I want to know what the people that didn't give it 8-10's like most thought about it. I was looking forward to this movie a lot and was sadly disappointed. I think the cliché and the girls personality kinda put me off but besides that it was just kind of... eh. Don't know how else to explain it. |

This story is undoubtedly cliche, but I think that's the point, it's meant to be so, but now a days anime movies focus more on sad endings or open endings, since the success of Your Name, so watching an anime movie with an actual happy ending honestly felt refreshing to me, I gave it a 9,I was contemplating between an 8 and 9 , I can understand if the "cliche" puts people off but for me that's what draws me in more. |

Well yeah seeing it high rating i was also expecting much from from it but i also feel somewhat betrayed. Animation and music was top-class no doubt. But story was predictable and nothing new and character were pretty bland. Well for a one time watch it is a good movie. Its a 7.5/10 for me. |

Well for me I was not expecting for the guy to get fucked over so at least there was that. I thought it would be the usual generic "guy saves her from her problem" and that was it. And he didn't jump in front of the car and push her aside to save her life cliché we have seen a million times which I fucking hate. It was unexpected/interesting to see that they all treated her normally and never mentioned her disability which I thought was cool. But I can't say much after that. |

yeaa very very cliche. him getting injured instead of her was ehhh but i really really hated the fact that what got her up again was a love rival, that pissed me off sm lol. her grandma died, she gave up on her dreams, her crush got hurt because of her, she's depressed as fuck and what made her get her shit together was a love rival????? |

Most people would just call it generic, which it is no doubt about that. I personally loved watching it even tho it was cliche and didn’t offer anything new, it was fun. |

I give it a 7 but 7 is not a bad score though. The thing for me is that it's a bit short. They tried adapting a whole novel in just 90 minutes so of course something got cut. The story itself is really good but there's some points where it feels like it doesn't hit as hard as it possibly could (such as when her grandma died and when Mai suddenly snap at Josee) and if only it was 30 minutes longer, I believe they could build it up a bit better. Also, the visual is pretty but imo, Disappearance (a movie from 2010) still looks a bit better than this, which saying something |

I posted this in the discussion thread but I'll throw it here because I gave it a 7. Probably my biggest problem was going from drama, to kinda over the top melodrama in the 2nd half. I mean you really could of wrote that scene up before even seeing that movie. What's the conflict 2/3 through the movie going to be? She has wheel chair trouble and he gets hit by a car. It's so cliché that it's almost charming, like they felt they were obligated to do something like that to make the drama gods happy. It seemed like they almost made the guy too flawless so where would the struggle and conflict come from otherwise the movie would almost be gross and turn just into "guy savior" who saves "poor girl". So they give him a horrible injury where he could end up not being able to walk and I guess his life was so solo focused that him not being able to dive makes him basically lifeless. I wish the second half drama was toned down a bit, made more simple and personally focused between the two leads. Also, and I feel I never think this, but I wish the movie was a bit longer, maybe 20-30 minutes just focused on the two main characters relationship and them being together. We don't get a lot of truly great relationship moments between them and their situation, doesn't seemed forced, but is just kinda... there. It's not really a build up or evolution it's goes from step 1 to step 5. To go along with the short run time, the side characters just being there to move the plot along should be expected but for some reason it was so obvious. Oh and I've been done with movies having leads fall in love, but have to be apart for extended periods of time, followed by times skips. I hate that crap more than anything in romance anime. Stop doing time skips, stop having characters finally realize they love each other and want to be together only to have them be apart, but passing it off as a good thing, but they are doing their own things. That alone is at least minus 1 point on any score for me. |

This movie is an easy 7. No matter who watches it they will enjoy this. People who give below 7 either hate the genre itself or they overexpected so much from this movie. Come on man who can hate this movie which is made by bones, wit studio and ufotable together{ I watched the credits and their name was seen and I was blown away }. |

I have just finished watching it. In short, the story is very generic and somewhat predictable, especially the accident and injury part. It definitely feels rushed and the characters are not fleshed out, especially the female lead's. I think that the relationship between the two leads was forced. I didn't like how the MC is portrayed as the selfless guy who'd do anything for the gloomy girl that hates everyone and everything, but still be able to keep up with her BS. It's not in the least bit realistic. I also think that some aspects could have received more focus, like how despite her disability, the girl can still rely on herself, find a job and go about her life, and have a social life. I also don't understand the confession of Mai?! Was she happy he got injured and isn't leaving for Mexico? Was she happy he didn't die? Like that whole scene was very confusing. The ending was melodramatic. While I usually don't have issues with that, in this movie it feels like there was no morale or takeaway. Prince charming has an injury that supposedly can't be fully healed, but he runs to the girl he loves and saves her for the second time at the same place, by pure coincidence. All in all, I think it was poor to mediocre storytelling. |

Average storytelling or forced romance. The live action is better than the anime. Welp, I gave it 10/10 for the effort. |

