Ok, that's definitely not something I expected. I thought it would be some charming story of brining cheering music back to the shattered, sad world but we're getting some typical fantasy-comedy-mech instead.

It's not bad, just something totally different compared to what synopsis suggested.

I felt a bit bored thoughout the whole episode. I won't say that it's overly bad or trash but it certainly wasn't good (or at least for me). Hoping the following episodes gets a little bit better.

I'm quite interested in this.

Although I feel the premise was undermined by the use of music throughout the episode. It may be absent in universe, but I think the use of background music before they activated that Equipment at the end of the episode greatly diminshed the impact of that moment. In my opinion, it's a mistake, but I don't have any other serious complaints.

Of course, I'm always happy to see a mecha. But it's a shame it's 3d.

I really liked the first episode of Listeners. It isn't at all what I was expecting, but the art, the music, the characters, the world design, and the voice acting meshes really well. Animation was awkward at times, but the first episode did more than enough to bring me back for the next episode.

Damm that sure is a mountain of trash. Still it sure provides an important place of work for the locals. Still finding a girl within that trash sure was a rude shock. So that concert back then caused a large calamity huh. No wonder players are so feared by the people. Still its nice to see that the view isn't universal. So the earless are essentially shadow monsters huh an interesting design type that was contrasted by the mecha (equipment) that echo and M summoned. Their first battle while rough around the edges sure proved to be pretty interesting. Overall an interesting first ep that featured a good blend of world building, action and character intro. Im quite curious to see what will happen next ep. An decent start though not exactly a great one as i find the character designs a bit on the odd side.

Yeah I finally got around to watching this today and unfortunately it was the worst episode 1 I've seen so far. Not even studio Mappa could keep me entertained (even though I felt even the Animation was lacking as well) we'll see what happens after the next few episodes.

Mu has amnesia and then like riding a bike kills all the earless...Okay.

Please, someone tell me if I'm wrong, but I don't see how the music theme has anything to do with the mechas or the "Players" vs "Earless" (that, ironically, have ears).
It sounds just like an excuse, even at the fight, the mecha have speakers at the elbows but it was mostly punchs, but because we see some big sound waves at the sky that mean it's justified?
Nothing important. Keep scrolling.

The show having BGM and the Setting saying they don't have the concept of music don't go together. Especially when they made it clear that music existed there.
Makes no sense.
I thought the mecha fight would include using the music, but even that is not it.

The first ep is referencing Oasis "Live Forever", so I expected they would play the song actually, but NO. Although Myu was humming it if I am right.

It is obvious that they made the SETTING to be post-apocalyptic world, so why are there so many HOLES in the SETTING? For example, why is technology still so great?
People won't forget something as big as music if it was not hidden from children and time spanning four generations didn't pass by.

The setting is NOT one least bit believable.
This fatal fault makes the great BGM, animation, voice acting and all else lose its worth.
The story is supposed to pull the audience in. This show fails to do that.
It is bad enough that I who don't usually comment on shows am writing this in a fit of rage.

Pretty much sums up how I feel.

I was SO HYPE when it was described as being about the history of rock music. And the Oasis Live Forever reference was a great touch. I love that song.

I don't think she was humming it though. I listened to her bit and it sounds nothing like anything in the song...

The music isn't bad at all, but I was hoping to hear some actual iconic riffs and licks. That is a huge disappointment.

Overall I feel a bit bamboozled. I am not a huge fan of mecha and it feels kinda sloppy. The plot feels a bit overdone and mehhh.

I wouldn't say the first episode was horrible. I will give this one a shot, but this felt like it had so much more potential and just falls flat and short of it.

I like Mu enough, but I do grow tired of boring generic boy finds manic pixie dream girl to whisk away so he can follow his dreams.

BONUS she has amnesia. I got a chobits vibe for a hot second there. dunno. Feels like a lot of borrow concepts, but I might just be cynical.

this just barely manged to not completely shit the bed in the first episode it has a lot of mix mash themes but didn't land on any of them so far cool rock music ? it was okay kick ass mecha designs ? their real bad Mu was the only saving grace (having just watched the konosoba movie and re zero ovas i been hearing Takahashi, Rie a lot lately not a bad thing ), boy i'm glad it wasn't echo as the player with his personality.

will give it a try with how this seasons going...

char designs aren't bad either but they kinda do have a ugly look at times mainly due to the pig nose would've liked if MAPPA got the E7 designer / reconguista G instead seems pretty close to these but better in my view

If I didn't had a thing for anime about rock'n'roll, I'd been dropping this rn. What a crappy beggining.

