The Saga of Tanya the Evil (light novel)
| I was once talking about anime art styles with one of my friends and he mentioned that the size of the eyes on female characters turned him off the show. So now I wanted to make this thread to discuss it with the MAL community |

| The artstyle was great to me. The eyes were not a problem at all. In fact I liked their design: big, shiny and cute. They added a lot of charm and cuteness to female characters. :) |

| Yes, it was one of the reason why I didn't watch this anime when it aired. It gives the impression that the female characters are going to be annoying, especially considering that the set-up of the anime looks more serious. Characters being drawn like this is one of the signs it will be the "cute little girls trying to look dangerous and failing" type of anime. If you look at the cover of the novel, it gives you a completely different impression. |

| I actually didn't mind it in this anime. The only giant eyes I can't stand are the ones from clannad. Characters literally look like emotionless aliens. I dropped the series halfway through the episode 1 many times because of this. |
| No, it was a shock the first 2 episodes but i got used to it, at least the characters look different from other shows |
| Tanya's eyes are pretty much the best thing about this show. |

| I doesn't prevent me from watching the show, but this design bothers me, not only when it comes to the eyes but the mouth as well. And looking at the novel's covers just makes me dislike the show's design all the more. Novel Tanya has a very juvenile, almost angelic face, while at the same time being truly scary, and that's actually the contrast between this angelic face and those psychotic facial expressions that make her scary, she's a monster in a child's body and it shows. In the show, she doesn't at all give me the same impression because she doesn't even look like a little girl but like a cartoony baby, and a cartoony baby's face is much less effective than an actual kid's one. I'm actually incapable of taking Show Tanya seriously. I haven't read the novels so I don't know how she is there but in the show, and that's mostly due to her design, she just seems comical to me, not scary. (Though I must admit I'm only at episode 4, maybe it'll change.) And it looks like the show itself knows that her design doesn't make her scary in any way, so all it is able to do to fix that is rely on psychotic smirks literally all the time. But even that doesn't make her scary when it happens for the 10th time in a row. So yeah, this design is bothering me, however it's only Tanya's that I truly dislike. I'm really not fond of Viktoriya's, but at least it kind of fits her character anyway. |
