Seems to be the start of a more typical Jun Maeda story although the fact that he just didn't make extra recordings of the tapes doesn't make sense and its not really explained how his wife dying led him to become a hikkikomori

Um it makes sense because the point is she want them to move on instead of constantly thinking about her and mopping about it.
I can understand the mourning aspect but why would he become a hikkikomori

I think Hina's realization at the end of the episode was more related to Yota chickening out than a romantic twist. Being a diefied wing girl to a dense MP is tough, after all. :' )

Lmao. Suddenly they returned to the main storyline to resolved Izanami family issue. Well, its not a big surprised too since she already hint a problem from the previous episode .... It looks like the real heavy drama might be started out after Izanami successfully openned up her heart. However, it seemed the way to the end of the world still be hard to reach a satisfying ending, by looking at Narukami last decision. Seriously, boy?? You already wasted the previous chance, now that golden ticket too you wasted it one second? Omg, that kid really reaching out my nerved xD. Yes, no way everything resolved at 5th episode. Lol.

However, the way of Odin aka Hina feeling uneasy about Narukami's future after Izanami openned her heart, and then about her passion toward the mother issues. Its pretty much pointing out something fishy. Oh well, i don't want to speculate much. Because it might be became a great failure to me. But from these episode, ngl, the feel already hit at the right place. I am satisfied enough, much tearing my eyes than before. As expected as a heavy drama show, Kamisama ni natta Hi, slowly showed their true identity. And The mystery of Odin aka Hina and every background surrounding her might be getting uncoverred maybe at the next 2 or 3 episodes ....

Well, i believed its not getting resolved at the next episode one. Because it had a high possibility to be back to the the episodic episode format again, as the countdown became slower than i expected. I must be patient. The pattern already been designed, so sooner or later the revelations will come to hit me. Yeah, i might be prepare for the worst scenario too!

This episode felt a lot more serious than the previous ones and it was quite sad when they watched the videos. It was nice that Izanami and her dad managed to talk. I think it’s good that Youta didn’t ask her out again because it would have been like he was taking advantage of her gratitude.

That felt awfully easy and convenient. I was expecting some kind of struggle but it ended just like that. Well that never happened to me so I'm not one to complain here. The wackiness was toned down a bit and we finally got a more serious episode with Jun Maeda writing all over it. If there's one thing that is consistent here, it's the OST. Definitely one of the best OSTs this year.

The end was a very Yota thing to do but I didn't expect it that much. Hina is feeling something in her chest but I hope it isn't what I'm thinking. The countdown's interval is shrinking every episode and it's getting more serious now, classic Maeda move. We're reaching the half of this series where it's usually the turning point so I'm paying extra attention to the next episode.

Damn damn damn...sad damn. The tears were almost there, but damn...it's not there yet.

This anime is finally testing me...to cry...this is just the first attempt. The best way to make me cry in an anime...is about family...and damn they almost got me. Pacing was just a tad bit fast and the dialogue was not strong enough, but it doesn't matter. I was almost crying in this episode on how important Izanami's mom is to her and to her dad.

And just like in Episode 2 (where Yota still can't confess to Izanami), he once again failed but this time I'll forgive him. Atleast he realize that it's unfair to confess to her after helping her too much with his and Hina's grand magic, and you know what I ain't breaking my earphones for that weak mindset from Yota ever again.

Some of the comedy was there but the sad moment is truly worth of an applause.

A touching episode.I regard it as the best episode by now of this series.

I like Izanami and glad to see a complete story about her.Something about losing a family member isn't creative but it can always move us.Which bought us happiness was that relations between Izanami and his father has been improved due to Youta and Hina's efforts.

By the way, there're some hints in this episode.
1.Youta pointed out that Hina became highly reactive when they were talking about topics of mothers.I bet this dialogue will be important in the next plots. It might have to do with the whole world.
2.Hina said her heart was stirring. It seemed like she like Youta and doesn't want him to become boyfriend of Izanami...

I also have a question. Why can Hina imitate the voice of Izanami's mother? My opinion is that all this world is created by someone and Hina is the administrator. After watching the video of picnic Hina has known the voice of Mrs.Izanami.She adjust her voice then...(Just an imagination...)

Evidently, Hina is making Youta help people out with their personal problems. It's reminding me of Clannad and Little Busters, how Tomoya and Riki helped out the cast to accomplish something in the end.
And nice, the insert song is a vocal version of the first OST heard in EP 1. Also, after Youta doesn't confess, an upbeat version of the piano song is heard.

I think people might be thinking that she likes Youta, but I think it has something to do with time shenanigans or prediction shenanigans. Not sure, but I don't think it's romantic.
I'm starting to think that Hina's powers aren't to predict, but to manipulate the world.

