I was honestly pretty surprised to see that people hate him THIS much. I know hitting people is pretty bad and not something you should do, but you see way more violent anime characters being praised all the time. Personally, I love how well-written and complex he is, but I understand that different people have different opinions, so I just wanted to hear other fans' perspectives on this guy.

I don't think he is hated in Japan or Taiwan as much.

(In the west) probably because he gets in the way of their "ships", Cherry seemed to "like" Adam in the past instead of liking Joe.

Tadashi actually likes be called a dog and the westerners don't like that because it seems like a BDSM relationship.

And they don't want bad guys to get away with everything.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. I think Cherry might have liked Adam in the past, but I doubt that he still does. I actually like Matcha Blossom (Joe x Cherry), too, haha.

About him and Tadashi, yeah, their relationship is pretty fucked up. I'd say it's abusive, but Tadashi seems to enjoy what's going on and it looks like it's his own decision to stay by Adam's side. I mean, he actually does have a mind of his own and goes against Adam's orders if he feels like he should. I'm not really sure if it's a BDSM thing, I think it has more to do with their past and Tadashi's guilt.

I see most people hating him because of the pedophilia with Langa, not the violence itself.
I never took that "Eve" thing too seriously, to the point that I really thought he had a love interest or something like that. For me Adam is just a very sequelated schizophrenic, some therapies and would be easily loved by the whole fandom

But hisoka from HxH is a pedo (gon is 10 years old). And people love him for some reason

I wouldn't call Adam a groomer. He did not force anyone to sk8 with him (not even Reki who skated with him twice)

I think he gets that much hate because of the way he treats others while Skateboarding, how he touches a minor and how he would've killed a minor just for his "Eve"

scorn other people. Although cherry is fine, he hurt him saying that you are boring during the competition. he described tadashi as a dog. The Eve thing was absolutely nonsense.

Adam's definition of 'love' was very toxic ever since he was a child so for him, love is not kind, it's abusive. And obviously, for other people that's not the case. However, Adam did show a little character development in the end so if the anime does continue, I'd be very curious to see his behaviour then. To answer your question, I think tis conflict of 'love' is why people hate him so much. Plus he's creepy (pretty similar to Hisoka from hxh) xP

Yeah, his concept of love is definitely fucked, but I can't bring myself to hate him for it. It's obvious that it's just a product of how he was abused as a child. And he's kinda creepy, and yeah, he's like Hisoka (i haven't seen HxH but it's hard to not know everything about Hisoka these days, I mean, he's literally all over Tik Tok rn), but people seem to love Hisoka. Adam – not so much.

I did interpret it as a love interest, actually, but, like, a very...psychologically complex love interest. He's obviously miserable in his everyday life and I think his aunts mentioned finding a wife for him a few times, so I don't think he would even be allowed to find actual happiness with Tadashi or any other guy (I mean, I got a real hard "gay-coded" vibe from him), so I think he was just making it up for himself by being so over-the-top it slips into the creepy category.

I feel like Tadashi & Adam maybe loved each other in the past. Like literally.

We never found out who Adam was suppose to marry in the end

Honestly I don’t hate him. Ok the his personality is bad but im sad because he was raised in such shitty family. When he was little they were teaching him that abusing is love and he didn’t know anything different. In the last episode he confessed that he didnt want to blame Tadashi for everything. Tadashi and Langa showed him the right way of living. Im sad that people hate him this much because there are a lot of people who are raised this way and that can hurt them. I dont like ADAM either but i dont hate him😀

I don't mean to start a war, but I think people are overreacting with the pedo stuff. Langa is seventeen. Of course, you should not groom seventeen-year-olds, but it's so common in anime that I think we can just blame it on cultural differences by now. I don't even really think he was sexually abusive, to be honest. He never forced anyone to do anything. But yeah, still, having sexual feelings towards seventeen-year-olds is not cool, I can agree on that.

Particularly, I think he is the most interesting character in the show.

People constantly calling him a groomer or a pedophile it's a bit of a stretch. He never forced anyone to do anything, people got so mad at him for hitting Cherry in the face with a skateboard, but he is literally known for sending people who skate with him to the hospital and everyone still wants to go against him, so I'm sure Cherry was prepared for that (and Cherry himself didn't seem too bothered about it afterwards).

And his interest in Langa has nothing to do with the fact that Langa is a minor, and it's not like Langa is 13 years old. Adam is a creep no doubt, but people throwing the word "pedophile" at him when they don't even know what that means it's already getting on my nerves.