Exposition, telling instead of showing, the setting is literal garbage - looks like something a 5yo would think of. The dialogues are looonnnngggg and full of explanatory bullshit. The mayor is a carboard character coming straight from my most hated saturday morning cartoons.

The only things I'll save are the good CG, the creative character design, the soundtrack - yeah, that Day Tripper ripoff included - the Cool Rock And Roll References and...

I didn't find anything ugly, it just isn't that standard design of many anime. In this anime the characters have small eyes, noses, rounded chins, cheeks, less pointed hair and are not skinny.

I think the visual design and overall concept of this series were interesting, the deep-canvas foggy industrial feel was a good visual, but it's not looking like it has the execution of most of its elements down as well as it could have.

I was expecting this to be more than a mech series with very generic mech action.

The character writing had some good moments but also missed some opportunities to really dig into the lore of the world and why Echo felt attached to the junkyard and why Myuu cared about him going out and taking risks, that was all a bit rushed and not very well-developed. The mech battle itself was also only ok-ish, lacking the weight and gravitas I was hoping it would have.

Overall an interesting start, I'm curious to see how Echo's world will be challenged as he goes outside of his comfort zone and travels, I'm curious to see the lore developed more, this series does have potential, but it had flaws, and I'm hoping it gets a bit better.

one thing I hate, why tf the mecha pop out of nowhere :( seriously, it would be way cooler if they show the amplifier kinda transform into the mecha. but in this case, it's like their trying to skip how the mecha appears and just put it right there.

That was pretty weird... A mecha anime definitely wasn't what I expected. (Then again, I don't really know what I expected.)
The story didn't catch my interest, I can barely explain what happened because I got bored and so stopped paying attention multiple times, (and when I tried to understand, I just ended up trying to understand a huge mess) and I really wish shows involving music would stop using electric guitar all the time.
However, I like the two main characters, the guy is pretty funny and interesting to follow and I like the girl's personality, so I'll probably watch a few more episodes for them and I'll see how everything develops.

I think it's not really a mecha anime, so much as it is an anime about different types of musical equipment and how those are used as
I assume we will have many episodes learning about the Earless.

Renton found a mystery girl again. Pair born from trash the pair has fun enough personalities, and interesting world of rock/speakers themed mecha.
But events are playing out in the most generic formulas. CG was ok but didn't help the action.

Wow people sure are rough on this anime, i thought it was quite likable. I enjoy the narrative of a protagonist who has been told his whole life that he belongs in the dump and can't ever go up. (forgive me if i'm wrong, but isn't India's old mindset was the same as what's mayor has been preaching in the beginnning of episode?)

By and large i liked Miu and her personality and her interactions with MC when she'd call him a pervert with that bewildered look on her face. B...but he never saw a hole before :(

Actually, the story so far not bad at all. The way they using the scavenger as the MC kinda unique in my view. The whole junkyard somehow satisfied me with its landscaping. Especially with the concept of Mecha to the Player thingy, their equipment, and, the enemy with the marked as 'earless'. Earless that had an ear? Surely it shocked me so mucu with that information in this early stage. However, it was indeed that the art and the animation could be served better than the shit like what i've seen here. Sorry. The musical instrument somehow echoed randomly with nonsensical approaching. Not good serving at once. Even the overall music sections might be enjoyable for certain people, but not to me. Its pretty awful into my earness. so i guessed not too much impressed with the first episode, here. In scales 1 till 10, i might say the first impression goes to 5, unfortunately. So lets just move on to have seen how far the terrible being began its journey, while my mind try hard to hold the craziness. I hope not, but, no conclusion so far. And it can raise up with no warning....

The logline for this show is pretty misleading based on the first episode, but I actually rather enjoyed it I dig all the buildings being named after various bands like, The Yardbirds, Dream Theatre, etc. I had no clue this was a mecha show before watching as I hadn’t read anything, but the logline on Funimation and IMDb before I started the series. The fact that the mech is born out an old Vox amp is pretty rad. Curious if the description will make more sense as the show progresses.
