A river just outside the village. This is the main food source for the town, as it is a breeding ground for many fish due to the amount of food for them to feed on and plenty of hiding spots for their eggs. That combined with the climate means fish choose this place to spawn year round, making it important to the village.

As the group made it out to the river Savant would notice the uneven terrain. He'd look at the shallow water and jump up to take high ground and survey the immediate surroundings with his eyes, as he hopefully would not make an immediate visual contact with the calamity seeds, he'd look up at the hunter: "It looks like the terrain is quite uneven here, we have a lot of ranged firepower so we could exploit the terrain and make up a bottleneck to prevent them from overwhelming us..." Berto would sit down on the ridge and look down at the hunter.

"I'd like to maintain a terrain advantage. The shallow-water would reduce our mobility but that would also be true for them. It would help a little to know how their hunting behavior is. Does their leader stand back and send forth it's minions or does it take front. This could help us plan the initial contact. I can't stress enough that the answers to these question are a matter of life and death, one bad move and people will start dying."

Although some of her teammates somewhat agreed with her, even their dear team-leader, James' reply still made her want to throw rocks at him. At this rate, she might start running out of rocks. From thinking her tone was too 'brusque' to simply ignoring her criticism by neither giving them new information nor answering why he couldn't give it to them without coming along... She definitely had no desire to protect this fool any-more. After all, he didn't even bother trying to give them a good reason to come along, which equalled telling them he was a dead weight that'd endanger their mission without any reason. If anything, saving him would merely prevent his suicide attempt.

Well, maybe she could at least get one thing out of him whilst they were walking to the river... “Did you find out anything about that portal? If that's how the Calamity Seeds got here, it's not unlikely that someone planted them here using it.” Having ran into Eden, she knew there were groups capable and willing to do such a thing. “There's a certain group that could certainly do so, but running into them wouldn't be good for us. Not with our current strength and numbers.” That said, there might also be another option. “However, if you say the leader of these calamity seeds is indeed more intelligent, it might be plausible that the portal was its own creation. Do you know anything that might reaffirm or deny that theory?”

Arriving at the river, Victorique would just let Berto do his thing. He did sound a bit overly dramatic, as the hunter dying would merely be a fulfilment of his death-wish, and a SOUL would merely be resummoned (or not, and they'd finally be dead for real). Only if all of them screwed up and the calamity seeds got to raid the village was when a lot of lives were going to get lost.

James shrugged at the remark that Berto made, looking over the uneven terrain that he was so used to hunting near. [b]"While I ain't a man of strategy, seems like maybe ya'll should take the highground and see if you can't lure them into a trap. Though I will say there is plenty of places to hide here. I'd be careful of anything you do. They act like .... I don't know, a smarter wolf pack maybe? That leader of theirs ain't afraid to get into the thick of it, but he ain't so dumb as to be reckless. Still they're still animals, so it shouldn't be hard to outsmart 'em."[/b] He pointed to the left tributary that filtered into the small pool that formed the base of the river. "Up that direction a small way is a small gorge, it leads to the base of the mountain near here, and this water flows off the rock there. We might try and engage them there. It'd force them down a narrow path. Sort of a choke point really." He pointed to the right tributary. "Up that way leads to the rest of the forest and a clearing, nice wide open areas, clear lines of sight in all direction, and there are bushes and the like all around the edge, makes it hard for them to get the drop on anyone." He looked around shortly. "We could stay here of course," He pointed to the stretch of open ground behind and around them. "But we'd need to make our stand here, and as close to the waterline as possible. The rocks in the mouth of this river will make it too difficult to make a stand in the water itself. Overall, I'd favor going to one of those two places...."

James looked quietly around them for a moment, before drawing an arrow from his quiver and knocking it to the string of his longbow. "Course, ain't looking like they want us to get to there now, is it?" One very dangerous thing could be heard in the clearing at the moment. Nothing. The sounds of birds and the din of bugs had ceased. All the noise that was made was the quite roar of the water from the tributaries filtering into the mouth of the river. On the hill between the two tributaries, and right where James' eyes were locked, a small figure was eyeing the group with curiosity and hunger, watching only momentarily before letting loose a howl that echoed throughout the forest.

James backpedaled behind the rest of the group, placing the souls between himself and the enemy, and then drew back his bow, taking aim at the creature. Meanwhile, the small dino got a response, as seven other roars similar to it's own echoed in response in the distance, with one louder and deeper then the rest. It seemed that it's cry had been a call for reinforcements.

The creature was small by looks, around 3.5 feet in height. It's scaly skin was mostly pink, with purple foreclaws, back-stripe, sizeable head-frills like a lizard from behind it's jaws. A cream-colored underbelly was visible in the light offered by the sun filtering through the trees, and it's tail was barbed along the length. A mixture of drool and blood dripped from it's half open mouth, the sign of a fresh kill, unfortunate as such a thing was. It loosed a roar at the group now, and as it roared the frill went from a resting position behind the head, to an all out aggressive display. It was clear that it would attack soon, though it hesitated momentarily, as if waiting for something, giving the initiative to those that would strike first.

~ Action Phase

Savant’s expression would turn cold and serious as he mentioned that the creatures were like an intelligent wolfpack. It was practically his worst fear for this mission to become crystallized.

Upon seeing a creature arrive, as soon as he affirmed that it had indeed spotted them, he prepared and offensive spell and released it with next to no hesitation to it. The creature probably managed to get out it’s attempt of communication prior – however Savant would do his best to cut it short, seeking it a center of mass hit to the best of his perception.

In the event that there was a warning call, things have become grim, if the creature was still alive he hoped that Victorique would take a shot without him saying so: ”We need to run, now.”