It was definitely very cliche, which isn't terrible outright but unfortunately, this series chose to take a lot of the worse cliches Plus it's yet another case where the love rival is a much better fit for the MC than the actual love interest lmao. Honestly reminds me a lot of Toradora what with how the FL just abuses the ML constantly and he doesn't really mind it all that much, and also how the more caring love interest gets shunned away lol. Never really got the appeal of those types of characters but oh well to each their own To give its credit it for sure definitely has some of the best cinematography, and there were some cliches that were well executed (like Josee's redemption part) but overall I'm actually quite surprised it has as high of a score as it does. The part where he got into the accident was actually a surprise direction ngl |

the main girl's attitude was already annoying at the beginning but obviously, as characters that start off this way, they eventually get developed and we understand them more. I really loved everything and it was a 9 for me, but the thing at the end made it an 8. Like she already sabotaged his chances for his dreams by running off recklessly and getting him into an accident, she feels guilty about it, and then he gets off the hospital just for her to go running off recklessly AGAIN!? Other than her attitude at the beginning and that part at the end i mentioned, everything in the movie was on point and was great. i thoroughly enjoyed it! -edit: oh and also the parts where everytime they argue he just takes 200 years processing what she said and blankly staring into space while allowing a disabled girl drive off alone in the middle of the rain or some bullcrap. like dude atleast hold her wheel chair. werent you hired to do just that? |

People are saying the cliche part turned them off but it isn't that for me, it's the fact that it didn't add anything to the cliche. The characters were also really annoying, and the way it portrayed disability felt more like a way to move the plot rather than genuine recognition. |

i like this movie, but IMO it could be better if they put the story a little bit more clearer from the FMC POV, abt her past and how she end up at wheel chair ^^ |

I loved the movie espcially on the jossee character development however I felt that half of the movie it felt rushed especially on the development of feelings between them. I wish I can see more character development between the two main characters. It felt like it 2 points ahead but left out the middle part of the story. |

personally found it kind of ableist :/ also josee was annoying as hell (why are you threatening to lie and say someone groped you !! why do tsunderes do this ??) until their roles swapped, and suddenly tsuneo was the annoying one. i found it incredibly irritating that when he got into an accident which POSSIBLY could have left him unable to dive (which, from the after credits scene, doesn't seem to be the case), he took it out on everyone around him including the girl who's been this way her whole goddamn life. insensitive much??? i admit specific parts were cute, + the animation and soundtrack were beautiful but .. the plot and characters were super lackluster. (also the love rival whose name i cant remember SUCKED 100%. and was super ableist. way to go, tell a disabled girl that the guy she likes pities her because you "deserve him more". christ, could we get some decent female rep in anime?? ever?) |

So... I gave it 6 stars. The story wasn't actually that good. I was expecting more from it. Story was flat and boring. I could feel anything in these sad moments. The main character, Josee, was too annoying. She is like above 20years old and she acts like she's a child. She was supposed to be tsundere, didn't she? As I wrote before, the story was boring. That's all. The film wasn't bad, but I can't tell it was good neither. |

Just curious but what romance movie do you think does a relationship properly with great buildup and provides a lot of great relationship moments. I feel like every romance anime has this issue. Kimi no na wa and Weathering with you are huge examples that relied heavily on montages. |

Kimi no na wa and Weathering with you are huge examples that relied heavily on montages. Hmmm... that's hard to say. I'm probably in line with you on that. Honest answer is I might of never seen one that perfectly fits that description. I haven't seen a ton of romance movies. I mean my favorite romance movie ever is Millennium Actress and that's a very different kind of romance since you don't really see a couple together and it doesn't end with them getting together, but the retelling of the main characters love was just amazing. I've Always Liked You is a sweet movie, but certainly nothing amazing and suffers too much from the typical, wishy washy high school attitudes. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya does have some nice moments in it, but I don't know if I'd consider that a romance first and foremost. I agree with you on Kimi No Na Wa. The moments of the two leads being together isn't quite enough. The first two Inu Yasha movies actually aren't bad for this, but it's Inu Yasha so you kinda know what you're getting going in, though they do both end nicely. And even though it's not my favorite series and I don't even remember the name of it, the Naruto movie where he finally admits he loves Hinata kinda works for this.... Maybe my best example might be the TV show from earlier this year Horimiya. It's just nearly 50% of the show doesn't focus on the main leads. |

They always have some kind of flaw that takes away from the romance like not having a kiss scene for example or lacking character interactions but I think Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi has the least flaws for a romance movie that is why I can't help but praise it so heavily. Of course it ain't flawless but it still has the least problems for a romance movie so honestly, it has to be my favorite romance movie. |

The drama feels forced imo, but i still give it an 8/10 because it's so wholesome |

We don’t get much of an introduction on any character, story is very cliched, too many things were predictable. Art and music was great though |

way to cliché the beginning was nice but then it turned into a melodramatic mush, MC literally got his shit togheter because he heared a recap of what happened, would have been much better if he fought throuh it and his friend were mostly annoying. feels like wasted potention since the animation music and voice acting was superb and i think those things make people overrate the story because it was nice to look at and listen too |