Not liking him is fine, he is supposed to be the villain after all (and particularly, I think his doing a great job at being that), but I have seen way too many people taking his actions too seriously and behaving as if his attacking ya'll personally, and that is just insane in my opinion. I know that being politically correct about everything is trendy in the west now a days, but at the end of the day, he is just a fictional character and his actions have no consequences in real life.

And I don't know why people were so confused (shocked even) when Tadashi smiled after Adam called him a dog in the last episode. Tadashi was happy for being acknowledged/forgiven, not for being called a dog. And it was very in character for Adam to say it like that, and probably the only nice thing he did in the entire show (and it's obvious that Tadashi is as much as disturbed as Adam is, so he is probably into that shit).

I didn't want to, but I couldn't find a better way to say that lol I mentioned the political correctness because I feel like some people hate on Adam out of "guilt" (for lack of a better word), since I have seen people shaming others and telling them that liking Adam as a character is the same as justifying/agreeing with his actions and that they are sick and should find help and other similar comments like that. And maybe those people don't want to be seen as "bad" by liking a villain, but I could be very wrong

No one likes a crybaby villain. Villains like Adam and Voldemort are so cringy that you want to laugh at them. I need villains to show minimal weakness in psyche, to be self assured of themselves and their beliefs. Adam just didn't deliver and obviously, his pedo antics made him very not cool.

That's a different fandom though.

Also hisoka and Adam are very different characters in the way their pedophilic actions are treated.

Hisoka's character of being a pedophile is him searching for strong opponents to fight, there's literally nothing else there about him. The story doesn't ask people to sympathises with him or paint him in any positive light.

Most of Hisoka lovers never try to justify or act like he's not a bad guy, or things like that (I myself enjoy Hisoka's character and it's because he's just unhinged and crazy like that)

Adam's character though with an added sad story wants you to symphathise with him and forgive for his actions which aren't really nice and even though he did not force anyone to sk8 with him, too many injuries came out of it. It's like the story itself is basically saying forgive him when he has had zero redemption.

People would be fine unhinged crazy people but doesn't mean they have to forgive unhinged crazy people because of a sad past.

Kinda makes the character boring.

It's certainely normal to hate a character for their acts, attitute, logical and point of view in life generally. At this point, this is the same with our actual society: "How can we have EMPATHY for someone who did this or that? That's awful!" etc. Sadly, this doesn't work like this with everyone and I mean by "this", having empathy or understand HOW this person -succeded- to become such a bad entity when in the past, they were remembered as such a "good kid", "always to help around", "positive and joyful" ... So why? Well, most people doesn't give a shit about the past. They see our self present, the rest doesn't matter.

Okay, enough talk. In my opinion, Adam is having struggles and insecurities which guided himself into this toxic fantasy for what he never has because of his father. Fun, a normal life. Skating. He lost those things and goes insane. But does it have to mean we have to forgive him? More or less. It depends. Adam has to get his own conscious back to normal and question himself. Forgive himself, forgive everyone because of how hurt they are without knowing nothing or why he did these horrible things.

Everyone once did bad thing but if we don't take initiative, just like Adam who may stay like this, in his denial and frustration over and over.

NB > Just to be clear, he's not a pedophile. Quick explanation. Eve is metaphor, think about it. Adam is obsessed by the one who will get him "high" skating with. How to say it... This is all about Adrenaline. Adam's Costume is a Matador, a spanish emblem. Spain motto is Passion. And I think I'm done there, I hope this was hepful.

I am a bit annoyed about pedophile accusations. Langa is 17 and pedophilia is attracting to prepubescent. Their bodies literally aren't developed, that's the appeal. You look at Langa and think 'oh yeah, def a not developed child'? If it was Miya, then sure, THAT'S a child. Langa looks like Cherry who is an adult. Also I personally never thought that Adam's first priority is lust. He cares first for skating. And his sense of love is so fucked I doubt he would have do anything properly sexual to show his attraction. The one problem is how overtouchy he is outside races, personal space dangit XD. Also he is violent on races, but I don't see a problem with that, everyone knows that and race anyway, so they shouldn't be suprised. And Adam isn't the only one like that so that's really not a problem.

FR, I honestly didn't expect people would hate him this much!! And even if they hated him, I thought at least a big amount of people would love him and fangirl over him and all lol
because despite him being a pedo and violent and a psycho... I liked him😭😭
from his first stalker pedo scenes, I thought that he is such a good character to add to this anime. Yeah, his tap-dancing is cringe, but his presence was nice IMO!!
And I actually liked the resemblance to Jojo. It made his entering scenes so entertaining! The music, the outfit, the red carpet, his walk, and his poses were fun to watch and made me simp over him TBH.
Also, I could totally see why he became like this from his upbringing!! Limited freedom and oppression always create psychopaths! at least in anime.
