Looks like the director looks for a production company but no one is likely is to finish the project so far, but he still wants to finish the series with another 12 episodes.
Hopefully he'll be able to finish it soon.
source.

Bruh come on MAPPA NEEDS TO DO IT I think mappa would be nice or maybe bones idk both of them have animated queer shows before so maybe they would do it although that’s assuming it’s hard to find a production company because of the story representation but who knows ugh he deserves better tbh stars align is such a beautiful story

He is talking about investment / funding in term of Production Committee, not studio in terms of Production Team to animate the show.

It's done with. It's reached its natural conclusion.

if by conclusion you mean ending of the anime, it hasn't reached its conclusion at all.

It means he is looking for people to pay for the anime, and nobody wants to.

How well did hoshiai no sora sell? Does anybody know? Atleast we will get a realistic view on the chances of a second season.

It sold very poorly. I don't have the exact numbers because they didn't have them tracked. That in itself is a bad sign. I'm guessing in the low hundreds, at best.

Actually not, the story was planned to be for 24/25 episodes but the producer decided, out of the blue, to turn it into a 12 episodes, so it stopped at its half. It wasn't even close to its conclusion

should release a manga that would clarify plotholes and possibly if that blows up then another adaptation will come following the success of the manga.

I wouldn't mind some kind of an "extended edition", where they'd not only release all ~24 planned episodes, but also edit the existing ones to fix how the subplots flow etc. Well, such heavy editing would probably be an insurmountable task and I'd be fine with just getting the remaining episodes, since most of the flaws it has didn't bother me in the slightest anyway (except maybe some of the preachiness, but it didn't really feel all that intrusive to me either).

@Ivanh0571 regarding mappa, wasn't it just kill the gays (banana fish) and queerbaiting on ice?

I think 8 bit did a great job and should take it up again. Also nah Mappa is taking on too many projects to just take this one on. I really really hope that a studio comes along and realizes how dire it is for this to get another season.

That honestly sucks. Like literally so much anime gets green lit (is that the right term lol?). Even ones that are just so fucking bad. The fact that no one will bother with this one is so heartbreaking. Like they have the money why not? It’s sad that they let this happen like that.

@Dumythicpegasus
What do you mean "why not?"? Because they don't want to LOSE the money.