-----------------------------

Observations

Yea, I don't think it's romance. It's probably related to what Hina means about "World's End". It may be Hina will die in 30 days or Hina will forced to go back in time in 30 days because of some reason we don't know yet.

Definitely a more drama filled episode than last, and probably the best one so far too.
And those ED visuals and post-credit scene made for a nice icing on the cake.

So I'm guessing Izanami will be a bit more upbeat for the rest of the series, which should make things a bit easier for Youta now.

My god, this episode certainly gave me flashbacks of Violet Evergarden's masterpiece of a 10th episode, which is very high praise coming from me. =)

While we still had the usual dose of some awesome funny slapstick jokes and facial expressions as usual, with Izanami's father getting all crazy over cheese dishes being one of the funniest parts of this episode, it was the powerful last 5 minutes, with Izanami and her father, watching the video messages from her mother, that really hits hard.

The special ending song, along with some short scenes of Izanami and her parents when she was younger added that extra dose of emotion to this episode. It made me tear up a bit, too. ^^'

The final scene was still hilarious, as Yota didn't have enough self-confidence to confess his feelings to Izanami, but I do praise him for not exploiting Hina's strategy to help him with his love this time. On the flip side, I think Hina's starting to develop some feelings for Yota, going by her small monologue to herself.

Not many days left, now, and the drama has only gotten started. If Maeda can produce a powerful episode like this one, I wonder what else is in store later on...

this anime is just ridiculous, this is the worst anime of the year for me, after being a fan of jun maeda because of clannad, I can't understand WHY could happen here, 4 episodes thrown to waste just to make a 5th episode similar to violet evergarden ep10...

just to add, nothing is appropiately explained in this episode, all the wasted time before just to rush everything when time really matters...

I just think my opinion will get worse if they try to make this anime better, that mediocre previous episodes are unforgivable...

After 4 episodes of pure comedy, the show finally gets to showing some instances of feels. We get to see more of Kyouko, as the episode focuses on her, her father, and her deceased mother. The potential for feels is there, but it didn't work on me that much likely because I'm a heartless nobody with no soul at all. I can see what the show was trying to do here though, as it seems the episode was trying to give a message on being happy and respecting a loved one's wishes about moving on.
It is weird that her father didn't want to show the video messages to Kyouko despite the mother clearly making them for Kyouko in mind... it's kinda close to
levels of messed-up-why-didn't-you-do-this, but whatever, I guess. Speaking of the video messages, they kinda reminded me of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai heheh.
There were also some jokes in this episode, as always, but I didn't really laugh at any of them, but I suppose it's fine since this episode's a bit more focused on some family drama.

Funimation does some localizing in their subs again; what stood out to me this episode was translating Kyouko's 「ごちそうさま」 ("thank you for the meal") to "I'm going to study" in the beginning of the episode. I suppose this localization makes sense in context of Kyouko's character and tone here and would be what she would have said if she lived in a country like over here in 'murica, but I obviously prefer a less-localized translation for my subtitles and wouldn't mind if this kind of localization was in a dub instead.
I dunno, I guess I'm just being nitpicky today...
EpicCh33se said:

This is NOT what she said. They could have translated this as "I'm done eating" and it would have been fine.
...though I am glad that I am not the only one who noticed this.
Speaking of food, this episode reveals that Kyouko's dad likes cheese dishes. As in really really likes them. Pretty cheesy, am I right?

Once again, Kyouko is accepting Yota's weird situations pretty easily and took the "underworld phone call with her mother" completely seriously with little to no questions. I guess that's just that kind of kuudere character she is. The shot of Kyouko smiling when she looks at her father and says "Let's watch it [the last video message] together" is very cute though. I like it.

I also really like the change in the ED/end credits for this episode. That pretty little piano theme that was played at the very beginning of the show is extended to have lyrics, and a cute little family montage of the Izanami family is shown as this song plays.
It reminds me of
And I mean this in a good way.

Yota misses his chance to try confessing again. I understand that you feel like this is cheating and all, but come on, at least suggest a little psuedo-date or something if you're not gonna try outright confessing, ya know? Hahahahah idk I was never a romance person irl, so maybe I'm just dumb.

Really? When did Maeda say that?

This has been stated before the show aired; iirc it was during an interview with Ayane Sakura (Hina's voice actress) about the show.

And I feel the heavy emphasis on "magic" in the emotional scene was a bit too forced. I think it would've been perfectly fine if the mom just used words normally. Nevertheless, I won't be too harsh on this aspect since everything else in the scene was great.

Finally, I am dreading Odin possibly seeing Yuta in a romantic light. I can't help but feel it's going to cause drama that isn't necessary. I'd be all for it if it was familial love though. I think that would fit right in with the themes of the show.