”If they are animals, death of one of them should leave them guessing... Unfortunately it might also mean that they'll split up their numbers when they reach this spot. We might run on a second contact sooner than later. Stay hidden, stay on the move. James and Victorique do either of you have anything that could set off a false trail for them to follow?”

Either way, Savant would start running and he’d prefer that the hunter would show the way, else he would just use his radar to pick off a path with the worst possible visibility to enable hiding. Further away from the river. However this direction couldn’t be towards the village. -> So it'd likely be towards the mountain area with the promised chokepoint.

Savant would also analyze the tones in the creatures voice to determine how much information it could have conveyed with it’s call. The more it would appear as a ‘Danger / Prey’ type of call, the better.

Sadly enough, more than half of their team froze while they were on their way towards the river, and they were spotted by the Calamity Seeds before these teammates unfroze. From the options mentioned by James, Victorique had a clear preference. “I'd prefer using a choke point, so that we don't get surrounded.” It'd make it easier to deal with the difference in numbers, and it'd help make sure that the hunter wouldn't be killed by a calamity seed that circled past them.

Action Phase:
If Berto's attack didn't finish the create off, Victorique would follow it up with a Precision Shot aimed at the centre mass of this oversized lizzard. If Berto did manage to kill the creature, she'd merely get a move on. [Precision Shot / Move]

As they were on the move, she'd reply with a simple “No.” as to whether she had something to throw them off their trail. Otherwise she'd follow along with what the leader was saying, for now at least.

The creature, howling as it was, didn't have much time to even react to the two attacks that were suddenly direct it's way, it's stats were simply too low and the range too short to make it feasible [-70 HP]. A shot echoed through the forest and the creature fell, dead. The howl was somewhat cut off, but the response was still the same, the creature's packmates were coming.

James barely had time to react on his own as his two allies snapped off two attacks, killing the creature and impressing him. They were fast, and excellent attackers, as evidenced by the carcass lying on the ground. The question was quick, asking if he had something to make a false trail for them to follow. James was quick to answer. "No, and i'm certain they'll be on us in minutes once they get here anyways. Follow me, we'll make a run for the gorge!" James set off at a brisk run up the tributary towards the gorge, going at E rank speed, and clearly having an easy time of it. To those with a good enough eye they might recognize he seemed to be holding back for the pair of souls behind him, mindful that they didn't seem as fast as him.

Victorique ended up following James to the gorge, as he was going at around the same speed as them. That said, it seemed like he was having an easier time than Victorique, and she suspected it wasn't merely their size difference. 'That's quite odd...' She had expected this old guy to be slower, but it probably was for the better that she'd been wrong.

Upon arriving at the gorge, she'd see if there was a place from where she could use cover, but without giving up on the ability to look out across the entirety of the gorge. If not, she'd settle for less, preferring the ability to have a good oversight over having good cover. “Do you happen to know if they use any specific types of attacks, like venom, fangs, claws or something at range?” The hunter hadn't mentioned any of it yet, but considering how late he was with regards to sharing that they acted like a wolf pack, she wouldn't be surprised if he had left out other useful information. It was horribly obnoxious, but she'd have to deal with it.

She also had a second question. “You were about to use your bow. What do you use to make it harm calamity seeds? It'd be useful to know, now that it's just the three of us.” She knew that only magic or ethereal enhanced weapons/gear could harm calamity seeds, and she hadn't expected this hunter to be capable of use one of those... Considering his claims about studying the creatures, however, he probably wouldn't be as stupid as to fire a worthless arrow at them. Apparently Victorique had been underestimating him in more than one way.

He'd follow the conversation between Victorique and the Hunter for a while and after Victorique mentioned that it was just the three of them he'd continue: "And how did you manage to get away when you scouted them for the first time."

Berto would continue trying to look up any advantage that the terrain could possibly give them, while waiting for more information.

James was not even winded upon the time they arrived at the gorge, despite the pace being nearly ten minutes worth of solid running. The gorge was easily defended, cut deeply into the rock of the surrounding mountains. Their feet would be wet as they entered the gorge, ankle deep in the water of the tributaries, but rather then cold water it was rather warm, owing to the fact that the sun heated it as it fell down to the collection point. The gorge was around a hundred yards deep, and just wide enough to allow four people to stand shoulder to shoulder. Above them the rock extended up along steep ledges about thirty feet tall. There was no real cover to hide in, but the ground was solid underneath their feet. There were a few questions aimed at James, and he'd answer them one by one. They ain't so special, but they're nasty with their teeth and tails. They'll snap at you if they can, usually they try for the throat, so make sure you keep your neck protected. As for my bow..." He looked at the nearly useless length of wood and with a bit of disdain and discarded the weapon on the ground, drawing a strange sword from his belt instead. It was around the average length and look of a longsword, but it seemed that tiny holes were all over it's surface of the well polished metal. A faint hue of grey drifted off of it as it came from the sheathe, visible by anyone with at least D rank perception. "Me getting ready to attack was mostly just a force of habit. Ain't nothin' serious 'bout it. This sword is the real deal though. It'll cut 'em good enough, uses my prana to cut things." He turned his head to face Berto. "Case ya' didn't notice, i'm fast and nimble, even in my old age. I'm also pretty stealthy when I want to be. Ain't to hard to hide from an animal when you've got enough experience. In any case, they won't be too far behind, so i'd make any preparations you need to."

Victorique hissed at Berto as he copied her Precision Shot. Victorique rolled her eyes a bit when Berto mentioned their odds of survival. Whether he was sarcastic or not, it didn't sound very believe-able. The hunter had more useful things to say, warning them for the calamity seeds' teeth and tails, and about their tendency to aim for the throat. He also admitted that he could hurt them with his sword, which might end up being somewhat useful, although Victorique wondered how he could claim to be experienced with these things yet still make such a stupid mistake as to aim a useless weapon at them.

