| I somewhat prefer Boogiepop Phantom to the 2019 series, but both are good. However, Boogiepop Phantom isn't really an adaptation of the Boogiepop novels like the 2019 series. It takes place in-between the first two novels (or in-between episode 3 and 4 of the 2019 series). |

The original are the light novels. The first Boogiepop anime does not adapt the source material from the start, but this in a way gives it a unique mysterious and strange atmosphere that while mostly unintended is part of it's charm, which is why I would recommend watching the older Boogiepop anime first and then this new one that adapts the novel from the beginning. |

| Both are worth the time, but I prefer Phantom as it's an arthouse piece. I'd recommend watching this before Phantom as everything will make more sense once you do. |
