| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- This arc didn’t go the way I anticipated it too. I at least expected a chapter of Morita sitting with Aiga as tension built. But, this has been fast and crazy and I can’t complain. Morita, whether he has experience with life and death situations or not is darn composed and thinking on his feet. In the brief time he had, he sprinted and hid, firstly because if Aiga wasn’t an absolute psychopath he would have left and Morita would have survived. But instead, he chased after him which Morita prepared for in the coolest way ever. I thought Morita was under the bed or something and had put his jacket in the closet as a bluff. But that didn’t happen, Morita did the galaxy brain. He put his hair down, he stuffed the stabbed body into the closet, and he played dead. This is the inverse of what Aiga did! He set up a decoy, played the role of who his opponent thought was supposed to be there, and then snuck up on him! It was the kind of trick that I didn’t anticipate at all, but made total sense once it occurred. My jaw dropped!!! With a punch to the face, the second phase of this battle occurred. Aiga anticipated Morita to run but we as readers already saw that Morita prepared to fight. Like how he predicted Aiga would struggle aiming the gun, he knew Aiga would chase after him and only be experienced in killing the defenseless. He ran, and he kicked Aiga as he chased after him, the Sanji bait from Water 7! It made me laugh seeing him reenact one of my favorite jokes in One Piece. But then freaking Morita got so cool! A cut face, with his hair down, composed, fearless, courageous, manly, all while closing the door on Aiga, changing predator to prey, Aiga now potentially becoming the little baby who is scared for his life. Yeah, Morita, you’re GAR brother. That was so manly. Are we about to get a Fukumoto knife fight? Because that could be amazing. To make Morita a normal and relatable guy(self interested, a moral compass which he has but may not follow first and foremost, awkward and lacking understanding of the world around him), it definitely makes him going all badass hit way harder than if it was always like this. Come to think of it, as much as this is a fundamental principle in writing, Kaiji had a pretty similar charm to him with the dichotomy of his character. |