As for preparations, the lack of cover made Victorique decide to simply hold her ground in the middle, so that she'd be able to dodge left and right if needed. She also checked if the area behind her was 'free', so that she'd be able to use her high recoil shot. With that out of the way, she'd ask her dear leader a question. “It seems like both of us will need to land a hit to bring one of them down. Do you want to team-tag them? You'll shoot one of them first, I'll follow it up with a shot of my own. Alternatively, I can start off by trying to paralyse the alpha, if it shows up with the rest of them.” It'd mean that they could bring one of them down in the span of a phase, for as long as they both got a decent hit on them.

That said, she recalled an important question she had forgotten to ask the hunter. “Or do they have any weak-points we can exploit to bring them down in a single hit?” If these calamity seeds were like the others, they'd be more vulnerable somewhere on their body. If they could exploit that to bring them down, it'd be a huge benefit.

If there was time to ask another question, she'd also bring up something that bugged her. The man seemed more fit than expected, and now he pulled out a sword like that. “Are you a veteran of sorts? These kinds of swords aren't that common, for as far as I'm aware.” It'd explain a fair few things, as normal hunting wouldn't require such a sword.

Action Phase:
Deciding to make the most of their preparation time, Victorique summoned and loaded a paralysing round. She was worried more about their lack of manpower than she was about her prana levels. [Paralysing Round]

James tested the blade with a few swings, as if he hadn't wielded the blade in a long time, but clearly had used it many times before. Satisfied, he took up a two handed grip and then stood in slightly behind Berto and Victorique, holding it in a forward ready. He shrugged at the first question posed by Victorique. "If yer lookin' for a weakspot, you'd be fresh outta luck. I ain't really tried fightin' these things, still, they like to keep their heads low, might make it easier to strike at 'em." He seemed to grin at being called a veteran. "I suppose ya'll could call me a veteran, though I ain't done any of this in a long time. If yer wonderin' if I use this thing all the time, the answer is no." He kept his attention focused on the pass. A deep throaty roar echoed from the forest at the mouth of the gorge, and lumbering foot steps could be heard. Then all at once, six targets entered the pass, charging at D rank speed down the fifty yards that the group had gone into it. Each cried their own roars that were shorter and less aggressive then the one that had been heard before.

As those six charged down the open ground, a massive beast lumbered into the pass at the mouth of the gorge, easily twenty feet tall from feet to head, and almost fourty feet in length. It was similar in looks to the smaller jaggi, minus the exception of more spikes along the tail, and a line of frills that extended along the length of it's spine. It moved at D rank speed, clearly letting the six smaller monsters go first. It roared it's challenge to the three in the gorge.

Berto would pick up the closest Jagni and release a spell-projectile towards it. Using his perception to anticipate their movements, by matching it to the movement rhythm of the enemy. It seemed like Berto was okay with the tag-team strategy, even calling it 'fun' whilst jinxing the mission by predicting a bad scenario to happen... He also said he'd take the front-line (unlike the image suggests, which has Victorique put at the front). The hunter told her he didn't know if they had a weak-spot, but he suggested aiming for the head, as they kept it low. It was a good idea, as the rest of the body would be behind their head in that case, meaning a missed head-shot might still be a solid body-shot. The hunter also admitted to being a veteran, which cleared some things up.

Six smaller calamity seeds soon rushed at them, with a bigger one following behind them. (Considering it's not on the map, I'll assume it's out of range to fire at.)

Reaction Phase:
Berto fired at the 'closest' Jaggi (#4?), but it'd be a waste to paralyse a target that would die in the same hit, so Victorique decided to target the second-closest (#5) with a Precision Shot and her previously loaded Paralyse Round. She'd aim for the head, if it was really keeping it in front of it's body, or for it's torso if it wasn't doing so.

Action Phase:
Whether or not Victorique had successfully paralysed Jaggi #5, she'd finish off the one that Berto hit previously by aiming a Precision Shot at it (aiming for the head if it's in front of it's body, aiming for the torso if it isn't), now that one of the creatures had hopefully been slowed down a phase. She hoped to, somehow, bring as many of these things down before they got to them as she could, mostly by slowing them down.

However, if Berto hadn't been able to hit his target, she'd instead finish off the one she paralysed (or aim for it once more, if she had also missed). Shooting a Precision Shot at #5.

Mid Turn Evaluation
The shots that were fired were all good. Jaggi #4, the closest one, took a hit. Since the Jaggi kept his head low and ran, the creature's head was hit in the process, hitting a critical area, and causing it to drop and vanish as it ran, dead. Jaggi #5 was frozen dead solid as the previously loaded shot hit it in the body. A second follow up shot hit it in the face, as it was no longer moving as well. The follow up hit slammed right into the head, causing 60 damage. The creature would fall over dead and vanish as well.
At the speed the rest were moving, they would now have only one phase before contact occurred.

Another deep throaty roar echoed at the death of it's kin as the Great Jaggi continued it's lumbering charge at a speed so fast it was quite surprising. It moved at C rank speed now, putting on speed to catch up with it's kin as they rushed, moving only a short distance behind them. All four jaggi formed a single file line to shield themselves from the ranged attacks as they charged down the gorge, forcing the two ranged shooters to pick from a limited selection of targets and using each other as cover as they moved.

"That makes two, try to hit to the head, if possible... It looks like they don't like to get hit in the head..." He'd let Victorique know while checking the distance between the creatures. He’d take an aim that would exploit the position that the creatures would take trying to shield each-other. He was content in striking them around the head/throat/upper-chest area depending on what would be the state of the pounce and match the shot with when they’d already leaped to take a stride. Jagi #4 was killed by Berto in a single hit, showing that the head was a weak spot. Their dear team leader, Captain B. Obvious, proceeded to call out that easy to reach conclusion. Victorique needed two shots to kill one of the Jagi's, but their total death-count was still even. She didn't want Berto's KD to surpass hers. For some reason, the creatures started running in a single line, with the big guy coming into sight behind them.

