Was there ever a version without the black dot covering the old man's lower bit? Is it a western censorship thing or did it have the dot on the original release?

The instance in which someone made a forum for this specific minuscule detail has layers to it.

Assuming you don't have a liking for elderly genitals, I suppose you have an interesting inquiry. What's beneath the black dot? Was the dot edited in on top of something, or was it initially animated with nothing lying beneath?

Speaking from an animation standpoint, I'd imagine the visual is nothing more than a couple lines. Maybe a rounded line here to represent one thing and another there to represent another.

And yeah, did the first screening have the dot?

I intended to leave a shorter more comedic comment but I can now see why there is a lot to consider here.

To think, though, I was 7 years old when someone inquired about this. Now I'm 19. I wonder where this person is today, and if the black dot still crosses their mind.

Not the question that was asked, it was about comparative cultural censorship in eastern and western cinema. Was it on the original Japanese theatrical release or was it placed there for western sensibilities?

Anyway as no answer was posted by anyone, it wasn't added to coursework paper.

And no I haven't given it a second thought as the paper I was writing is long gone and forgotten.

Wow! Very, very interesting that you still come back here after a decade though.

So, really, your inquiry was in regards to cultural censorship, and how cultures censor certain things. And it was for scholarly purposes too.

It's also funny how you were attempting to get answers from MAL from an academic paper. Not that that's something you shouldn't be doing. This is a great place to converse with other people who may have answers to your anime-related inquiries. But it's a funny though, consulting people in a place like this for answers.

Well. Sorry to have reminded you of your 12-year-old question. Too bad no one had any answers for you.
