I love Baseball anime, but Cinderella Nine kinda turned me off on the idea of the female side of the sport in anime

No spoilers please, just let me know if this one starts out anything at all like Cinderella Nine?

I'll admit I was spoiled rather early way back so my expectations bar for the sport genre overall is rather high or anime adaptations. I was first introduced to baseball themed anime by Major! To this date, there is no baseball anime that comes close to even topping this elite monster of a story, it's really amazing and has you hooked in just five episodes of the first season. I was elated when I heard of Major 2nd. Ace of the Diamond is up there, but even that one doesn't come close to touching the number one spot for me and even I would rank it at second place.

I've seen some others like Money Pitch, MIX Meisiei Story, Big Windup (1 & 2), those were okay I guess.

But the minute I check out more of a female side of the sport in Cinderella Nine, I couldn't get into it to at least keep watching till its finished. Even Little Busters was at least more tolerable for me to watch and I'm not saying that either of them were bad, I just couldn't get into this one.

So essentially I'd like to know if anyone who's watched Tamayomi could at least say whether or not they'd recommend it?

I haven't seen much of Tamayomi because well what I did see had really poor animation. Like extremely poor which doesn't work for a sports show but I can recommend Taisho Baseball Girls instead. It's animation isn't anything mind blowing but it is still really good in my opinion. It has quite a bit of slice of life and is quite comfy but is still all about baseball.

I doubt it will top Major for you as it is only 12 episodes but it is still a really nice time in my opinion.

For context I have high opinions of Ace of Diamond and Big Windup. I really enjoyed Cinderella 9.

Tamayomi has some good points. It's definitely more serious baseball than C9, but as Callal mentioned the animation is lacking. They opted for CGI to show more of the sport and episode 4 in particular is pretty brutal. I recommend C9 over this one to anyone who wants CGDCT or a female centered baseball anime.

The last few episodes of Tamayomi did improve my overall opinion on it, but if you're looking for something better than what you've already seen I'd pass on this.

If you're looking for a female sports anime that's actually quite good, I'd recommend Hanebado!

Tamayomi is more of an iyashikei with light shoujo ai elements inside of a sports anime shell. There's also a huge focus on thighs, so I'd probably recommend it if you're into that and recommend against it if you're not. There's heavy use of CG animation too, which I know is a turnoff to many.

It's definitely not as bad as the rating here on MAL would suggest (currently sitting below a 6). I think the first episode is a fairly good representation of the show as a whole. They do end up playing baseball on the back half, but it's paced in such a way that you really won't like it if you don't like the early episodes. They will also answer NONE of the big questions, so if you're somehow in it for that, just drop.

The biggest problem this show had was animation. Animation problems don't bother me much since I care more about the characters and the story and well they really delivered imo. The games were hyped especially the last one! So yeah if animation quality bothers you a lot you might not like it, but if it doesn't maybe you'll enjoy it. It's currently my favorite baseball girls anime that's for sure. Taisho Baseball Girls is my 2nd favorite so if production quality does matter to you a lot, maybe check that series out.

Pretty much (if you still need it), it feels different to cinderella nine. I personally felt more of a passionate sportsmanship (well woman in this case) in this series. The character are adorable but seriously taking their time to reach the peak and the studio somehow destroy the entire storyboard with their art (4th, 5th and 6th episodes). But the story itself is very good and not comparable to that cinderella nine