Reaction Phase:
Running in a line and using each-other as cover had one disadvantage. It'd be easier to thin out the numbers. If they'd miss the one upfront, the one behind it might still be hit, or the one behind that one, etc.
If one of the Jaggi's successfully broke the line for the sake of dodging, Victorique would fire a Precision Shot at it, aiming for the head.

If they all stayed in line, and took Berto's hit, Victorique would add a Precision Shot, aiming for the head of the frontrunner.

Action Phase:
If one of the Jaggi's had gotten hit, but if it hadn't died yet (after Berto's two attacks and Victorique's own attack), Victorique would finish it off by aiming a Precision Shot for it's torso (knowing that it would be enough to kill them after having gotten hit once before, with a higher chance of hitting).

If all the Jaggi's that had hit so far had been killed by now, she'd simply aim a Precision Shot at the head of the one closest to them.

Great Jaggi & Jaggi Pack

Health: ???

Action Phase:
Using a sacrificial formation, the line of 4 Jaggis ran on towards Victorique and Berto, unwavering in the face of the shots. But even then, the Jaggi up front(Jaggi#6) wasn't going to let himself get hit in the head too, seeing what had happened to the other Jaggi. Seeing as how he didn't depend on all four limbs to run, the Jaggi managed to avoid a direct headshot by lowering his head while moving his tiny arms as far forward as a dino like him could move them, blocking Berto's headshot which practically incinerated its arms, rendering them useless for a moment from the force of the hit. But the doomed Jaggi managed to still persist in running, until it was inevitably vaporized by Victorique's bullet to the head. (Jaggi#6:-10 Health(CRITICAL, Destroyed))

Unfortunately for the Jaggis, being a CS had its downsides, and they wouldn't be able to count on a dead ally to act as a meat-shield. And since Victorique had thought ahead enough to set up her shot such that the Jaggi behind him would get hit even if she missed, it easily pierced the Jaggi's head and lost only a little bit of power, then sailed over the head of Jaggi#3(who had happened to have his head slightly lower) and then hit Jaggi#2 in the neck.(Jaggi#2:-40 Health)

Due to the Jaggis not being identical clones and varying slightly in height and running patterns, she could not get the double kill in one shot, but the same couldn't be said for the second round of shots. As Jaggi#3 saw the shot go over its head, it realized the problem with this line formation and split up immediately from the remaining Jaggis. Jaggi#1 did the same after seeing the ally in front of it hit. As Jaggi#2 was still trying to run forward after Victorique shot it, and the other Jaggis would be splitting off at angles that inevitably put them slightly farther away, Jaggi 2 would be the closest one to Berto, and therefore both Victorique and the Savant shot at the same enemy. Berto's spell ended up hitting first and killing it off, leaving Victorique's bullet to just hit air. (Jaggi#2:-10 Health(Destroyed)))

Jaggis 3 and 1 would be the last 2 remaining. However, as they got near to the group, where Berto was the one in front, they suddenly split off to the sides, one going after James and the other after Victorique. Jaggi#3 rushed to stab Victorique in the chest with one of its talons, while Jaggi#1 tried to do the same to James.(Evisceratex2:-?? Stamina) Fortunately, James managed to impale Jaggi#1 in the chest with his glowing sword before it could reach him, resulting in it barely being able to graze his chest with its tiny arms and land a mostly minor scratch in his clothing and body, which wasn't noticably bleeding yet.(Jaggi#1:-20 Health))(James:-6 Health)

As for why the Jaggis split up instead of just ganging up on Berto who was in front, the reason was clear for all to see and hear.

Approaching with incredibly loud stomps that easily shook the ground, its thundering charge would splash water all over the river around it, along with all combatants. The Great Jaggi had caught up to the others by now and was rushing right for Berto, using his vastly greater size to chomp right down on both sides of his torso with a bite that'd tear a normal mortal right in half!(Great Evisceration:-?? Stamina)

Victorique managed to finish off one of the Jaggi's targeted by Berto, after which the bullet continued to pierce another one. She couldn't help herself from forming an ever so slight bit of a smile in the corner of her mouth. That immediately vanished when Berto fell out of line and targeted the same one as her, making it a wasted shot.

Action Phase:
Victorique wasn't granted any time to complain about it, as there was a Jaggi trying to stab her. Considering she had already checked the area behind her, and considering James hadn't moved considerably, she was clear to get away from it using some recoil.

She aimed for the creature's head, which was easier now that it was close enough for an attempt to stab her.

Action Phase:
If Jaggi #3 hadn't died yet, she'd finish it off with a precision shot aimed at it's torso for a higher hit-chance.

If Jaggi #3 had died, she'd see if she could help out James. If he was still facing Jaggi #1, and wasn't fending it off well (such as by taking a lot damage or being unable to counter-attack), she'd move to have a line of fire with minimal risk of friendly fire, and shoot at Jaggi #1, aiming for whichever part of it would optimize the hit-chance with as little risk of friendly fire as possible.

If James had somehow taken care off Jagi #1 or if it was clear that he could handle it on his own, while Jaggi #3 was also down from the previous shot, she'd instead load another paralyse round.

In any scenario, Berto was on his own, for now.

Jaggi#3

Health: 50-??/50
Stamina: ??

