why is the rating so low?

There's also less than 500 people that rated it as I am writing this post, so the rating might not be very accurate.

With that said. the author made one of my favorite mangas (Angel Densetsu) and I generally enjoyed Claymore, but I think that Soukyuu no Ariadne might be his weakest effort to date. I feel that the flaws in Claymore (messy world building, weak characterization of side characters) are more prominent in this one, which might partially explain the low rating. It's also aimed at a different audience than Claymore, which I'll admit is probably his best known work, so it might further put off people looking for more Claymore.

Because it's a bad manga.
It just badly is written. The way it's written (constantly spoonfeeding and repeating the same things) it shows that the main audience is young children's or people with lower IQ. As it wouldn't be surprising that the main audience is lacking the ability to use the internet, therefore, these readers can't give a positive MAL rating. The current rating is determined by people with a higher standard for the manga.

Nope, I would have to disagree. It's just a manga that sets up a lot in the background that some people don't seem to have a long enough attention span to go along with. The current arc was set up 50 chapters earlier and is a set up for an arc (probably) 30-50 chapters from now

If you enjoyed it, and others didn't enjoy the manga. Who cares, if you got something special out of "Ariadne in the blue sky.", that's awesome! Personally, I've never read it, yet I do understand, I like somethings which other people don't, for example MM!. It's exemplified 'trash', but I really enjoyed it!

I don't think is horrible but yeah actually is the weakest work of the autor
