Of all these characters, including More Blood, who would you say are the most overrated, underrated and correctly rated characters and why?
This will largely be based on the visual novels, aswell as the anime and the manga. If you've seen any of the visual novels. this will give you much better thought.
For me:
Overrated:
Shu - I watched all of his routes from Haunted Dark Bridal all the way up to Lost Eden. He has his moments but overall, he is just not an interesting character at all. He literally has two emotions which are bored and crafty. The only thing I liked about him was that his backstory in the VN explained that he had a phobia of fire because of his past. (Spoilers will not be revealed) Other than that, I find him to be the most overrated by far.
Kanato - What on earth do people see in him? Seriously? This guy is a freaking lunatic! Like Shu, he is very limited to what emotions he has and what personality he has. He is very bipolar and unpredictable. You don't know how he would react to any certain situation. Whilst some would find this more exciting because of the dark tension, I personally find it very annoying and cringeworthy. He's the only character in DL that does not change. So going through all of his routes just seems like a complete waste of time.
Laito - He experiences better development than Shu and Kanato, but he's a huge pervert and very disgusting. He only gets better in Lost Eden but HDB and More Blood, he is at his absolute worst. Just pure fanservice. Nothing else. Him and Yui do not click at all.
Correctly Rated:
Ayato - He's the main male lead after all, so he is bound to get a lot of development. I find he has the best chemistry with Yui, after Subaru and Ruki. He starts off as a douchebag but mellows down dramatically as the series goes on. You can tell he definitely has a soft spot for Yui. My favourite route of his was Vandead Carnival. He was so sweet to Yui throughout the entire story.
Subaru - My favourite character in all of Diabolik Lovers. I feel like he does deserve a bit more love though. Him and Yui make the best couple, no doubt. Whilst he did have his bad moments, there was not a single time where I outright despised him or thought of him as the most deplorable character (I'm looking at you Kanato). I loved all of his character routes. He is the most developed character, by far. He goes from being as sadistic to changing his ways and forming into a much better person.
Reiji - Honestly, I don't like Reiji at all but the praise he gets does always stand middle ground. He does have his nice moments like in Vandead Carnival but overall, he's an arse aswell most of the time. Not as bad as Laito and certainly not as bad as Kanato, but he does have many scenes where I just wish we wouldn't have to go through his route.
Kou - One of my favourites. Also another very interesting character. I love the dynamic he has with his brothers and Yui and he seems really caring most of the time. His backstory is one of the most emotional.
Underrated:
Ruki - I will never understand why Ruki gets overlooked so often. He was fully prepared to sacrifice himself for the plan of Adam so Yui could be spared and is also the first one to give Yui consent. He also has remarkable character development. Possibly the most developed after Subaru.
Yuma - . Yuma is definitely one of the nicer characters. He deserves just as much love as Subaru, considering he is so similar to him. I love that like Subaru, he never outright hurts Yui in a sense where she literally feels extremely endangered. He also loves gardening which is a bonus! I adore his route in Lost Eden.
Asuza - Hes an adorable cinammon roll. He's by far, the nicest character. I love how sweet he is and that he wants to go along with The Plan but is reluctant to take advantage of Yui like the others did. I hated what Kanato did to him in his route in More Blood.
Those are my opinions but what are yours?
