Whoa, it's the episode that made me first get into the series!
Gotta love it when blatant racism is inside a children show. <3

But the actual issue is dropped as soon as it comes up. Tamaki's racism only serves a plot purpose as something that made Momoko very angry and the story is actually about how she manages to make up. Not that interesting.

I found it pretty interesting how they added that little part on racism in the episode but then again, kids can be very dumb on accident at times, I've never thought Tamaki is a bad person deep inside.

Because the episode itself was more about building Reika's character than the actual racism. I agree that the racism part was just a short plot device, but I don't think focusing the whole episode on racism would have been as good.

Reika is a pretty common type of characters, not just in anime, but in the west as well. But not a lot of them get developed much like Reika. She was the annoying ojousama (or cheerleader in the west) kind of characters at first, but they kept exploring her character, showing multiple sides of her and how she doesn't really have friends etc. Most other works would just show her as a douchebag you will hate the whole show/movie, while Reika got enough good development to actually sympathize with the character.

Other than that, the episode was really nice, lots of interaction between parents as well.

I actually think Reika is deserving of far more attention in the show as a whole but that might just be me. I find the dynamics to her character to be very interesting and quite well developed. If anything she is quite a stand-out next to the other main-characters in the series. Though I like that she seems to be getting more attention this season (even though she did have her own episodes in previous seasons).
This episode in conjunction with the episode where she was talking to her doll were exceptional moments of character development and only emphasizes her isolation as a character, and not being able to come to terms with her own inadequacies. Her disposition is very child-like at heart and it gives context to her character for her tendency to really emphasize how important she is at all stages, as it overcompensates for a lack of affection towards her on part of her peers.
As for the racist element, all the comments here seem to be making it somewhat overblown, whilst it was significant in the development of the characters. Reika clearly had no major intention of being overtly racist, it has been made clear throughout the entire show that she is not racist at all, in fact she seems to be quite cosmopolitan. To say that the episode would have been better if it just focused on racism would have completely out of nowhere as there was almost nothing leading up to this episode to suggest Reika is that kind of character.

The racism was used a plot device but at least they made a Yawara reference.

Geez how many times has this show made me tear up already... I love how it handles so many different themes and the way it can evoke emotion in the viewer with something so simple is incredible. I’m glad for Tamaki, she realized what she said was wrong and was able to make up with Momoko. Seeing Hazuki with that sumo outfit was the highlight of the season so far lol.

Momoko was ready to fiiiiiigght! Sis had her boxing gloves on! what a queen we have to stan!

But I wish though, that instead of Reika realising that Beth was a nice person and she was wrong to judge her, there was a scene where it was explained to her why it's wrong to judge people of different races and then maybe the Beth video message scene to cement it in. But all in all I liked this episode