After seeing the headshots Victorique had gone for earlier, Jaggi#3 was pretty sure a headshot would come again as it went in to stab her. Even with its D agility, the fact that she aimed for the head again was enough that her recoil shot would mostly just be a minor graze on the Jaggi's talons as the Jaggi ducked under the shot, using its talon it was moving to stab with to block/deflect as it ducked so it wouldn't get headshot.(Jaggi#3:-10 Health)

However as it ducked its head to dodge then looked up again after hearing the big BANG from her shot passing over its head, it was very surprised to see how she'd gone a while away down the river. How'd she do that?

Either way, the Jaggi knew it definitely needed to go in for the kill fast, and not let more of those scary round things that'd pierced the other Jaggis hit it too easily. The Jaggi rushed forward again as fast as it could, but this time it was all on its lonesome and couldn't use the other Jaggis as cover. So it had to adapt a little bit. It started arcing its path so it'd be harder to aim at, and since Victorique's post didn't say anything about how she'd react to its movement patterns, she'd shoot before it got so close that it'd be guaranteed to hit. Unfortunately, the Jaggi's not so high Agility compared to her Perception and aiming for a body shot, and the Jaggi's relatively frail HP, combined with the damage it had just taken, just meant its efforts were all for nothing here, and its attempt to do another evasion guard as it approached didn't manage to evade the attack, allowing Victorique to finish it off with her AP precision shot.(Jaggi#3:-40 Health(Destroyed))

The plan was to dashdance->Shorthop->Down-air, but Jaggis are too frail. Feels bad man.

Jaggi#1

Health: 50-??/50

Jaggi#1 wasn't having a much better time than Jaggi#3. Before it could do anything after its last swipe, James kicked it off his sword, sending it tumbling into the water.(Jaggi#3:-10 Health) Its opponent had so much more attack range than it did...How unfair. At least this one could only attack from so far away, unlike the other two. The boss could take care of the other one, so all it had to do right now was survive for a second or two until they could tear this big clawed enemy apart together.. It decided that turning its back to James to help the boss chew its enemy up faster wasn't a bright idea right now. Aiming to not get rekt by ranged attacks like so many other Jaggis, the Jaggi made sure to keep James constantly between it and Victorique's line of fire, so she was unable to shoot projectiles at it, not that she chose to anyways as it'd seem to her that James was doing fine handling it on his own. James wasn't taking the initiative to actively pursue it after kicking it away, so the Jaggi waited a little bit. The Jaggi didn't bother thinking about the one being attacked by the boss ever possibly aiming at it, as surely, the boss would chew any enemy up in one hit, right?

Great Jaggi

Health: ???-32
Stamina: ???-??
Status Effects: None

The Great Jaggi didn't find things to go as easy as it thought, most of the force of its mighty bite being used up in chewing through some obstacle, leading it to not chew that far into the prey with its first bite.(Absolute Defense Territory:-20 Durability+5 Damage negated(Destroyed) )(The Savant:-30 Health)

As a result, the Savant had a chance to use his Recovery Protocol and regen a little bit of prana, but seeing as how this action still left him right next to the enemy and didn't disturb the Great Jaggi in any way, he'd have to Parry in his AP against the next big chomp. After the first bite hadn't left its jaw in perfect shape, the Great Jaggi didn't feel like repeating the same action. So, instead of chomping again, he reared back one of his massive talons to stab right at Berto's chest!(Great Eviscieration:-?? Stamina)

Just before being hit, Berto blasted the Great Jaggi straight in the head with his Spell Sequence. Unfortunately, it wasn't anything it couldn't endure.(Great Jaggi:-32 Health)

Berto would once again activate his barrier as stated in his ap, which at least mitigated some of the damage, preventing the stab from going all the way through his body, as it then pushed him back 3 or 4 meters along the ground.(Absolute Defense Territory:-20 Durability+5 Damage negated(Destroyed) )(The Savant:-30 Health)

Action Phase:
Great Jaggi:
The Great Jaggi wasn't done yet, and was confident it would finally chomp its prey in two with its almighty jaw, so it charged forward again at Berto, dashing in to go for another massive chomp!(Great Evisceration:-?? Stamina)

Jaggi#1:

Using James effectively as its meatshield(James being a few meters away, out of direct sword reach), it kept a close eye on him and Victorique, who hopefully couldn't see it while James was in the way, making sure to keep him in the way, while waiting for him to make a move. Talons ready to cross off against his pesky glowing sword if he attacked, while the bloodthirsty Jaggi had to restrain itself from just futilely leaping at its tasty looking prey again. He definitely looked a lot meatier than the other ones, especially the midget.

James:

They'd gotten off to a pretty good start, with the open river allowing them to snipe quite a few of these monsters before they could get close, but now the threat was ramping up. The one on point looked like he was in real bad straits. For now he just needed to keep the others aware of what was going on. "I got this one covered, you can both focus on takin' out that big lizard fellow!" For now James just prepared his attacking stance and looked for his opening to take out this pesky dino he was facing off with in one decisive strike.

It had taken her two shots to deal with the Jaggi that was coming at her, which was far from ideal. It also seemed like, whether she wanted to believe it or not, the other Jaggi was keeping James in her line of sight on purpose. Luckily enough, James shouted that he could take it, which she hoped wasn't a lie.

Reaction Phase:
“I'll paralyse the big one!” Victorique decided to shout it out, making it clear that Berto shouldn't die to it before that. If he wanted to be the leader here, it was the least he could do.