I actually kinda agree with you on the "magic" bit, maybe that's why it didn't get to me. And yes, I don't know how to feel about the last bit with Hina... if they go on with that kind of angle, it might feel like AnoHana and I really DO NOT want that.

We'll have a more impactful confession towards the end of the series. I didn't feel much with this episode. I thought it was great that Kyouko had closure from her late mother, that was nice.

However the mystery of Hina continues. Who is she exactly? She was able to replicate Kyouko's mothers voice just from seeing a 1 minute video (give or take). Along with her knowing a lot of specific outcomes (for the most part) I think finding out who Hina truly is along with a Confession from Youta to Kyouka are the two biggest things I am waiting on.

Also Hina having her heart strings pulled at the end was interesting. Was she jealous of Youta for thinking he was confessing his feelings?

A lot of interesting things going on in this anime.

Ah, there it is — the love triangle is official. Let me guess, for our final act Yota realizes some feelings towards Hina at the ‘end of the world’, Hina dies or something, and Yota eventually ends up with Izanami afterwards.

I almost cry, I'm not ready for what will come...

The first half was 100% comedy, the second half was 100% feels, and the last escene, while dumb, shows us Youta is not willing to "cheat" for true love, and that Izanami is finally happy.

I can't get enough of Hina's cuteness, Youta is an amazing protagonist, and I'm finally starting to like Izanami a lot.

If this anime isn't a 10/10, then I don't know what is.

They decided to do an entire episode dedicated to developing Kyouko's character. And I have to say, they fucking nailed it! Easily the best episode so far.

The usual comedic scenes featuring Youta and Hina were still there, but the overall tone of the episode was really heartbreaking. I cried a little at the end to be honest. It was quite encouraging as well, though, seeing Kyouko finally starting to move on from her past.

Youta had a chance to confess his love to Kyouko, but I'm actually glad that he didn't. I hope he will eventually be able to confess to her. Before the world ends, at least, which is quite nearby.

I mean the same happened with Chizuru in Rent-a-Girlfriend, Onodera/Chitoge in Nisekoi, Kuroneko from infamous anime Oreimo & Yuigahama from Oregairu where even when they're in love with the same person, they support that person's love interest keeping aside their feelings.

Also, this time, Hina did help Izanami genuinely, & not to close distance between Youta & Izanami. So, when she heard Izanami say that she'll do anything for him, considering Youta, Hina including us knows what first thing will come in his mind & by any chance, he confessed, she will accept it. So, for the first time, in that unpredictable moment, she felt competition, hence the fluttering of her heart. Remember what Youta said in Episode 2, someone doesn't feel fear in their hearts when there is no competition to begin with.

I'm not sure if my assumption is correct or not, but when Youta asked Hina whether she's relieved, he's referring to the confession & not to the cheating scenario because he said that before. When she was about to hit him with a pillow, if you look carefully, it's shown for 3 seconds that she blushed a little.

Fantastic episode, after seeing Kyoko's father all mopey and stuff I didn't expect him to suddenly get hyped over food, that was great.

The mother leaving messages reminded me of Violet Evergarden but, it was still a bit different and sweet in it's own way I really loved that scene and then it transitions into a special ED. Fucking beautiful.

And massive respect to Yota, he could have confessed then and there but he didn't cause he's a good boy. Confessing there would have honestly been a dick move to be honest, so massive respect. There are other more appropriate times to confess.

At first, I thought what Hina says about stirring in her heart means that something bad is about to happen and then the next scene cuts to Youta unable to confess to Izanami.

But after reading a few discussion, maybe there really was a hint of Hina's feelings toward Youta. Now I'm becoming more curious of who will Youta end up with.

I can see that one happening like in the video message, when Izanami's mother told her father that even though he loved her the most, he should move on in his life & find someone special rather than sticking in the past & making his life more miserable.

Best episode so far, and once again Jun Maeda weaves his magic on the emotional scenes. Even when I know what he's doing, he always manages to get me and this episode was no exception. Izanami's family situation really reminded me of Clannad, but still managed to hold its own emotional weight despite that. And, despite it all, the comedic ending not only didn't feel out of place but was actually brilliant as both a moment of levity and in terms of just being funny. Also good to see Youta not exploit that situation to essentially coerce Izanami into dating him.

As for Hina, her developing feelings for Youta was inevitable and does slightly concern me, but I'm far more interested in the hints we're continuing to get about her past, with further indications of something having happened to her own mother with her desire to help in both this episode and the ramen shop one.

props to the staff, this is one of two times i can remember tearing up while watching
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night

Removes the colours from our sight

Red is grey and yellow white

But we decide which is right

And which is an illusion.
