The Kimetsu Matsuri Online: Anime 2nd Anniversary program announced a new television anime of Koyoharu Gotouge's supernatural action manga on Sunday. The new television anime, subtitled Yuukaku-hen (Entertainment District Arc), will air in 2021. The program also revealed a teaser visual (pictured) and the first promotional video.

Haruo Sotozaki (Tales of Zestiria the Cross) is returning to direct the new anime at animation studio ufotable. Animator Akira Matsushima (Maria-sama ga Miteru) is also returning as the character designer. The lead cast members are reprising their roles.

The Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Mugen Train) anime film opened in Japan on October 20 last year, covering the Mugen Ressha-hen (Infinity Train arc, also known as the Demon Train arc), which spans from volumes seven to eight.

The first anime season aired in 26 episodes in Spring 2019. Aniplex of America licensed the anime series and simulcast it on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu. Adult Swim's Toonami programming block premiered the show with English dub last October.

Aniplex of America released the first limited edition Blu-ray on June 30, and the first standard edition Blu-ray on September 29—in partnership with Funimation. The second limited and standard edition Blu-rays shipped on November 24 and January 19, respectively.

Gotouge received an honorable mention at the 70th Jump Treasure Newcomer Manga Awards for their Kagarigari one-shot in 2013, which became the prototype for Kimetsu no Yaiba. The latter began serializing in Weekly Shounen Jump in February 2016 and ended its four-year run on May 18. Shueisha shipped the 23rd and final volume on December 4. Kimetsu no Yaiba has a cumulative 150 million copies of its compiled volumes in circulation.

Ryouji Hirano (Bozebeats) published the two-chapter side story Tomioka Giyuu Gaiden in Weekly Shounen Jump in April 2019, and the Kyoujurou Rengoku Gaiden spin-off last October. Hirano also drew the 26-chapter 4-koma spin-off Kimetsu no Aima! in Shounen Jump+ from April to September in 2019.

Aya Yajima (Ao no Exorcist light novel) penned two novels under the Jump J Books imprint subtitled Shiawase no Hana (Flower of Happiness) and Kataha no Chou (One-Winged Butterfly) in February and October last year, respectively. Yajima published a third novel focusing on the Wind Pillar Sanemi Shinazugawa, subtitled Kaze no Michishirube (The Wind's Guidepost), on July 3.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in July 2017 and simulpublished it with the Japanese release in their new Shounen Jump platform. The 20th volume shipped on February 2, with the 21st volume planned for an April 6 release. Shueisha's Manga Plus service also simulpublished the manga in English beginning January 2019.

Kimetsu no Yaiba placed sixth in the male readers' category in the 2020 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings. The anime series was voted the best show at the 2019 Newtype Anime Awards and won Animation of the Year in the 2020 Tokyo Anime Awards' television division.

We all knew it was coming! I’m pretty certain the working for this began immediately but they were waiting for this exact timing to reveal it.

Even if it’s just going to be 1-cour, I’m sure Ufotable has plans of a sequel for 2022 so I’m not least bit disappointed right now.

Meanwhile, I still have to watch Mugen Train ;-;

Already knew about this earlier today. Hyped for the second season. Still need to watch the movie though.

Imagine this taking the #1 spot on MAL when it starts airing.

Good stuff. Another thing to look forward to this year. Though if they can get the movie on blu-ray or release internationally in theatres first, that would be nice.

Also am quite interested to see people spam 1s and 10s pretty soon.

We all knew it was coming eventually, it's nice to actually get the confirmation though. More Demon Slayer is always welcome. Can't wait to see more crybabies in the forums who hate the show, but still let it live rent free in their heads and give it attention instead of simply letting people like what they want while doing something productive with their time....like focusing on shit they actually do like lol.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Best arc of the series imo. Really excited for it! Probably a 1-cour anime, which is fine. Though I wonder, would the season after that also be 1-cour, adapting the two arcs before the final arc? If so, that's gonna be a pretty uneventful season iirc what the manga content was.

Nah it will be something like this, mark my words

- 1st season (up to mansion arc / 26 episodes)
- Movie (infinity train arc)
- 2nd season (entertainment district arc / 12 episodes)
- Movie (Swordsmith village arc)
- 3rd season (pillar training arc + dimensional fortress arc / 20 something episodes)
- Movie (countdown to sunrise arc)

Not really surprising considering the huge success of Kimetsu no Yaiba, but a very welcomed new for sure. Best arc animated with ufotable's magic is gonna be amazing.

I just hope the Infinity Train movie will be available by the time the second season comes.

Hype! Looks like they're really gonna step up the quality with the new season.

Looks like they started producing this right after they finished the movie. Usually it takes a year or so to produce something like KnY (assuming it's 24 episodes long, given how successful the series and the movie is, it probably will be.)

My guess is fall 2021.

That does sound ideal, though I wonder if a movie would be able to cover all of the Swordsmith Village arc. It's almost as long as the Entertainment District arc after all. Plus that arc lacks Zenitsu and Inosuke screen time and both of them are really popular characters. Those characters and their seiyuu can't be used for the marketing of the movie, or at least not as much as they were for the Infinity Train movie.

I think the Swordsmith Village arc might be a TV series (10-ish episodes), but I agree with the Pillar Training arc being a season starter, rather than a season finale, and that they will most certainly make the series finale be a movie.

Pretends to be shocked.

Considering the amount sales the manga has had in the past year or so especially last year where they out sold one piece by a large margin ( 82,345,447 )
And also the 37 billion yen they made from the film it was when it would happen now we know

Extremely excited for this. I love the majority of KNY, and the Red Light District arc was easily the highlight of the entire thing. If they go for a split cour and decided to do Swordsmith Village, even better.

Already from the PV the animation and OST look and sound stunning as always; can never expect too little from ufotable.