As she shouted it, she loaded a Paralysing Round. [Paralysing Round]

Action Phase:
Having loaded the Paralysing Round, she fired it at the Great Jaggi. She'd move to keep Berto and James out of her line of fire if needed, and although the Great Jaggi was quite a big target, she decided to aim for the torso (as its head was moving towards Berto) to have a better chance at a solid hit, using a Precision Shot to fire the Paralysing Round at it. Great Jaggi:

After it pushed its enemy away with its powerful stab, the enemy was starting to run. Now this was more like it. It went for its mighty chomp, which due to its C speed and relatively close distance, attacking earlier, Victorique having to load a paralyzing round first, and Victorique sending herself a good distance away from the others, would happen before Victorique could paralyze it. Fortunately, Berto's auto-barrier barely saved him from death and gave the Great Jaggi another uncomfortable taste of metal and energy.(The Savant:-24 Health))((Absolute Defense Territory:Destroyed)But this time, it was prepared for biting a barrier, and now was going to unleash a wombo combo! It threw Berto into the air with its mighty jaw and strength after getting through that annoying barrier, and was ready to deal an undodgable finishing talon stab to the helpless airborne target! GIGA.....TALON....BREAKKKEERRRRRR!

But then it felt a sudden pain to the torso and couldn't move its body one bit.(Great Jaggi:-32 Health)All it could do was unleash a massive roar in rage that practically shook the battlefield!

"I killed that one, I'll try an' flank the big one now!"

Great Jaggi:

The Great Jaggi quickly broke free of its paralysis. Even seeing the prey that it had tried so hard to tear up stubbornly get up didn't phase it from its rage at Victorique. Berto had survived, meaning he was meeting the minimum demands to remain the leader (such as being alive). Meanwhile, James had actually defeated a Jaggi, and went after the big one. That was quite a surprise, and Victorique couldn't help herself from wondering whether or not he was just rushing to his death here. That said, she had bigger issues to worry about.

Reaction Phase:
The Great Jaggi that was rushing her way, was definitely one of those bigger issues. It seemed like her successful paralysing had managed to piss it off. Of course the heavily armoured Victorique could easily tank this. Victorique absolutely hated pain, with a passion that shouldn't be underestimated. However... She knew that using another High Recoil Shot would corner her, as she'd end up with her back against the tributary downpour. The +- 91 meter tall gorge walls didn't provide her any escape routes either.

So, there was only one option. Take the hit. She braced herself as she quickly summoned and loaded another Paralyse Round, which she would try to finish doing before it impaled her, or otherwise finish the moment she recovered enough from the pain of being hit. In either case... “FUCK!!!” Would soon echo through the gorge, resulting in the walls screaming 'fuck' back at them, as Victorique got impaled by the creatures talon, feeling like her body was being pierced all the way through.

One way or another, she would blame this on Berto. For now, she'd need to get off of its talon and away from this thing. [Paralysing Round]

Action Phase:
Being scooped up with the stab, she'd be able to sent a High Recoil Shot downwards at the creature. If possible, depending on how far up and above its head she'd been scooped, she'd try to aim it at the creatures head in such a way that bending over forwards (so she'd hang upside down) would end up having her recoil back over to the creature, towards the other side.

If that wasn't possible, she'd try to shoot at its head in such a way that she'd go mostly up, and not as far back, in order to avoid ending up in the waterfall. In either scenario, she'd use the remainder of the time, during which the creature was paralysed, to land and get ready for the next move. [High Recoil Shot]

Reaction Phase:

It had finally skewered that pesky midget, which made the midget shout something. However James's sneak attack wasn't so sneaky to the Great Jaggi. His enhanced smell let him know it was coming. And with how far the Great Jaggi could jump, it was rather easy to evade that, hopping 5m to the side with agility that was unusual for its size while still having Victorique impaled on its talon as James almost got near him and had nothing to swing at. If James had been faster he could've pursued after this pre emptive evasion and still gone for an attack, but he just wasn't running fast enough to do so, allowing the Great Jaggi to avoid taking any damage from him.(Evade)

This happened around when Victorique was loading her paralyzing round.

After that the Great Jaggi was going to deal the finishing blow, chomping the midget's head and her whole upper body off. But things went a lot different than it expected. For one thing, after the midget was shouting in pain she was still able to shoot him, even with a giant hole in her chest! Paralyzing the Great Jaggi. And since the Jaggi's HP had been somewhat reduced already, it really felt the pain from this one, releasing an even more eardrum-bursting roar!(Great Jaggi:-32 Health and Paralyzed) (Great Evisceration Canceled)

It knew she could do that, but it had been on guard for an incoming bullet to dodge as it approached, not after it had already impaled her, at which point it hadn't even dreamed she'd even be able to do anything after having her torso pierced straight through. It just wasn't used to fighting SOULs yet. Meanwhile, incredibly, it felt the familiar hot micro explosion of the glowy thing that had hit it earlier. (Great Jaggi:-32 Health)Truly these enemies were way too resilient. Inhuman even. And even though the Great Jaggi trusted in its bulk things were getting dangerous. James took this paralysis as an opportunity to back up slightly so he wouldn't be so close to the Great Jaggi's tail.

Victorique's Recoil Shot had made her fly a bit up and back, mostly not going that far backwards, and not getting to go so she was on the other side of where the Great Jaggi was like she wanted.

Action Phase:

The Great Jaggi would then have to turn around to go after Berto, sweeping its tail as it turned, but encountering no resistance. It could smell the unbelievably still-fighting target hiding behind some rock while the one that had chased it earlier wasn't directly in the way of the path to Berto. Due to still having gotten to take an action(although not all of the actions it wanted to) in the last phase when it was paralyzed it'd be slightly slower to get going this phase than normal. But once it did, it'd go straight for Berto. Rushing with his full speed he went for the kill. If Berto was really hiding fully behind cover without looking, hoping to be hidden from sight, this'd actually be bad news against something that could easily detect his location anyways through enhanced smell, as he wouldn't know that the Great Jaggi was going after him and not James. James realized this as the Great Jaggi was charging past him and would try to warn Berto he was about to be attacked."Watch out!"

