So I just recently finished watching the second season. Do I need to watch the film trilogy (Koudou, Handou, and Oudou) before I watch this movie?

Yes, because they change a lot of things.

TBH I didn't watch the film triology, I just looked up what I needed to know before the AU movie or just watched the new clips.
It's honestly what you want to dedicate your time to.

The very best way to approach it to see the recap movies then the sequel movie, but you shouldn't do this if you got from S2 recently, so in the ideal scenario, you would wait a few months then go for the recap movies.

That said what changed isn't that much, other than the cutting out Shirley's death, adding new scenes with her alive, and animating new scenes to connect the plot, with the cuts they made.

It is really NOT essential to watch the recap movies as a requirement for the sequel, but what people should never do is thinking it is fine to skip S1 and S2, just watch the recap movies and then the sequel... you would be a grave mistake!

I know this post is old but in case people come here for answers I watched the original anime and then this movie and I enjoyed it.
Don't bother with the recap movies.

Can confirm this: the only meaningful change is that Shirley is now alive. Keeping this in mind, this movie is simply a sequel to R2 and you don't need to watch the recaps.

You have much to learn if you have not joined the witch hunt to down vote every anime that rises above our underrated favorites. I am currently on a campaign to get Training with Hinako into the top 12. Shit taste is hard to fight though, it's like trying to talk sense to an army of hallucinating loonies.

It's hilarious to see morons wasting more time with the series they hate so much than the fans of it.
