| Interesting, but I don't think that is the case. I'm an anime-only (haven't read the LN/WN), but I think the OVA did imply that Puck was instructed by "someone" to protect Emilia. In the beginning, we hear a mysterious voice saying "To protect her, that is your goal and the reason for your existence". That "someone" is probably the witch Satella herself, or someone related to her. My theory is that Puck was originally Satella's spirit (or some kind of subordinate). And him trying to protect Emilia is probably because she is connected to Satella. I say this because Puck seems to know a lot about Satella (in episode 18 of S1 he mentions that Satella could use up to 2000 shadow hands). |

There should be more to this in Season 2, depending on what they choose to adapt from the novel. It may revolve around a certain someone shown in the S2 trailer. Get those speculation gears grinding. :P |

| There's a lot of possibilities and tbh this one is also one of them. Puck might be Subaru from future or alternate world, who knows. |

| Alternate world Subaru I would say. There has to be a reason Subaru was even summoned to this world in the 1st place. Maybe Emilia is the reincarnation of the witch too? |

| There’s another character from E 5&6 of that fits much better. I’m guessing that Puck contains the spirit of this character intermixed with the Beast of the End. |
