Valindral's Marshes As dangerous as they are beautiful. Pretty flowers and treacherous marshes; a combination that lead many careless travelers to their deaths. Furthermore, calamity seed activity is high in this area, and it said that some particularly dangerous Calamity Seeds roam these marshes. The combination of continuously minding your footing and having to fend off powerful monsters made this area as dangerous as it is beautiful. Notice: Various warning signs are placed around the marshes, warning people not to venture into them. |

Intermission As the SOULs entered the area, those who were more cautious would look around in search of foes. Fortunately, there were none to be seen at the moment. The wildlife seemed carefree as the frogs hopped around, the egrets went a-hunting for fish, etc. The only large obstacles to vision were a handful of boulders spread throughout the marsh, likely due to having migrated down from a mountain sometime in the distant past or had been thrown up by some earthquake. The water was somewhat murky, being marsh-water, but from what the SOULs could see, there was nothing obviously threatening. |

Alexander Reinhardt Health:200/200 Prana: 75/150 Stamina: 100/100 Status: Normal STR: C VIT: D WIL: E RES: E SPD: C AGL: E PER: D REC: E Asha said she wasn't the most active with her job, and could take some time off sometimes. Alex smiled a little bit, as he told Asha they would be able to get to their destination."Hopefully you have a nice time off after we've gotten through this, then." They had taken care of the earlier group of CS extremely easily, but Alex was still a bit tense after that battle with Otto, trying to kill him could have been a close fight if it had gone there. Since they were on their way into the marshes, Alex tried to think of a strategy for them to handle the possible CS attacks that could happen. Even if the marshes looked beautiful like Asha said, the CS that showed up and tried to kill them certainly wouldn't make a pretty sight, especially if they managed to kill them. In the meantime he had time to check the text message he had gotten from Guinsoo. Guinsoo wanted to know where he was. Message to Guinsoo: I'm on an escort mission, but to be specific, we're in the Valindral Marshes. It'll be a while before we get back. It looked like Guinsoo at least wasn't frozen, so that was good. Maybe Lyka would be resummoned at some point, it hadn't been that long. Alex was lacking in prana. In fact, it was to the point where Alex wouldn't even be able to summon his armor without wasting too much Prana, he needed to preserve enough so that he could still launch some attacks, and even then would probably still have to attack less often. He couldn't even take as defensive of an approach as normal, as if his sword was destroyed, he would become fully useless at anything other than being a meat shield. Of course, he could just take some of the hits directly, which would be easier now that he was a SOUL and Lucia had fully healed him, but he'd still need to be careful, even with his Order Restoration. Except, he didn't, since they had prana potions, and most likely someone still had one available."Does anyone still have a prana potion? I think I'll need one." There was a good chance whoever had it would be too busy mid battle to toss him a potion easily, so it'd be better to get it now. If someone gave him one, he would drink it, he didn't have much of a reason not to. And was too stingy to buy one himself while saving up for a permanent booster item. They were traveling in pretty open terrain, so they wouldn't need to worry about enemies sneaking up on them most likely, but it would still hinder them a bit. For now as they kept their normal formation Alex just kept on guard and waited for more enemies to show up, being sure to occasionally watch if anything was moving suspiciously in the marsh's waters somehow, like some CS waiting to ambush them. |

Even so, there were many warning signs which meant it was more dangerous than it looked. It was too late to turn back at this point, so they'd have to continue through this last area and deal with whatever enemies awaited them... It was safe for now, but they'd need to be prepared in case that changed. Because of that Alexander asked for a prana potion, probably since he had ended up low on energy like Edward after the battle with Otto. However, Arona didn't feel like helping him and instead offered two potions to Edward while also being overly touchy and weird. He backed off a little from the weird touchiness but he wouldn't object to the potion since he was still a bit tired. "...I'll take them, then. Thank you again." It wasn't like he could make her change her mind about Alexander, so someone might as well use them. Since Arona offered him two potions, he would drink both Small Prana Potions that she gave him, which would restore his prana fully. (+50 Prana) Edward put away the empty potions into his infinite inventory space after that and then went back to his spot in the front of the formation, hearing Arona saying she was worried the rocks would turn into some kind of rock monster like one that she fought in Septima. "I thought rock monsters only existed in myths..." He didn't see any reason to not believe her though with how weird some of these CS were, so he kept looking for any enemies, even if they might look like rocks. They'd have to see which of them was denser. |

