felt like a lot was shown but at the same time i'm like there's still 10 or so episodes left so i'm curious to how much of the puzzle is missing, so far it hasn't been mind fucking me but just leaves me feeling like there's still a lot they haven't revealed to us.

This gave so much more info and made the show way more exciting than the first episode, now I get why they released two episodes back to back.
I think the events are jumping from past to present and that could be confusing to some people but you'll probably get used to it soon, personally I don't mind this kind of transition and I can wrap my head around it some what easily but it can get really annoying if it's not executed correctly, I'm probably worrying too much about it since this IS Mad house after all but it's still concerning.

Hmm well, didn't do much to assuage my criticisms of the first episode and now it's an exposition fest on top of that. It seems like they're trying to pull off the original disjointed, non-chronological narrative but either have no idea how to do it or are afraid of confusing the viewers.

This lack of a backbone is one of those things I can't stand about 95% of newer anime; yah, there are some kids who will call it trash because it's too complicated, but it's either that or you just make another mediocre gimmick show with it's only redeeming feature being the amazing original source it has to work with.

But hey, for me at least, there's yuri. Kind of. Manticore alien yuri kisses; so hot *sarcastic fangirling*. Whatevs, I'll be following the show for sure, but my expectations are medium-low at best.

It seems interesting, but also confusing at first. I think it's going to be an anime I need to watch a second time after I finished watching it.

A lot of the confusion is due to the character designs, imho. It took a while until I relized that the guy from episode 2 isn't the same guy as the one from episode 1. Also the black haired girls looked very similar to each other, it'll probably need some episodes to get used to it.

The girls you can tell apart by either height or glasses. Male character design is almost the same.

Done watching both episodes. This was the anime I was hyped for the most this season.

I went in completely blind, having only seen the promotional trailer.

My expections were high, and while I'm not blown away like I was hoping, its still interesting. I think I will finish this one at least. I dont mind the animation as much but I do hope it gets better, something more like what the promo trailer showed (though i saw some boogiepop fans comment the trailer was a bit misleading to what the show was actually gonna be like)

I didnt expect us to find out so quickly who the monster in the school was. I thought that would be the main mystery but I guess the story is going in a different direction.

I like the non-linear story-telling because it's fun trying to piece it all together. The first two episodes felt like they were over in a few minutes.

I thought Takeda would be on of the MCs but he's not listed as one. Was he only there to introduce Boogiepop to us?

they keep brushing schoolgirls disappearing as something normal or unimportant. where I'm from if a minor disappears and the police are alerted they are required to conduct an official search for the missing person. some of the girls have been missing for days - is the show trying to tell us that even their parents don't care enough to go to the police? I don't buy it - immersion broken.

OK, I know it's standard practice to adapt LNs with 3 episodes per book, but this is way too rushed. It seems they only could fit the plot of the first novel into the first 3 eps by cutting out all the themes, characterization and even two entire characters.

This also would benefit from some stylistic device to indicate that we flashed forward or backwards (like the sound in that show LOST for example, or the timestamps from Concrete Revolutio). In the novel there is no confusion, a new chapter might switch the POV character and flash back in time, but there are no flashbacks in the middle of chapters. If they put more then one chapter into one episode they need to communicate the breaks somehow.

They also kept cutting back and forth between the stories of glasses girl and psycho boy, which made it even more unnecessarily confusing.

Having a bit of trouble telling some of the characters apart at the moment- it might just be because so many got introduced all at once, but I'm not sure the designs are distinct enough either. It took me a bit to realize the brown-haired guy helping the manticore was not the same brown-haired guy who talked to Boogiepop.

...I gotta learn some names too.

Otherwise, it was pretty intriguing. It's got an awesome soundtrack, for sure. I'm a little worried about the animation, but it wasn't bad enough to put me off entirely if the story continues to pull me in.
Yeah, the character designs are very basic and hard to tell them apart. Some scenes are very dark as well. Not dark as scary, but dark as in I can’t see what’s going on. With the similar character designs that makes it even harder to tell who is who. Towards the end of the second episode I finally started to be able to tell them apart.

The girls who disappeared do not have a big reputation. Also, if they report this to the police it hurts the school's image. If the school or teachers can hide it, they will. The anime might have not hinted it enough.

but they have parents, right? right? parents who would be losing their shit on day 2 of their children vanishing and neither the school nor their friends knowing where they went, and having no history of rebellious behaviour?

