Considering whether to read the manga or just watch the anime. And is the anime a good adaptation overall?

If I remember correctly season 2 diverted from the manga and had an original ending. Personally, I prefer the anime than the manga, as it felt like the latter dragged for too long and just became overly-dramatic. Not to mention, Emma kept throwing herself at Will for more than one occasion. But still, it's up to you. If you have time, it's still a good romance manga.

Thanks, will take it into consideration.

Anime is faithful to manga till 5th ep of second season. Then there are some major differences.
It is shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult.

I know this is an old thread, but I'll still answer for public knowledge.
Ignore the comments saying that season 1 is faithful to the manga, it is actually "It's own spin on the story" with multiple events changed, rearranged, shortened or expanded.
Granted, the "omitted" ones are mostly short phrases that explicit more context to certain scenes, what mostly happens are scenes being re-contextualized, which change their meaning and/or feel, as well as the anime adding a lot more of them, which does something similar, as certain characters interact a lot more.
e.g. Certain scenes will feel more important on the manga since they weren't preceded or succeeded by other scenes, and some quite important and remarkable anime scenes are nowhere to be seen on the manga.

Basically, treat it as a "complementary work" "thematically".
Remember that the Japanese tend to like "gaiden" (Multiple stories on the same setting that are not cannon to each other, but that are thematically complimentary).
Also know it that, especially on the first volume, the pacing might seem very fast compared to the one on the anime.
