THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
They advertised this as a sort of fictional card game in their world but this felt like a sci-fi thriller. Seems it's taking on a serious approach to the plot too with the King and characters.

The battle itself has its set of rules, summons, attack points, etc. It doesn't seem like a difficult game to learn tbh. There's probably more mechanics later down in the story but they're keeping it straightforward. Not bad actually, I'm interested to see where this goes.

The adaptation of Aniplex's brand new TCG Build Divide released alongside this show, and split-cour at that (2nd Cour @ Spring 2022).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Build_Divide

Liden Films' in-house debut director (Yuki Komada), created by Homura Kawamoto of Kakegurui fame, character designs by Shinpei Tomooka of Trinity Seven fame, this would easily be shunned by many who don't care for game adaptations.

This reminds me of 8-Bit's recent Zenonzard The Animation, with the base TCG rules and play explained between newbie player-cum-MC Teruhito Kurabe and veteran player Sakura Banka who is obsessed with him from the get-go. Kurabe might as well get started immediately, because his objective is to defeat the King with his inept knowledge about the game. Kurabe's a true master.

For a start, this premiere episode does what it does best: get the audience to know how the TCG works as it serves the basis for the numerous battles for 24 episodes, and getting the Japanese hyped if they purchase the cards to do battle with people. Liden Films's production values are quite competent, I'm very surprised and not because it's Aniplex behind this mixed-media project, which gives me a Yu-Gi-Oh kinda similar effect.

I'll give this show that: to last 24 episodes with a split-cour, and funded by Aniplex of all companies, I'm expecting Build Divide to stand out from the rest of the abominable game adaptations we've got recently.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

So... it seems like it is a card-based anime. This episode was mostly the introduction to the game and how it is played between two players. Lots of rules are involved in the game as expected from a card game and my experience with cards is still the same. LOL

Well, the visuals look good, and what's with the OST. Why is it so good? I was really into the OST of this show. It's been a long time since I have watched a show like this or should I say the last time I watched something like this was some god damn awesome Yu-Gi-Oh shit. Was going to skip it, glad that didn't. Looking forward to it.

For anyone who wants to learn more about the rules I made another thread with a YouTube link. Haven't had a chance to watch this yet but I'm excited first impressions seem positive!

I think I read that this show is airing on like 12 channels or something so they're confident in the product.

Card game tutorial in a form of an anime!
There were countless card game anime and they decide to cram all the ruling into one episode? That was boring to watch and hard to understand what is going on.

The card game is quite complex despite it just start its franchise, it's gonna be even more complext from now on.

The anime itself is quite strange, but the production quality is high, and the music is exciting.

Pretty solid first episode. As I had hoped the way the cards and rules of the game are designed allows for nice visual presentation and gameplay without a lot of the skipping/omitting majority of card game anime do nowadays. I can understand for someone with 0 experience in card games or interest it's a lot to take in at once so it can be overwhelming and a bit uninteresting. But I think they showed off the setting of the story and provided a decent hook to compensate. We know a bit about the 2 main characters and they already have goals which is important to establish their arcs. The battle itself was enjoyable too and I really do want this game to release in English. I think it's for the best this episode was mostly dedicated to tutorial and being an intro. Now with that out of the way they can really start progressing the story from episode 2 onwards. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Haven’t watched this yet but I haven’t watched any card game anime since I was a kid (Yu-Gi-Oh). Is this more action-oriented and not intended only for kids?

More or less. The card battles feel more action-y and have a YGO feel to them. The anime itself gives off an atmosphere that it's for older audiences and not really for children.

Yea the soundtrack was surprisingly good for this type of show
And I agree I’m not that into card game shows last one I watched was Yugioh and GX but this one has a interesting start, animation was solid and story along with the rules is good at the moment so we’ll see what happens

I've been starved for a good card game anime (that isn't YGO or the battle spirits Dan saga) and this one is off to such a promising start. I'm super excited to see where it'll go.

The plot seems interesting even though we don't have a whole lot of it yet, so I hope Build Divide is going to keep this momentum and really nail it.

I haven’t watched a card game besides Yugioh and Yugioh GX
But this one is pretty interesting it’s not gonna be the best anime ever or anything but coming from a Yugioh fan it’s serviceable and watchable for A TCG, the rules were easy to understand and the main character is interesting enough, plus we get a look at future villains , and the artwork for the cards was nice so we’ll see how it plays out

Haven’t watched a card game since Yugioh and Yugioh GX
But this 1st episode was interesting, the gameplay and rules were understandable, the main character seems interesting enough and the villains who were introduced makes me wanna learn more about them so at the moment it’s serviceable for a TCG anime and we’ll see what happens

I like Sakura's character design (and honestly the visuals in general) and some of the soundtracks were quite nice.

Episode mainly felt like just exposition for the cards and all but I suppose it's needed. With the score this currently has, I was expecting worse honestly and I'm interesting in seeing how things play out from here

Honestly im not a huge fan of card animes. The only card one I even enjoyed was YuGiOh but this anime really stood out. Again I do like the Idea that they have behind the show. I feel like the Mc is just gonna get backed into corners alot but pull the victory out in the end. He is good at the card game I will give him that.

For the time being Aniplex has already announced their release plans for the first year so we know it's lasting at least a year. Zenonzard lasted only 9 months so it's already going to last longer lol.

Disappointing to say the least.

Explaining the rules is something that'd help more TCG anime, but this felt less like teaching Teruto how to play the game and more like Sakura triple-tapping her Cheese Factory.

Writing is, frankly, pathetic, barely anything makes sense, and that's already with the caveat of barely getting any details on anyone or anything.

That said, it's at least marginally intriguing what's going on with the main girl, so it gets 1 remaining chance, though I'm not at all expecting a change.
Well I for one already loved Lain.

Most blatantly advert-y series I've ever seen, and some lackluster animation to be honest, but I did like the atmosphere somewhat

So could be watchable depending on how this develops, but can't really see this being anywhere near as good as SIW

I'm fairly sure this just being an inou battle without any TCG shit would be better, but they need to sell the cards I guess

So are card anime not allowed to be made? Is everything going to be a Yugioh ripoff to you? You know card games existed before Yugioh right?? If anything this is more Cardfight than Yugioh.

Just watched (still have 5 new currently airing anime to watch that's already at ep 3... lol)

Interesting episode, haven't seen many animes with tutorial episode at the start, most of them just explains as the anime goes along and assume viewers can understand them.

Also, RIP Bear Bread (T_T), at least the birds are happily eating you.

___ ___ ___

As for "card game clones" there are limitations to card games... pretty much most of them all need HP, Atk, Def, etc etc.

That's why most if not all card games pretty much all feel the same. The only unique thing they can do is character art and some mechanics.

This. It doesn't appear to be credited and Shazam was no help. I can't even figure out the lyrics beyond, "you'll say,you can say". "Inside of"? "It's idle"? The rest doesn't even sound like Japanese to me.