Yeah well the world they live in is like that. At the beginning as well you see Boogiepop helping Echoes whereas other people would rather not care

(The girls who disappeared so far either took the drug or they have divorced parents or w/e)

I didn't interpret it as "not caring", but rather as elementary self-preservation because the guy looked dirty and sick, so trying to help him could put the helper in danger. that's why there are emergency services - they sign up and get paid to risk their lives for others. besides, he didn't look like he was in any immediate danger.
to add to the missing persons thing - in Japan children are, culturally, extremely important due to the ageing population and each child is a national treasure. this nonchalant attitude towards missing children is not only unrealistic in regards to people in general, but to Japan specifically. this wouldn't be a problem if Boogiepop wasn't set in Japan, but it tries specifically to establish that it happens in a world identical to ours. hence, immersion broken.

Ya i think the First Volume is kinda rushed some Important Dialog scenes are missing thats why for many people the Story in at the beginnig very confusing. also it's more difficult to recognize the relationships between the characters and the characters themselves don't have that much depth yet.

I think the first volume was especially hard to adapt thats why they rushed it in the anime very fast. Probably the next volumes will be edited more extensively because these action are richer and not so dialogue heavy... They are easy to adapt. At least I hope so.

So just look optimistically at the anime :3

I will probably only watch the anime when all episodes are out so that I don't get stuck on the story.

After re-watching the episodes and looking at a review on YouTube, I'd say i have a good understanding what's going on. But, I have no idea what happened to Echo. Where was he when the Manticore killed Kamikishiro? Was he just in the back of the storage room hiding and watching the Manticore kill her?
From my understanding Echo's timeline from the scene in the episodes should be

Escape from lab -> Meet Boogiepop -> Meet Kamikishiro -> She hides him at school -> Kamikishiro gets killed -> Nagi finds him

So shouldn't he be at the storage room when Kamikishiro got killed. Unless the timeline is actually

Escape from lab -> Meet Kamikishiro -> She hides him at school -> He leaves school to look for Manticore -> Meet Boogiepop -> Kamikishiro gets killed -> He returns to the school storage -> Nagi finds him

Or im just overthinking it and Kamikishiro just forgot which school storage she hide Echo in and just went in the wrong one at the wrong time?

I kinda like the anime so far. Granted for the first time I watched ep 2 I didn't understand much of it, but after I read that the storytelling is not linear, then ooooohhh, now it makes much more sense.

I don't understand people complaining about the art/animation. Sure it is not like some of the series with super nice art like for example recently Violet Evergarden and The World in Colors (but usually I am not very fond of these shows, since sure the art is beautiful, but they tend to be super slow and have close to no story).
Boogiepop has this calm, simplistic art, which is sure probably not requires as much effort to make as the forementioned artistic ones, but I wouldn't consider it worse, just a different style.

Anyway, yes, the anime is kinda rushed compared to the light novel (which I didn't read), but I think it is okay, this way they can cover much more than if they just strictly followed the light novel. But yeah, a lot of details are missing, which would make the series easier to understand.

This is why I would recommend Digibro's video to other fellow non-light novel readers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gkY4DXTJyM
I am not advertising, I don't even agree with the video, he says the anime sux, and IMO it is quite good, but he is the only one I found on youtube comparing the anime and the light novel, and he mentions a lot of quite important details which was left out of the anime that helps in understanding what's going on. So I definately would recommend watching it. Idk, maybe he'll do this for further episodes too.

The protagonist from the first episode isn't the same guy that sided with Manicore (the clone), they just look alike because good character design. As to why he sided with the Manicore it's not really clear yet, but he seems to want to use her to "conquer the world" or something along those lines.

I missed Boogiepop in this episode. Not the biggest fan of the first two episodes, although that's to be expected because the mystery is just starting to unfold and I'll be patient to see where this goes, I can see it reaching a good climax in the later episodes. But man, the soundtrack is so fucking great and it gives such a great mood to the series, I love it already.

The first two episodes present an intriguing story that's followed by a good ost. The
downside is that it's really difficult to be able to discern the various characters, so it can be a bit confusing, especially with the time-skips used to develop the story. Well, in the end is one of those shows that make your brain cells work, kinda like when doing a puzzle, so good episodes all things considered.
