THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I'm trying to think of any time that the gap between my eagerness for a new franchise entry, and the general disinterest and disdain from the majority of vocal fans, has been as vast as it is for this OVA. I think this might be the most extreme it's ever been. It's been quite a journey getting here from episode 1 three months ago. Early on it was announced that the rest of Seina's wives would be back, so that was something to look forward to. Much greater hype was created by the Episode 2 promo art showing high school Sasami. Meanwhile I watched GXP, having not seen it in ten years. I had such a good time that I've been suffering withdrawal since I finished it, something that hardly ever happens with anime. That show is very stupid, in exactly the way I like. While I was finishing it, the trailer for this episode came out, showing Seina's wives on the Kamidake II. This episode has become my most anticipated anime release of 2020. After GXP I rewatched OVA 3, and I agree with what I've read elsewhere, that for anime-only viewers like myself it's best to go in release rather than chronological order - watch GXP first, so that you know most of the new characters before they show up in OVA 3. The one main exception is Noike, who wasn't in GXP. (Blasphemy plus ultra, I now favor Noike over the rest of Tenchi's harem!) I wasn't planning to rewatch OVA 4, but I did. I found it much more watchable than I remembered it being. It also had much more animation in its first three episodes than OVA 5 episode 1 had, and the art looked much better than it does now. :D But the content matters to me more than the art. For the last couple of months, my mantra has been, "Can I make it to June 5th?" I made it to June 5th. But Crunchyroll didn't put the episode out until June 11th. Oh well. Imma now livetweet this thing and consequently take two hours to watch it. (Update after watching: it actually took that long.) Opening scene, we get to see Seina's wives talking about where to raise the children they'll have with him. There's such surreal novelty in watching a bunch of polygamous anime housewives calmly talk about sharing their man. In the middle of the discussion, they say that the main reason to raise their children on earth is that Team Tenchi is so chouginga OP that no real danger will ever threaten them, and the remaining episodes will likely be just as devoid of conflict as the last five (well, six) before this one. Oh, what's this? First five minutes and this crazy thing is already popping off. It's a reincarnation of Mitsuki, the main girl from Dual Trouble Parallel Adventure (which I just watched for the first time over the past month), also part of Seina's harem. TIL that Seina is the reincarnation of the MC from Dual, though these connections between other characters seem vague, and I don't think they imply reincarnation. Here Mitsuki's name is Miki Steinbeck, a character from the GXP novels, whose father seems to be just like Mitsuki's father. Rie Tanaka voices Miki, as she did Mitsuki. After watching Dual I happened to glance at the thumbnail of Tenchi Forever, and noticed that Haruna (MAL/wiki) also looks like Mitsuki. But Haruna was instead voiced by Kikuko Inoue... who in this series voices "Mirror Seto" Quis Panta. Not that the movies have any relevance here anyway, since they weren't set in this universe. Crunchyroll has corrected Jobia's name back to Jovia. Okay Holy crap, they're building another pond next to the first one! It's a good thing the version in my Sims 2 neighborhood is mainly based on Tenchi Universe, I don't have room for that T_T (I put in the Nessie from the episode before this anyway) Obviously I have a lot of work left to do on those empty lots. Scene 2 oh wow it's grand MILF supreme Seto-sama talking to Quis Panta aaaaaaaaaaaahhhh and LOL they're getting owned over some novel events I don't know about. Wow, I'm not used to seeing Seto in that position. Hilarious! SCENE 3 TEEN SASAMI YEAAAAAAAHHHHHH Oh so that's why she spent hundreds of years in loli form and is only now growing, I was wondering about that. Or did I read about it a decade ago and forget? Whatever. How many years now, and Seina is still out there fighting pirates? GXP would seem to strongly suggest that piracy would soon lose its attraction galaxywide, considering how completely he devastated them in a relatively short period of time. Ah, but I like this plan to make a peaceful country out of them. Banjo Island, or as subtitled by CR "Tabletop Island," is the setting of the Paradise War novels. It's called "Tenchi reject waifu island" by this blogger who seems to want to damage his readers' eyesight. Seina looking manlier than Tenchi LOL. Well, he is, in the animalistic sense. He and his harem have been married for years, while Tenchi and co are yet unwed and