Can we expect the quality to be even worse during the final battle in WFP arc than it is already ?

well looks like they are talented ADs here though if they have the Vinland Saga ADs and CAD joining them

so hopefully the talent will overcompensate again for the lack of time

but ye im still worried since more ADs is a sign of a troubled production on any anime

what is WFP arc? lol i feel like im not much of a fan of this franchise by not knowing acronyms and jargons like that

The final battle from chapter 116 to 119 is what I'm refering to
EP 14 and 15 will probably handle those chapters

that will be part of the final episodes ye im not confident they will have high quality production but the talent may overcompensate (again) for the lack of time

the production schedule will keep on tightening in the middle of episodes of any anime so this is expected imo

@yaegerist-15

true BluRay corrections are expected for off-model drawings
do you think chances are high spend some time to hand draw 1-2 fights in the bluray? I mean when the final season is finished there is no reason to rush it and they could fix even some fights with more 2d
they would move to the next anime to work on, actually I believe aot staff are already preparing for the next mappa anime

btw final episodes of most anime usually have good quality animation though so there is that not sure it can happen with this show though

I hope they mean that. I would personally been absolutely fine with the disappointment of episode six if they deliver top notch quality during the War for Paradis.

For my stories, whenever i got pushed so hard that I have to work almost double shift every days, I just simply complete the jobs as long as this is not noticeable given the schedule.

Yeah... I think it would've been near same results, talent alone is not the problem, time is the problem, its a surprise they pulled off the good looking scenes in ep 6 apparently, and there really is no guarantee WIT would've gone with 2D titans given time frame, and the number of titans, also the complex ass designs of new uniforms..... it could've been near same results or worse given other projects and man power, just with a different art style. kinda like how they pulled a cg colossal in S2 without any real warning before, and its 2d in the opening.

As one who used to get directly involved in the process
, I beg to differ. Working on episodes with stringent guidelines and attention to detail to follow are really unforgiving to say the least even with the smallest of misses. This is something that you can't simply half-ass unlike your normal rank and file salaryman job as a simple error in a series with strict metrics can leave you with lesser to no tasks to work in the show in the future.

Some misses might slip to the broadcast but once that gets noticed, your chances are pretty much fucked. That's how it works in here.

why didn't WIT go with cg when its easier for any studio since S1?
lets be honest WIT is much more passionate for AOT then any other studio and most certainly more then mappa

WIT did like 2700 changes in bluray, while other studios do 120-150 at most and call it a day.

i heavily doubt mappa animators care anyway since they're overworked as fuck doing 4+ animes in a row or in parallel

because they had resources a bit more time and more vision while making first season like any other anime first season? Like that is basically the anime that made the studio? Hence they had to make so many changes? And whats your point, i was trying to say result couldnt have been any better given time frame. Like literally same amount of people wouldve worked if wit did it whilst parallel with great pretender.... the reason it left was actually because it cant make it with given time, and drawing the titan action is certainly tougher and no guarantee if Imai would like to work on it, since even Kamed doesnt seem to be working on this season, in which case yeah we will get the best Levi vs Beast titan of all time.

While talking with my friend I thought of the newest season of Attack On Titan like this:

" So it's not terrible like Berserk 2016/17 but it's sort of like a downgrade overall. The sound mixing, animation, and overall adaption of the story is a downgrade. Like it went from an A+ to maybe B to C or so. "

I think the voice acting in this adaptation though it is still very good. I remember reading the manga the first time and all these moments were incredibly exciting. I'm not even a manga elitist in fact the previous ones were all better than the manga by FAR, but this season definitely just hits lower.

Also, the music in this season while not bad it just isn't good either. Does anyone remember You See Big Girl. That fucking slaps every time. But the music here just seems eh like they only made one track ( The One in the trailer ) Then keeps using for idk EVERY SCENE WITH ACTION. I love the song, but it's like a Berserk situation. I love Berserks music a fuck ton like Ash Crow and Hai Yo, but man they use the same track over and over making it feel not important or cool anymore. Like Guts would onto the screen and it would be like "HAI YO, DUMDUMDUMDUMDUMDUM" it ruins the music of both seasons. I don't know if the sound director had enough experience. Also, the scene with Sasha reloading is a perfect example of this. There isn't even a sound for the reload just the animation which makes it look real awkward to look at.

Also, the Opening is really disappointing as well. It's just bath bombs but with awesome music.

While in my profile I say animation isn't everything I must admit what made Attack On Titan one of the best anime of the last decade, Was the animation and music. While I love the story for Attack On Titan isn't as good as other titles I've read.

