substantial anything that any of them have done before is this manga, with 120 users but two 10/10 reviews. I just read the first volume of eight and I can totally see where they're coming from. If you enjoyed the dialogue in Odd Taxi as much as I did, here's something that seems to be entirely made up of those witty exchanges about literally anything.
Since Odd Taxi is only getting more and more popular, I expect this to get a boost in popularity, so here's the second thread ever made for this manga. During the first few episodes I thought Odd Taxi was going to be a cult classic, and maybe it will be, maybe it'll be popular enough to just be a classic, but this manga could potentially be even more of one.

I read this manga because I felt like Odd Taxi was different because of different writing. I think Odd Taxi is a better (mostly more polished/mature/commercial/successful) product than SetoUtsumi. I think most people who consume both would agree with me to some extent.

However.

SU confirms that OT is Konomoto's show. Everything that makes OT special is in his manga.

KK hype train needs to be max capacity going forward. I'm consuming anything this guy makes until either the dialogue or plot-undercurrent-twist tricks he's got runs dry. His writing talent/sense is bleeding through both constantly. I don't think it'll happen soon.

We need to pay this guy attention, and hope that Japan cares and/or feels the same. I'm actually optimistic. Somebody important read SU and thought that giving him OT was a good decision.

I am glad I looked for Kazuya Konomoto's other works after watching OddTaxi. SetoUtsumi is definitely a hidden gem. It is brilliant how he wrote a compelling story about two high schooler just passing time chatting on a riverside in every single chapter and yet managed to bring out all sorts of emotions.