The Great Jaggi kept its forward momentum as it leaped slightly into the air, only as much as it needed to to get over the rock, and would land right on top of where Berto was, chomping at him once more to finally eat him!(Great Evisceration)

Assuming that had worked, the Great Jaggi would quickly turn around so the others couldn't shoot it in the back, using its fast reflexes and recovery to be ready to dodge a surprise attack if it had to.

James wasn't really able to rush after it again, seeing that it had already evaded him last time, if he did it again it probably would not be so good of an idea, even if that meant he couldn't really help the automaton at this point.

Victorique wasn't doing great, after having experienced what it's like to become a spit-roast. Luckily enough, she'd been able to get off of the creatures talon with a high recoil shot, although she didn't land where she intended. The creature stopped trying to attack her, and went after Berto again, which meant that she was somehow saved, for now at least.

Reaction Phase:
Victorique's options were very limited, with her health, prana and stamina starting to run out. She shortly contemplated paralysing the creature again, but she decided not to do so. It'd take too long, as Berto would likely be killed before she'd hit it with such a round. Right now, the best she could do was to hurt the creature as much as she could, while it was distracted. That's why she sent a Precision Shot its way. Considering its slower start, she'd most likely be able to hit it while it was still heading towards Berto, if needed, she'd be firing whilst still in the air.

Furthermore, it didn't look more hurt than normal from getting hit in the head, so it seemed like only the smaller ones were weak to head-shots. That's why she would aim for the middle of its back (somewhere between its shoulders due to its built), where the hit-change was the highest. [Precision Shot]

Action Phase:
If the Great Jaggi was still distracted by Berto, she'd aim a Precision Shot for the same spot between the shoulders once more. (If that wasn't possible, she'd aim for whatever was most in sight and least moving for the highest hit-chance). [1 Precision Shot]

If it had already turned around, being ready to dodge, she'd instead quickly load another Paralysing Round, so that she could fire it the moment it would head back towards her. [2 Paralysing Round]

Reaction Phase:

Unfortunately the tactic that the great jaggi had chosen, did not anticipate the marvels of modern technology. And it fell to Savant's trap.

When the creature made a full turn-around there were only two options. And as the creature leaped in for a kill, it was obvious it was not going to flee. Yet the creature could not escape the automaton’s monitoring technique. Regular firepower was not going to cut it so as the creature was about to leap in, Berto stepped out on the open and released a spell with a different composition than his previous ones at the creature before it could land to the ground and finish it's maneuver. The knockback should completely ruin the creatures plans of quickly finishing off the automaton and then turning around. Berto would try to aim the shot so that the creature would be knocked back towards Victorique and that it'd remain airborne for the full length of the knockback backwards.

Great Jaggi & Jaggi Pack

Reaction Phase:

Unfortunately for Berto, his knockback augment just wasn't as good as any dedicated knockback skill would be here. With the minimal distance it would send a normal human, the Great Jaggi's large weight, its momentum from running and jumping, and the fact that it was now falling towards Berto when he shot the attack(instead of shooting it earlier while it was still running), having all its weight behind it augmented by gravity, Berto wouldn't be able to send it flying away. It reduced the force of the bite a little bit, but unfortunately he was too low on health for that to be enough.

(Great Jaggi:[color=red-24 Health[/color])(Berto:-16 Health, Incapacitated)

In that timeframe Victorique got another free shot on it. (Great Jaggi:-32 Health)It turned around after that, so she'd load a Paralyzing Round in AP. Meanwhile James wasn't moving up close and was instead moving so he was closer to Victorique and they could coordinate better.

The Great Jaggi didn't exactly know what SOULs were, or that they could be resurrected. But it didn't really need to understand, all it knew as it chewed up Berto was it had finally killed the enemy that had been harassing it so long and now all its enemies were in front of it. Meanwhle it'd gotten just a little bit of Prana out of eating him, finally getting ssomething worth eating. Except it didn't use Prana anyways, so it actually couldn't get any benefit at all out of that for this fight.
(Attackx1:-5 Stamina(The Savant:Defeated)

Its instincts told it that the tiny one should have been weak, but she was paradoxically dangerous.

Action Phase:

So, the wounded and angry Great Jaggi resorted to the weapon it hadn't had the opportunity to use earlier while the Jaggis were still alive and in the way. Running towards Victorique, it built up some forwards momentum with running.

It wasn't incredibly accurate, but it didn't need to be. It knew she had ranged attacks that could stop it, so resorting to its own ranged attack would give it a chance to use its fast reactions against her to avoid her attack a lot better than it could if it went immediately into melee and had a similar problem as it ran into earlier. If she shot at it before it got to its desired shooting range, it'd turn this phase into a Counter and attempt to evade her shot with a jump to the side, before unleashing its attack after moving a little further if needed.

If Victorique for whatever reason decided to move towards the Great Jaggi as it was running at her, it'd still unleash its attack, aiming to hit both her and James in all of these scenarios.

Swinging its tail, the Great Jaggi released all of the numerous spikes on its tail in a shrapnel like barrage, sending lots of shards at everything within an area of effect of about 10 meters distance forwards from the Great Jaggi, with both James and Victorique inside its range .(Spine Storm:-20 Stamina

James had thought it'd run close after Victorique, giving him a chance to flank when she rather easily paralyzed it again. Since Victorique was the main target, being more at the sweet spot of the cone AOE(at the center of it horizontally and not being far enough away that it'd be easy to evade backwards) it'd be somewhat easier for him to evade the attack, with his own position being a good deal more towards the side of the ravine than the middle, and a lot closer to the Great Jaggi, which made evading a cone aoe easier. Even so, he had to react pretty suddenly, so his c speed leap forwards and diagonally to the side that exploited the weakness of cone aoes at nearer ranges still wasn't enough to prevent him from getting his legs grazed by some of the spikes. (James:-?? Health)

After the spine storm, if Victorique looked at the Great Jaggi's tail she'd see that about half of the spikes on it were now gone.