I'm sorry, but you really can't defend the CG here. It is not good. While not the worst we have seen. It is nowhere near good enough. If you are defending it I don't know I think you are encouraging these crunch times, the CG isn't good. I don't think we can say it is good. Look at the scene where Eren is yanking the Warhammer Titan. I'm sorry but no that is REALLY bad CG like really bad. I actually thought it was worse than Berserk for a second. The fact I can even compare Attack On Titan to Berserk 2016 and 2017 is pretty bad to be honest. I don't think CG in any anime should be supported. Even Attack On Titan in previous seasons used CG which looked wonky ass shit.

We have seen MAPPA pull off incredible animation. Like seriously some really fucking good shit. But man it's a shame that they did pick up Attack On Titan.

While I think MAPPA was a definite mistake, harassing the creators isn't cool. It just doesn't help the team that is trying. Though criticism is definitely required. Maybe one day there will be anime with no CG with enough talented animators. Personally, I would rather wait another year just so some of these scenes can be done proper justice.

I know it seems like I am nitpicking which I probably am but I just wanted the season to be better, MAPPA is doing an average or slightly below-average job. That's just my take on it anyway. And while I give the Berserk Adaptation a 10 still it's because the core story is still good enough to pass the oversights. But this... this is just disappointing. Just don't harass the creators I'm sure 90% of us criticizing couldn't even come close to the talent some of these guys have, even though I just criticized them.

(I have fully caught up with the show.).

This community, fanbase, and jsut MAL in general once again proves they don't shit about animation. The CGI doesn't even look bad. It seems this whole thing is, "CGI bad" comes from people who don't like CGI in general but said nothing about in past seasons.

This season is made with a lot of love and it blows my mind dudes with barely 10 posts acting like they know more than MAPPA. I don't get why they were trying to fastrack this show but it has been great so far. Wow, I can't believe some people. MAPPA is a good studio on top of that.

to be fair: I like 70% of the cgi and the adaption is a good from the point of the direction, cinematograpy, storyboarding, ost and VA. BUT I think at least the attack titan and beast titan could be hand drawn. I mean ofc the cgi standalone is pretty good but its wonky on the AT and BT sometimes and it dont fit them. And on the scouts too. Some of the criticism is fair but hating the studio is stupid because they are doing a great job with the adaption and the quality is at least between season 3 part 2 and season 3 part 1. Just with the fantastic story and the action...it deserves at least a more polished version and I would be happy if just erens and zekes titan would be 2d. The other titans are awesome in cgi. But if I think about a certain fight later and see the last 3 seconds of the trailer (eren vs reiner round 3), which was animated by yochimichi kameda, it hurts me a little but that we wont see this animated

Yeah the worse CGI was in this series was thsoe crappy live action movies. Here it is either serviceable PS2 game or looking like a next gen console at times. I do think some of the moment and actions can be done. I do think hand drawing Attack Titan and Beast Titan would have been a smarter idea but take even longer to animate as you need to fit size and scale... and these fuckers are big as shit. So I get you dude.

If season 1 looked like that nobody would give a shit about attack on titan nowadays.

Go back and rewatch season 1.
Rewatch how amazing that looked

And then reconsider the shit take that is pretending like the new CGI actually looks good.

The CGI in the first episodes of the new season was okay.
The ones in the latest was plain bad.
And neither of them was anywhere close looking actively "good"

The best the CGI in this series gets is "not complete dogshit, I guess ."

I've been watching the show since S1 aired, and imho S2 looks the best, then S1, then S3 and finally S4. At the end of the day it doesn't bother me, but that's how I see it. S3 started implementing a lot more noticeable usage of CG, and imo specifically ruining the look of shifters like the colossal, the beast looked a lot worse too imo, kind of like he was from the game. That's why I place S1 above 3, despite the weird lining and tone situation it had. I haven't watched any full episodes of S4 yet, but I've seen a lot of clipped content from it and it kind of makes me think of a PS4 cutscene every now and again being blocky, odd animations, less detailed or at least less depth at certain scenes times, and just generally feeling like it hops back and fourth from looking like AOT S3 to like the recently animated godzilla movies in terms of visuals, to me at least. It's not bad but it's odd. I still prefered overall all the previous seasons visually to it though, despite all the episodes that are out now.

