+1 for Askeladd being a ruthless asshole for killing the useless Ragnar, another open-and-shut case of his reckless behaviour. But then again, "sound reasoning" for his firm servitude.

"Oh I cut too deep!" that was splendid Askeladd to his normalcy. The torture in the manga was shivers, but the anime multiplied it tenfold with its realism.

And knowing that Thorkell has made the treacherous journey faster than Askeladd's men far-fetched the distance and closing it THIS SOON. Nonetheless, Askeladd has chosen to walk the red thread of fate further. And he won't stop now, and he can't stop. Thorkell will sever all people in relations towards the enemy.

The WORSE part: betraying the great Askeladd to defect to joining Thorkell's side, add in the sacrifice of Prince Canute. Yes, his luck may have run out, but with skill and tactics he lives on to fight another day.

What a cliffhanger to end on, what will Askeladd (and his loyalists)'s fate be?

Another thrilling episode with smiling shivers. This episode is essentially paralyzing people with fear.

Damn, this show already has one hell of a death count, I can't imagine how much more it's gonna grow in just the next episode alone. Particularly sad to see the brothers have turned on him too, I actually liked them.

Nice episode.

First, the national traitor, Mr. Pinecone-head, is finally killed. Took Askeladd long enough.

Then, the deserters got killed too. That's what they get for being weaklings and cowards.

Now, more weaklings are joining the deadpool. Only one thing is left: for the shrimp (the priest) to follow suit. He's served his function: consuming as much booze as possible so the troops will be less intoxicated. Not that they even need it: real warriors don't do intoxicants (alcohol, tobacco, drugs, fast food).

Exciting episode. Askeladd's army betraying their leader, that was unexpected situation. Now Askeladd has only 4 on his army, and I am excited to see how will he stop the attack of his former army and Thorkell.

Askeladd honestly does not seem the slightest bit worried about his men betraying him. Interested to see how that plays out along with them trying to escape Thorkell all at the same time. Let's see how much luck is on Askeladd's side.

Thorkell is a MAN. Dude is so funny because he just wants to fight all the time, no matter what.

Curious to see if Canute develops into something of a warrior after losing Ragnar. Maybe that's the fire that'll kickstart something within him. Great episode as always.

Wow things are gonna go down next episode, good luck to the main characters!
I feel sorry for Canute, but maybe this will help him turn into someone that people will begin to respect

As for that triple kill.. Damn son xD
And Askeladd sure has some work to do, I can't help but feel like he's gonna blow our minds with some genius plan that we didn't see coming

Askeladd is in real trouble with that betrayal.

Thorkell is just as brutal as always, taking down Askeladd's former men like they were nothing.

Nice to see Thorkell be himself. Looks like Askellad's (idk how to spell his name) men don't trust him anymore. Poor Canute - R.I.P Rangnor.

Wow, that was intense and it seems the situation will only get more epic! Can't wait to see Askeladd vs. Thorkell, 'cause it most likely will happen. I'm not sure if it's gonna be in the next episode, though (anime-only here). Like, with all respect to Askeladd, I can't imagine him winning in a duel against Thorkell - a guy who threw a spear and killed four enemies in a row from distance, lol.

Askeladd's crew are cowards. Most were with him for years yet they still don't trust him even in the worst circumstances. But they don't know how Thorkell will treat ppl like them, so they're going to die anyway. I hate traitors, no mercy for them.

The doubts of his men ever since they've started their futile attempt to escape from Thorkell has led to this very moment and even though I was expecting a mutiny sooner than later, seeing it happen for real was a massive shock since everyone decided to turn against Askeladd to prove that he can never be unlucky enough.

Thorkell's an absolute monster. He didn't even waste a single breath to consider sparing the deserters so I can only imagine how bloody the whole place would be no matter what happens.

I also noticed how Thorfinn's starting to realize that Canute's pretty much the person he was back then so I'm excited to see him try to protect the guy at all costs but I guess that Askeladd's safety will be his number one priority if he wants to make his decade full of bottomless hatred have meaning.

Sadly that Ragnar died because of Askeladd's decision that's just to say he doesn't care what happens to anyone including Canute he's been through a lot but he needs to toughen up

Thorkell's catching up and they need to march or they'll be dead meat, Thorkell is such a badass and he's so intimidating just by his fighting skills he can wipe out anyone who stands in his way

A lot of betrayals in this episode once the others plan to join Thorkell before marching, And then now they're planning to steal the prince as an offering how would this betrayal go out.

Alright whoever the hall that English soldier was who was being tortured by Askeladd's men, man's got balls of steel alright. His will is unyielding, holy shit.

Yeah, with Thorkell on their tail and with the men growing more distrustful in Askeladd's luck and capability by the day, one by one, the traitors emerge from within the ranks until it consumed everybody else. It's ironic really, they've been with Askeladd the longest, most have been with him since over 10 years ago and yet the very simple approaching doom made them change their allegiance, whereas Thorfinn who isn't supposed to be part of the crew at all, is more trustworthy of these traitorous men.

Well, either way, they'll just get skewered by Throkell's spear- nah, Thorkell's missile. That thing is eager to impale a bunch of disloyal rats.

Meanwhile, Canute is deducting Ragnar's death, the way he acts is still akin to that of an immature brat, so needy of his mentor and companion, but Askeladd did him a favour , that slap woke him up to reality. You can just about make out his squinted eyebrows, oh he'll be getting more assertive alright.

best episode so far. this series knows how to be good without much effort, it made me raise this anime to 10.

seriously the whole askeludd misfortune thing really reminds me grifith from bresek. it's more like feeling the mangaka just took the same badass idea and copy paste it. it's not making this anime less bad as it have it's own original way to do so.

oh and thorkoll is one badass guy. and i'm not talking about that spear lol, it's more than that. his VA is adding a lot to him too.

None of those soldiers betraying Askeladd are going to have any chance of defeating him. I just can't take them seriously when I see them being constantly blitzed by main characters

Not the most interesting episode for the most part and left me genuinely bored at times, but by the end, the cliffhanger and potential payoff can justify this episode taking the slower approach somewhat. Askeladd even with his crew being more nervous and less trustful of him as they feared the inevitable with Thorkell on their asses would finally strike them down, and that Askeladd's plans aren't all perfect as they thought it would be before. Askeladd's got composure though, he didn't break a sweat about this whole situation, even with Thorkell now being right there. The torture scene was brutal but dragged out way too long in my opinion to truly be impactful, got tired and bored of watching it midway rather than feeling tense and grim about it all.

Vinland Saga's latest stretch has had some good moments with the slower pace serving to build enough events for the final stretch of the prologue to pay off. But the episodes for the most part haven't been really engaging or interesting as a whole, again, just flashes and moments that have been interesting enough to not have this series be a bad one. Visuals were subpar in this episode compared to the likes of episode 14 by comparison, the next episode being more action-packed should be better but given how inconsistent the action portions have looked, can't be sure.
