Read it like a confession and present your thoughts; and your interpretations when you first watched that. Of course, there are both yuri shippers and not-into-yuri people here - both parties are welcome.
Note: Please go through the passage with patience. It's not a bait or a simple rant, so don't trigger yourselves

When I first watched episode 8, it never came to my mind that the lusciously animated and written scene was meant to hint at some romantic relationship between the two. True, that ain't the type of interaction I have seen between two girls in anime (then again, I haven't seen much); but I thought that they wanted to portray the chemistry between them in a non-orthodox manner. This seemed justified, because both of them are oddballs and eccentric in nature. Reina ain't the best at expressing her feelings to others - and the results are awkward. Kumiko kinda accepts people for what they are and Reina is someone she looks up to with respect and awe. She doesn't normally pick up on the odd behaviours of others, and goes along with it. Unless she really gets determined to "correct" that person; and by logic, she can't find the flaws in Reina, she just considers whatever this girl does is rare and is mesmerized by it.

At her age, I was also kinda impressed by one of my classmates and his eccentric, reserved attitude and talent attracted me. Of course, we shared a lot of interests and spent a significant amount of time together. After graduating high school, we had developed something more of a normal everyday friendship. Then I realized, at that younger age, many of us really don't actually think like "same sex just buddies, opposite sex it's the start of a relationship" (or the opposite in case of non-straight individuals). Maybe because our sexuality hasn't developed yet.

Then I learned about Class S relationships (look it up if you dk) and I thought I understand what KyoAni is doing.
Of course, I saw the yuribait complaints, but I thought they were just meme material, or cries of anime-only frustrated fans.

Then, a week ago, I came across this comment by Ishihara Tatsuya, the series’ director in context to DVD/BD sales:
[Source: Anime Maru]

"All it takes nowadays is for us to hint that some muff-munching is in the back of the minds of our characters and weebs will buy that shit up. The machine goes through a complex logarithm as you watch to determine how much yuribait between the show’s two main characters – Oumae Kumiko and Kousaka Reina – based on how willing you are to buy DVD/BluRays at a base level. The less likely you are to buy, the more it’ll show to trick you into thinking that any sort of romance in a high school anime can actually develop.
We found that young lesbian love is a much more powerful tool for getting people to buy DVD’s than normal love, it just took a bit of experimenting for us to figure it out,” Ishihara laughs. “Why were we so focused on a heterosexual romance in stuff like Amagi Brilliant Park? It’s not like the guys who buy our DVD’s have any chances at getting a girlfriend!”

And then, I felt like a clown. I also learned how Shuuichi's screentime was considerably decreased from source material. To be honest, it feels awkward to have Euphonium in my favorites, although the main reason is my fascination with brass/woodwind related stuff.

There are many other anime I can think of now (one of them is in my favorites) which has this "tease the viewer" mode but is too cowardly to attempt to add certain tags to the series. What do you think about this (deceiving) nature of attracting the audience?
I feel that the anime-onlies like me who were not baited at all might be the real fools for thinking too hard...

Edit: Turned out that Anime Maru is a satirical website and I feel like a different type of idiot now. However you are free to give official sources which more or less confirm that queerbaiting is involved in this anime

Woah, kinda feel attacked by Ishihara but anyways, whatever. Even I liked Hibike Euphonium and even I thought the same and interpreted their friendship as just friendship. Don't be worked up so much from Ishihara's word.

Wait but, isn't Anime Maru a satire site? Unless they do serious articles sometimes and I'm not aware, I wouldn't take that quote seriously

Yeah... I guess it is. They got me. It sounded so much like so many other insensitive comments made by male anime directors that I didn’t even question it. And with how they handled season 2, it was even more believable.

Yeah I think that is kinda scary, if you didn't mention the source I would have been way less suspicions of it

Damn, had no idea. If that's the case, got me good! So I still can breathe...

I've read a lot of Ishihara's interviews and I dare to bet my left balls he wouldn't say things like that.

Anime Maru is a satire site, did you actually think Ishihara would say something like that?

Even if he was this much of an asshole, he wouldn't say this openly because it would be bad for business, but he's not an asshole, so he wouldn't say this at all.

Feel like an idiot? You... probably should. No offense, it's just that Anime Maru played you like a piano.

None taken :D This was the first time I came across that website anyway... But nevertheless, relieved.

There's no way ishihara would seriously say such a thing.

Although it is confirmed that hibike is a yuribait and you don't need articles to prove that. Kumiko x Shuuichi relationship is canon. Also kyoani is quite infamous for queerbaiting so it shouldn't be a surprise.