To me, the look of a show changing is worthy of a viewer's attention, like OPM S1 and 2 or SDS S1+2 against S3+4, but in this case it's not going from great to garbage, it's just weird though. I also don't really like how expressions don't have the same impact that a lot of them do in the manga, but that's just a little nitpicking from me. I dunno, I don't appreciate the heavier use of CG as the series progresses imo, I think they should have just stuck with the way S2 looked for the remainder, and this studio should have tried to steer further away from the CG path too. I don't really understand why some people are losing their stuff or acting like homunculus about it, I don't like it's visuals either, but then I don't really care much anyways. I'd probably rather another studio animate it, or that these guys had more time or budget or something to make it look better even if they went for pure CG, since you can still make fantastic stuff with it, but it's out and we're stuck with it now. I don't think pure 2d would have to be good either though since S1 kind of looked foolish at times, it was HD sure but it had a plethora of issues too just like anything else. It's just weird. I may think the final arc pretty much sucks and ruined the series, but I also think the studio could have put more effort into the quick pacing they have, the removal or reallocation of content, the expressions, and the graphics at key scenes as this is literally it, then it's all over. Nobody is really to blame, nor does it have to be a negative thing or even matter at all to anybody other than myself, it's just how it is. Those're just my personal thoughts though not facts, I'm not enforcing them lol, figured I'd share them now while it's still relevant though.

Yeah as I said there are bad shots, but good shots as well in ep 6 tbh. like the entire sequence with wht vs eren first half minus some of eren's bad titan model face.

PS: I personally feel the war hammer spike and the beatdown sequence cg looks just as good, and sometimes better than in ep 1, then again thats just me.

If it's not AT LEAST Lupin the III: The First quality, CGI should stay FAR away from anime.
It's not that CGI is a bad thing. If that was the case, Pixar movies and Shrek wouldn't be loved.
It's CGI in ANIME! It simply doesn't fit.
Everyone praises Beastars for example, but it simply feels like good PS4 graphics for a unrealistic graphical game. Not an anime.
It would've simply been better in 2D. No debate. (You can attempt obviously, but it wouldn't have any effect, and get no response)

Yabuta one of the staff of the 3DCG team of the Final Season speaks

In Japanese anime industry, most animators are freelancers and rewards are paid for each cut. Few people have a contract with the studio.
Each year, over 200 anime titles are made. So the lack of animators is a big problem for all studios

And there is no big difference in rewards depending on the title. (At least there is no difference to overturn the motivation of animators.) So animators often choose titles to be involved for reasons other than rewards.

There are many trends, but newer and seasonal titles are more preferred. Some titles can gather animators without doing anything, and some can't gather no matter how hard you try.

https://twitter.com/yabshu55/status/1352366987318489088

as i guess super animators can be choosy on anime projects they work with and they will usually not work on an anime project that have bad production schedule

Some titles can gather animators without doing anything, and some can't gather no matter how hard you try.

https://twitter.com/yabshu55/status/1352366987318489088

as i guess super animators can be choosy on anime projects they work with and they will usually not work on an anime project that have bad production schedule
this is so disappointing. I made my peace with all Titan shifters in cgi, now the odm scenes too (but they are good) and even humans. No superanimator or freelancer too. Tbh that’s so disappointing man, I really like the adaption so far with some cgi flaws here and there but god damn it, this final season deserves quality. I really hope to see some good animation in episode 7 and 2-3 other episodes. I thought just titans are cgi and not all the action with little to none sakuga

I'm honestly hoping that Mappa is given much more time for part 2 (probably won't happen). Maybe a movie will be better since generally, production values are much higher.

The last arc is perfect for a movie so yeah hoping for that.

CGI was never the forte of the MAPPA studio.

Unfortunately CGI was never the strength of the MAPPA studio, but the 2D part is still good. I found the opening weak (animation), but I liked the music.

I think its a 7/10 adaptation . Better than the manga ofc but laughably bad at times . The attack titan looks horrible . They should have put more detail into the face of the model . Some shot were good some were bad . The talking episodes are fine if they don't cut content . Inconsistent models and CGI scouts don't make the episode better . The sound director clearly doesn't know what he's doing .

Ofc, everything is to your opinion, but lemme tell some stuff about the production

As to the reason why Scouts had CGI. Their uniforms were too detailed to have been hand drawn completely. One look will tell you.

As for the Sound Team, it's the same from previous seasons.

I think MAPPA did a fantastic job with every episode based on what they were given.

The Warhammer Titan model was phenomenal. It honestly looked way better than the trailer

Eren’s model was laughable at times. There were times where his hair was supposed to be moving but it was stiff...like some pieces were curled up when the hair should have fell straight. I’m surprised his model isn’t the best out of all of them. His is the worst. He’s too chunky looking. Hopefully it improves in the future.

