"Reverse Harem" Monogatari?

When I fell in love with Monogatari I felt bad for those who would dismiss it as just another harem anime. I thought that if Monogatari were to be re-produced with all genders "reversed," the genius characterizations and story and music and animation would be appreciated by more people.

I haven't seen it yet but I just learned 5 minutes ago that Shinbou and Nishio are behind this thus it is bound to be a masterpiece. I'm assuming from the low score it's the same people who downvoted Free and Yuri on Ice. If I didn't do a double-take I would've overlooked this gem!

Without spoiling, is my guess (topic title) spot on? I'mma watch all six episodes and find out for myself but I need to vent this initial excitement.

Well, I found it terribly boring, so you might be onto something with that comparison. Monogatari was more visually interesting, though, in my opinion.

It's not as good as monogatari is, but you can still see that it's the same author and studio behind this series. It's definitely getting overlooked and I'm sure a bunch of people will pass it off as some girly anime.

All in all it's a good series so far, and i enjoy it.

It's pretty good. Visually it's the same as monogatari, maybe a bit better. The conversations are interesting.
As for the story, it's hard to tell yet. It definitely can be as good as monogatari.

Off-topic, but the words "Harem" and "Monogatari" right next to eachother lead my mind straight into the gutter. Throw in the word "Isekai" and I'd be clearing my browser history.

This anime is actually very good, the 2 main reasons why people are not watching it are the following:
1. They think it is a reverse harem.
Clearly it is not, feet from the first episode make it clear that 'love' is not something that will be covered in this anime and even the title says that it is about detectives.
2. There are a lot of anime this season and I suppose you are watching the mainstream ones (I don't blame you for that).
Reasons to see it.
1. The script is from Nisio Isio, the quality standard will be very good clearly.
2. The direction is in charge of Akiyuki Shinbou.
3. The animator is Shaft.
4. Clearly the OST and all the technical aspects are on another level, the best of the season.
5. The narrative like Monogatari is very good, not as good, but it still holds up.
5. The characters are very charismatic.
Anyway, for me it is a minimum 8/10, I do not know what criteria those people who give 7/10 or even 6/10 to the work will have, I will only say that they are not appreciating one of the best anime of the season that shares position with ODDTAXI, To your eternity, Fruits basket and Shadow House.
Anyway, if you don't like this anime just stop watching it, everything is fine.

monogatari is one of it's kind but this show is good but not as good. It's enjoysble

It has a lot of similarities, but bishounen feels much more laid back and more like a comedy while monogatari is pretty dark.

I don’t understand where the reverse harem thing is coming from cause it’s not. I haven’t watched the Monogatari series so I can’t compare but so far I am enjoying watching this

I might be missing your point here, but wouldn't a better comparison be made of Ouran High School Host Club?

Shinbou is one of the greatest directors in film and animation across history, and as such you can experience his sensibilities manifest in his style. The same is true for Nisio Isin, one of the greatest novelists across history.

I haven't seen Bishounen Tanteidan yet, but inferring from just the poster, the authors, and the replies, I'm feeling more confident about the Monogatari comparison but not so much about it being "reverse harem."

Monogatari is dubbed the "deconstruction" [not so much Derrida's Deconstruction but the TV Tropes definition] of harem anime, but some fans escape the fact that it still IS a harem anime by definition, just as Madoka is a deconstruction of magical girl anime and still is of the genre it deconstructs (as for Evangelion, it is a deconstruction of super robot anime but it also subverts the super robot genre definition since the evas aren't robots).

The word "Bishounen" in the title--and knowing Shinbou's sensiblities--already hint at Shinbou making use of his iconic fanservice techniques to cater to fans of pretty boys, although at this point I don't know if there's an "audience surrogate" like a female MC who gets all the boys' attention just as Monogatari has Araragi. But my guess is that, like Monogatari, Bishounen Tanteidan will have extremely charismatic pretty boy characters each with their own story and compelling personality.

Now time to watch!

its not a reverse harem 😭 the only boy thats fitting for dojima is michiru ... and like three of the boys are 3-2 years younger than her it wont work out
