I'm liking that they move Rika in the sea of fragment space scene to after the arc actually ended. The way the anime did kinda feels like they blew the reveal too early. It's much more interesting this way with one arc ending as though it was just another loop with some variation, then the scene hits you with how the patterns are out of whack this time.

I agree, but I thought it unnecessary to show Shion now, it spoils the mystery of the next arc for new readers

I'm guessing that Rina must have played a role similar to what she did in Tsumihoroboshi-hen? The first sign that something is amiss with Rena is pretty early on, the day after she and Keiichi first go to the garbage dump, when she says she's not feeling well -- I don't think that happened in Onikakushi. I don't really understand what logic caused her to go after Satoko, Rika, and Keiichi in response to this though. In Tsumihoroboshi, she had a "reason" for her actions (to force the police into taking the action she wanted), and usually in Higurashi they have some reason (even if it's a delusion or otherwise completely off-base)... so I hope we get an answer arc.

It's interesting that Keiichi never met Takano this time around. I think this is the only arc that's happened? Usually, he sees her and Tomitake during or after Watanagashi. I wonder if it was just a fluke, or if she and Tomitake were doing something different this year... Did Rena run into them instead, maybe? We know she's still a nurse (based on the photo) and can infer that her and Tomitake are likely still together (technically his 'rumored girlfriend' could be someone else), so it's probably nothing extreme as "Takano isn't in Hinamizawa in this arc!" or something.

Anyway, as far as new readers, I feel bad for people who thought Gou is a remake and decided to start with it. Gou, upon reading it, is very clearly a sequel and intended for people who have already seen at least the original 8 arcs. Those who discovered this fact too late and got to this point in Gou now know far too much about some key questions, though I'll stay vague so as not to spell things out more than they already were.