I don’t have an issue with the cgi scouts honestly. As long as it’s used sparingly and in far away shots. They did 2D when necessary at least. It’ll be easier for them to do cool maneuver gear stunts with 3D animation. A good example is how they really made Mikasas entrance even more epic.

i still really just think its such a shame

imagine if they hadnt changed studio, its not bad, but i think it wouldve been so much better. aot is such an important anime and they handled it in such a lackluster way

It wouldn’t have been better. If Wit stayed doing it, it’s highly likely that the season wouldn’t even have colour on top of far worse visuals.

Yeah... I think it would've been near same results, talent alone is not the problem, time is the problem, its a surprise they pulled off the good looking scenes in ep 6 apparently, and there really is no guarantee WIT would've gone with 2D titans given time frame, and the number of titans, also the complex ass designs of new uniforms..... it could've been near same results or worse given other projects and man power, just with a different art style. kinda like how they pulled a cg colossal in S2 without any real warning before, and its 2d in the opening.

why didn't WIT go with cg when its easier for any studio since S1?
lets be honest WIT is much more passionate for AOT then any other studio and most certainly more then mappa

WIT did like 2700 changes in bluray, while other studios do 120-150 at most and call it a day.

i heavily doubt mappa animators care anyway since they're overworked as fuck doing 4+ animes in a row or in parallel

Wit isn’t passionate about AoT. Their workers are more overworked and abused than Mappa’s which is one of the reasons it was dropped. The animators pretty much straight up refused to work on the series anymore because Wit’s president wouldn’t let the go home for days/weeks at a time. They’d sleep at their desks and be fed things like energy bars rather than actual meals. They were pretty much forced to work as much as they did.

I just hope they bring in some banger OSTs for the final fight of the season and pair it off with some actual good animation?

Did MAPPA know that every one else refused and that the schedule was very tight? Yes.
Did MAPPA know they already have million other projects in the works? Yes.
Did MAPPA know they would barely deliver if they accepted the offer? Yes.
Did they accept the offer? They did.

MAPPA knowingly brought this shit upon themselves. They are just as guilty.

Unfortunately most people don't recognize that. No sane studio would've ever taken that deadline on the project.

If SDS S3 and OPM S2, half of the excuses people keep making up would be gone as well. Funnily enough people keep comparing AoT to the handful of worse adaptation out there like the bar should be that low in the first place.

exactly
OPM wasn't bad, but it wasn't as the same level as the first season, and yet i didnt see these excuses for it
the last season of AOT changed everything
most of them are defending Mappa because they are fans for Mappa and not AOT

WIT's Cg was probably not that good ig? ALso s1 had Ig helping them so they managed somehow, Passion cannot be measured by final product imo, u could be crazy passionate and work your ass of but it still may not look amazing on screen, u don't like the CG but that doesn't mean they aren't passionate

Well, I think they bought it upon themselves. But in now way I would be happy if they didn't pick it up. Because if production committee is so greedy, why wouldn't they cash in the hype by giving it to a smaller IG studio, who would then outsource it. And we would then cry about slideshow in place of cg.
If you look at the best case scenario of they delaying it, don't forget the worst case scenario of complete outsourcing.

Anime was it's best 20000 years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth.
Modern anime is all garbage. I miss great old days of anime.

Did MAPPA know that every one else refused and that the schedule was very tight? Yes, also did Wit tho, for 3 whole seasons.
Did MAPPA know they already have million other projects in the works? Yes, but they also have a LOT of employees (I don't know how it works but just searching on their wikis, Mappa is 200 strong, meanwhile Wit is just 34). We must consider that most of the staff in the industry just float around and a lot of them are just under contract.
Did MAPPA know they would barely deliver if they accepted the offer? Yes, so do the majority of anime studios, that's the industry.
Did they accept the offer? They did.

I don't want this comment to be seen as excusing companies of this behavior because they're definitely overworking their employees and here lies the real issue. Let's just not reduce the problem to being that simple or just limiting it to Mappa, because like everything it's just not that easily comprehensible.

The season is great and just analyzing its quality by their use of CGI is a disservice, could it be better? ofc, as 95% of other anime.

This is simply not true, the vast enormous majority of AoT viewers are casual anime fans/people who will not recognize even if there's a studio change. And they're liking the season a lot.

Most of them haven't even seen another Mappa production, or even be interested in seeing.