celibate. Aaaaand here's an obvious reincarnation of D from Dual Trouble Parallel Adventure. But I didn't see her in any casting announcements, and her VA Ai Uchikawa isn't attached. On the right (identified here) is Fuku. Fuku was Ryoh-Ohki's "little sister," Seina's ship from GXP. Is reincarnated D just not going to talk? Will someone at least say her name so I can look her up? SHE'S JUST HOLDING STILL SMILING AND NOT TALKING LOL WHAT WHY THE SCENE ENDED WHAT WAS THAT LOL ...Obligatory scene with Tenchi's harem, honestly until Tenchi gets his wedding I wouldn't care if they weren't even all in this episode. On the plus side, whew, more teen Sasami! I thought it might end without seeing her again. Looks like I was right when I guessed that the Tenchi vs. pirates scene would be a minute or so in between conversations. LOL he just Isekai Smartphoned them. I counted, and they/their ship got at most ten seconds of screentime before being completely subjugated. Ahhh, I should line up a rewatch of Smartphone, that was a good one of the GXP variety. That's a good comparison, actually - if you don't enjoy shows like Smartphone and Death March, you probably shouldn't watch GXP! A parting gift of Wetlook Rea. Thanks for that, Ryoh-Ohki! ^_^ The top guy in this recent casting update, Shou Kukuma, I now know is the protag of Paradise War, so that makes sense. The others in the article are his main "Tenchi reject waifus," as described in the Paradise War character list here. Each is a representative from one of the great pirate guilds, as described by Quis Panta in this episode. Clearly, Episode 3 will head straight into Paradise War, introducing yet another full cast harem to torment the fans of the original two OVAs who haven't dropped this yet. Hehe! Okay, the Paradise War wiki page sheds some light on what was going on with the cast of the island scene: Minamida is actually a pseudonym for YAMADA Seina from GXP. He walks around with four cabbits (D, F, M, K). These cabbits are believed to be either clones of Fuka from episode 24 of GXP or sub-Fukas (which I think is similar to the sub-Ryo-ohkis in TM!R). So D is a cabbit, and her name is still D. That would mean the "Fuku" on the island is not the original Fuku, then, but this F? Futhermore, this would mean that Miki Steinbeck (one of the four in the island scene) is the cabbit M, with K being Kirche. But the Miki Steinbeck Seina met in GXP novel 3 was seemingly not cabbit-related, and that happened early in his time at the academy from the start of the GXP anime... unless there's time travel involved? I don't expect a book reader will waltz in here and sort that out, so I'll look into it later. Left to right: Kirche, Miki, Seina, D, Fuku. Massive contrast against the first episode - I had a TON of fun watching this. And it's wonderfully amusing to me how much fun I can sometimes get out of shows that a lot of people can't stomach. Bring on September. |

Here Mitsuki's name is Miki Steinbeck, a character from the GXP novels, whose father seems to be just like Mitsuki's father. Rie Tanaka voices Miki, as she did Mitsuki. it's outright stated by D that they are all reincarnated. She still refers to them by their old names in the books more then she uses the right ones. what happened with the cabbits is fuku is the original fuku but in ova 4 they have widow's soul used to make it as it was her final wish and they went along with it to so she would be extra compatible with seina the other dual reincarnation girls are Ai's that are inhabiting the bodies of the clones of fuku that tarrant made. however washu seems to have been like... fuck this im gonna upgrade these bad copies and the cabbits were turned white prior to paradise war and given human forms. miki is refered to as clone miki because she was murdered by tarrant but she was an ai in an android shell and didn't know it till she instictivly uploaded herself to the internet when she was killed. she later installed herself into one of the cabbits with dr.clays help when seina infiltrated tarrant's base with D and zinv. D's original body died, she uploaded her soul's data and an ai of her to zinv though much in a similar way to how masaki sealed her self on the moon and it also went into a cabbit body. Kirche was in Nb and left Nb to go into a cabbit so she wouldnt have to slowly cut seina to peices starting with his fingers (tarrants the worst) also for anyone wondering Quiz panta is Seto. or rather she is mirror seto when seto is acting as seto. seto has a body double who was also like a mirror copy of her soul and memories. like a mirror website but the synchronization was broken by naja's memories and the mirrors memories of seina as a child which weren't shared so they split into two seperate egos. mirror seto is romanticly involved with seina. quiz panta is not always mirror seto sometimes she is the real seto. |