Victorique watched as her dear team leader got chomped out of existence, which meant that she didn't have to hear his remarks. Instead, she got to hit the Great Jaggi again, and loaded a Paralysing Round.

Reaction Phase:
Victorique remembered how agile the creature was from when it jumped away from James, so she decided to hold off shooting at it until just the right moment. She expected that moment to be whenever the creature would be in close range, but it (surprisingly) happened before that.

The moment the creature seemed to stop rushing at her and/or slow down in order to release its Spine Storm (or just when it did that in general), she shot at it with a Precision Shot and her Paralysing Round. Neither its head nor its back seemed to be weak-spots, so she once more aimed for the part with the highest hit-chance, depending on how it was swinging its tail (if vertically, it'd be bowing over with its back on full display, making that the easier target, if horizontally, either its side or its chest would be the easiest target, depending on much much it'd turn its body along with its tail). [Precision Shot + previously loaded Paralysing Round]

This, of course, did mean that she'd get hit by the full brunt of the spine storm. It wasn't as bad as the previous time she got hit, so this time around she managed to grit her teeth and take it.

Action Phase:
Deciding to try to make the most of the paralyse, Victorique would immediately follow it up with another Precision Shot. Depending on how it was paralysed, she'd try to hit it in the chest (if that was exposed) or otherwise the back and/or side. Whichever exposed part had the highest hit-chance. [Precision Shot]

Great Jaggi

Health: ???-???
Stamina: ???-??

Reaction Phase:

The Great Jaggi had been pretty sure that after the major hit she took before, that midget had to be nearly dead by now. So as it made a great swing to finally wipe out these prey by putting them full of holes, and get some food to make up for its now numerous wounds, it couldn't believe that she was still shooting it. This was its last-ditch effort too. So as it swung its tail to the side, releasing the spikes, and saw the bullet come at around its torso area, it used its rapid recovery and reflexes to lean its upper body forwards as fast as it could, going in the same direction as the momentum of its swinging tail motion , even if that risked it falling forwards on its tiny arms. Sadly, it just wasn't flexible, fast, or small enough to do this in time after not expecting the bullet, and ended up getting pierced through the torso and paralyzed while it was off balance, falling to the ground. With a bullet now having gone through where the ethereal energy simulating one of its lungs were, and it being so low on health that its entire stability as an energy structure was nearly at the point of collapse, it couldn't even roar in rage that loudly as it hit the river, making a massive thud from its weight and splashing tons of water as its whole upper body hit the river.

James didn't let the chance go to waste, getting up quick and rushing over to the Great Jaggi to stab it in the side, near its tail, while Victorique shot the torso from the side, with James making sure to time his stab so it wasn't too soon before her second bullet, and the Great Jaggi wouldn't be able to make a last desperate attempt to recover. Just after James stabbed it in the abdomen(Great Jaggi:-20 Health), making it gasp for air and give one last blood-curdling roar, Victorique's bullet pierced right through its side from just below one shoulder to around where the other one was, leaving it motionless.(Great Jaggi:-32 Health(DEAD)) And a few seconds later, the unmoving corpse of the dinosaur vanished into nothingness, freeing part of the river from having to flow over and around it.

The Savant was dead, in the minimal sense that a SOUL could be said to die in the first place, and Victorique was hurt pretty badly, while James had suffered a few cuts and scratches. But despite some losses, a state of calm returned somewhat to the river as it continued flowing normally without all the stomping in it. There were no more Jaggi roars to be heard anywhere in the distance either.

James:

"That looks to be the last of 'em for now. Too bad I couldn't save your friend there, but you two did pretty well. That said, we got pretty lucky with these lizards. Half the people on your team froze up into statues after all, and we were lucky enough that the rest of the Jaggis didn't come with the big one's group. They're probably out in the clearing i mentioned earlier, waiting for it to come back. There should be about four of 'em, so if you're too low on Prana, we're going to need to wait a bit." He hadn't expected to need any potions, so she'd just have to regen the normal way, it was a good thing she was a Halfling.

Possibly after responding to something Victorique would say, James would need to take a call talking to the Astraea mission navigator.
"James here. We managed to kill the big one, and the six Jaggis that were with it. Did any of 'em find the village while i was gone?"
"No, we weren't notified of any village scout spotting one. "
"In that case, we'll move on to checking that the portal is still closed."
"That is fine, just be sure to prepare yourself in case you encounter more enemies. That's all for now."
"Roger that, will do. I won't let any of 'em get the drop on us. James out."

It seemed like things were at least in a few ways according to plan, so once Victorique would be ready to move out they'd head out to the clearing, leaving the area. Whether she wanted to do anything like talk to him, talk to her recently-dead friend over the COMB, or anything else, as long as that wasn't to get started walking before she'd finish regening her prana, if that happened he'd have to explain that the CS might smell them early that way.

To Victorique's surprise, the Great Jaggi fell down in a rather spectacular way. She was glad the blasted creature was finally brought down, as she didn't think she could've kept things up much longer. She was still catching her breath when James commented on it. “I'll only need a moment.” She'd need a fairly long moment, but that wasn't something worth acknowledging.

It seemed like James was quick to call Astraea, which was nice, considering it meant that she didn't have to do it herself. Assuming her perception would be enough to pick up on the other end of the line, she'd also learn that the village was still safe. That meant she'd kept her end of the deal, now she could go and investigate that portal. 'I'll finally get to do what I came here for. Let's hope it's worth getting nearly stabbed to death for.'

She didn't have much to say for now, and she didn't bother informing Berto, she'd leave the area after having having been able to catch her breath (and prana).