P.S. to anyone who DGAF about Tenchi at this point and wants to see how his story works out, just scroll down to the bottom of his wiki page here and read the spoilers. There is some stuuuuuff to see there. eff_efferson said: well you expected wrong cause its writer of eye burning tenchimuyotranslation blog here to clarify things LOL, perfect! (Isn't the internet great?) And you even created a MAL account to comment here :D eff_efferson said: it's outright stated by D that they are all reincarnated. Okay, but what about the note that "Mitsuki Sanada resembles Kiriko Masaki?" Is she the true reincarnation while Miki is more of an AI recreation? eff_efferson said: miki is refered to as clone miki because she was murdered by tarrant but she was an ai in an android shell and didn't know it till she instictivly uploaded herself to the internet when she was killed. she later installed herself into one of the cabbits with dr.clays help when seina infiltrated tarrant's base with D and zinv. Ah, wow, okay. And now I see that the bottom of Tsukiko's wiki page partially explains how Miki ended up as a cabbit. Very cool to know, thank you. Thanks for the explanation of what was meant by "mirror Seto." I like that they didn't just cast Seto's VA to voice her, similar deal with Mitsuki Rara not having the same VA as Mitsuki Sanada (which BTW, I forgot to note that Mitsuki Rara was the one Haruna resembled in Tenchi Forever). eff_efferson said: mirror seto is romanticly involved with seina. And thanks for clarifying that. Here's a bit I cut out of my post, because I thought it might be a book spoiler for something that hasn't happened yet in the anime's current time. Quis Panta, who according to the fansub of OVA series 4 I watched, "has a relationship with Seina," as if GXP didn't already have a high enough level of older woman power. (ALWAYS cast Kikuko Inoue!) So I guess it's already the case now? Anyway, I approve. nDroae said: nDroae said: SOMEHOW WHEN I WAS 22 I DID *NOT* NOTICE WHAT AN AMAZING MILF SETO WAS, BUT NOW I AM OLD AND WISE And now we've got Kikuko Inoue cast as Seto's ????? Quis Panta in OVA 5, what a time to be alive. ^ (Seto was of course talking to Seina in that doujin) And now I think all my questions are answered. Thanks again :D (Well except for that thing about Kiriko) |

Wasn’t she flat as a board or close to it damn what a growth spurt. Is she able to manipulate her size like the chioushi or Jurai altering there appearance since they don’t age well |

nDroae said: "Mitsuki Sanada resembles Kiriko Masaki?" Is she the true reincarnation while Miki is more of an AI recreation? miki is the most accurate one is as best as i can put it. there seems to be errors going on in the fabric of the astral sea due to the cast of dual creating a 3rd reality from 2 parallel ones, this is partially the reason for seina's bad luck, which by the way will get extensively worse in scope as he ages (he's agelessly immortal thanks to tenchi now) so there seems to be multiple souls with almost the same exact astral data to the original 5. other then that kiriko and miki are sort of like sisters and consider each other as such. miki was made from data gathered on her mother tsukiko to make a dating sim by this generation's ken sonada,(hiroshi manada) a freind of tsukiko's. the dating sim character file gained a soul and became sentient so he wiped it's memory and deaged it and shoved it into a human shell to raise as a daughter because its a crime to kill a sentient ai and he had no other way to explain it's existance. Hiroshi was in a love triangle with tsukiko and her lover ken rairaba steinbeck. the name ken Raraiba implies that that ken sonada and hiroshi rara's names got mixed up this time around and that ken was professor rara's reincarnation. which makes tsukiko ayuko's reincarnation in a way. btw kiriko's father ken died out of wedlock when he was on a research mission and it's implied that HIMC destroyed the space station by shrinking it with a micro black hole but im getting off topic. in a way kiriko is both the Mitsuki sonada of her group and but the mitsuki Rara of her siserly relationship with miki, miki's father is hiroshi ( the original ken sonada) and kiriko's father is Ken (the original hiroshi rara) to expand on that for anyone who cares: seina draws in groups of 4 who resemble the original girls, my theory is that he is doing this in a way that draws in 4 girls who all sort of resemble one of the other girls. so kiriko ryoko amane and neiju are the analogs of mitsuki S mitsuki R Yayoi and D in their group respectivly. in my opinion their group is dirived from a shared attribute of Mistuki sonada. what that is is up for debate honestly then you have the seto scounts the red (karen) blue (hakuren) white gyokuren( white) and green suiren, who are again analogs of mitsuki S mitsuki R Yayoi and D in that order. my theory is their group is dirived from a shared atribute of mitsuki R, that being they have dual identities and come from a nation that has mech fighters. then he has a group of older women, so that group is obviously the yayoi group. then a group of fantasy creatures, that group is obviously the D group. and then you have the group that is literaly the reincarnations of the dual cast, i theorize this is the kazuki group. Miki (mitsuki S) Kirche (mitsuki R) widow/fuku(yayoi) and D. Ah, wow, okay. And now I see that the bottom of Tsukiko's wiki page partially explains how Miki ended up as a cabbit. Very cool to know, thank you. I refuse to spend any time contributing to the wiki and the owners refuse to actually go and read my work and update it themselves and we had someone go and make really really bad and way off summeries of the novels for the wiki that are just ... beyond inaccurate to any point of reason. so the wiki is a bad source of information at this current time. i didt summaries of most of the novels and I included them with the latest release of the novels. Quis Panta, who according to the fansub of OVA series 4 I watched, "has a relationship with Seina," as if GXP didn't already have a high enough level of older woman power. (ALWAYS cast Kikuko Inoue!) It hasn't really happened much in the novels but has been shown in the comics and has very much started to develop in the novels. seina didn't know about her connection with seto untill he got zinv. he just thought kuisu was a woman who could transform, she stole a kiss from him when she turned into tsukiko and revealed that tsukiko had feelings for him. with the renza arc kuisu scurried off from seto without permission and snuck out of jurai to board racepshi to cross borders into renzan space to help seina. that is what she is going on about to seto and clearly it seems that tsunami spied on her and revealed to tenchi's girls that she is seto's double. [quote=nDroae message=59664046] nDroae said: SOMEHOW WHEN I WAS 22 I DID *NOT* NOTICE WHAT AN AMAZING MILF SETO WAS, BUT NOW I AM OLD AND WISE A milf, a womanizer, and a heart breaker, she was both washu's ex wife and mikami's ex lover. she ranked second place in top of the galaxy in comapirison to washu as naja without any supernatural or scientific assistance. while neither monster nor god she is the scariest most over powered mastermind in all of fiction few charcaters can say that their universes brahman literal bends to their will but seto can. Is she able to manipulate her size No. Neiju had her aging process stoped on the genetic level because she was under the control of a shadow government who was using her to manipulate it's peoples attitudes on things because she has the ability to steer a groups collective consiousness. Imagine a person who can just make everyone vote for whatever you want. as she ages these powers become stronger so they froze her to keep her from turning on them and basicly kept her locked up in state of isolated luxury untill they planned on murdering her which is what seto and seina saved her from. she had it undone once she was freed from their grasp. |

Also her occasional overreactions to unintentional lewdness by Seina are Sanada-ish. But in general I think of them as the gentle one. Made a mal account just for this new season. Its kinda sad to see people not liking this older anime. Ova 4 and 5 do feel like massive advertisements towards the past but yall gotta remember that this company does seem close to bankruptcy |

The dual identities isn't really just a thing with their group though. each group has at least one person with a dark "half" but the dark half doesn't seem to connect to the same astral. In Dual, Mitsuki Rara has the dark side In Kiriko's group, it's Kiriko (who is otherwise Mitsuki S) that got infected by that "whatever-it-was" dark side when she was a child. Ryoko B. also has an "other" side - it's just a lot softer. Fuku has her Widow side that can occasionally come out when something threatens Seina (I get confused if she's supposed to be Yayoi or Mitsuki R.- kinda interchangeable with Kirche- although Kirche gets the Mitsuki R look- and both have a TV personality) And Gyokuren is definitely the Yayoi of her group but has the most pronounced dark side. But yes, each girl of each of Seina's harem quartets correspond to to the girls in Dual. And when all four components of a quartet are together- it alters Seina's bad luck. He still alters the probability around him but it isn't as likely to harm him. And they are interchangeable if need be. He could have a mix of the quartets and still fix his probabilities- but the mix would have to feature the analogous girl for each of the Dual girls. He couldn't travel with 4 Yayois--- his luck wouldn't be fixed... and he'd likely be pumped dry. ...and to make nDroae's meme more apropos.... |