It created a pleasant atmosphere which was soon offset by the numerous 'do not enter' signs telling of powerful monsters present here, giving the place an ominous feeling instead. It was a lot more dangerous than it looked... Not everyone seemed to see that though, since Asha was just enjoying the scenery while Arona tried flirting with the barrier knight and then teasing Eukina enough to make her shriek in surprise due to excessive lewd touching. "What was that?" Lucia had to ask, but the embarrassed archer didn't want to answer, so she talked to the lewd lightning mage instead. "We need to stay focused...these signs say there is something very dangerous out here, so whatever it is, we have to be prepared." Lucia warned Arona, but loud enough for the others to hear too, including Asha who she didn't want to be off guard if they were attacked. Whatever was lurking in these marshes was dangerous, and depending on how many there were, they could be in real danger if taken by surprise. Then she continued moving with the rest of the group, staying in the back of their formation along with Celestia and Asha, preparing for a battle that might start at any moment. |

Wearing a light blue T-shirt, black short and short boots. Eukina's reply was unexpected, and made Lysett forget about her own embarassment for a moment; not only didn't she expect Eukina to be into guys like Edward, but she'd barely seen the two of them together at all. Having barely talked to Eukina after the invasion to Yvalia, she seemed to be outdated on at least a few things... For now, though, Lysett said nothing more; it seemed the both of them had enough embarassment for the moment being... Soon enough, the rocky structures were replaced by damp ground and flowery fields. Having been warned beforehand by Celestia about the possible dangers lying in the marsh, Lysett tried to look past the deceptively beautiful scenery and look for any obvious dangers. However, aside from the muddy water and the rocks scattered around, there didn't seem to be any immediate danger aside from getting her clothes dirty; or that would be the case, were not for her elven wings. The group kept a steady advance, with Lysett making sure to stand as close as possible to Asha and Celestia, should there be need for a quick retreat. Arona kept messing with the others in the team, taking her time to advance on Edward and tease Eukina. Somehow, Lysett had the impression that her jokes were going to tick someone off for real in a very near future, and she could only hope it wouldn't end up hampering the mission or their romantic relationships... Meanwhile, she replied to Alex's request by throwing him Medium Prana Potion in a low arc, without leaving her position on the formation. "I've got a spare here, Alexander. Here, catch!" Hovering near them, Lysett also talked to Celestia and Asha. "Celestia's mentioned this place is dangerous, so maybe it'd be poisoned candy or something like that? Please stay close to me and shout if you see notice anything off. Have you been here before, Celestia?" |

Intermission The party continued their trek through the marsh, some messing around while others remained attentive for signs of enemies. That being said, it wasn't the attentive ones who first noticed the danger; it was Arona. Without warning… Arona's right foot suddenly dropped about a foot farther down than she had expected it to, causing her to stumble and lose her balance. Thankfully, it just appeared to be a slight drop in the ground level, perhaps from some current that had once flowed through this section. Arona wouldn't have any trouble getting back up, with or without assistance. A solitary crow could be heard from the top of a nearby boulder, cawing so abruptly that it almost seemed to be laughing at the Elf girl. Some of the egrets joined in, adding their dry croaking sounds to the racket of the crow and the ribbiting of some frogs. Or so it seemed, at least, especially if you were egotistical. Realistically, it was probably just the creatures of the marsh deciding to get louder for a moment for whatever reason. The boulders themselves watched on silently, mocking the stupid Elf who thought that they might be hungry and impatient enough to attack the party. Everyone with half a brain knew rocks practice intermittent fasting. Lucia's Elf magic eyes also didn't detect any danger. The only things she could see with significant life forces were the party themselves (minus Celestia, of course, who was hiding her life force for whatever mysterious and diabolical vampire plot). |

He heard some kind of argument between Eukina and Arona behind him, followed by Eukina squealing for some reason. He turned around to see what was going on, but it stopped soon after that when Lucia told Arona to pay attention and Eukina just asked them to keep moving. So, he just looked ahead and moved on once more while watching for enemies, trying to avoid stepping anywhere where the water was too deep while preparing for the possibility of a battle. |

Alex didn't really hold her to the extreme standard of work he had to do as a knight of Yvalia, since she wasn't in the military. It was important for people to get rest sometimes. While in his case, now that he was a SOUL, he might even be able to go beyond normal human limits of going without sleep, and that was something he'd try to train to do if he had to, but there just wasn't any need for more night missions right now. When Arona said she had many potions, Alex knew where this was going. She didn't want to give them to him. If he was going to be without a potion, he'd just have to deal with it. Arona had already gone off to bother someone else again, so he wouldn't try to talk to her this time. A little while later, Lysett threw him a potion."Thanks." Now he'd be able to fight without worrying about his reserves. Since they could potentially get surprise-attacked, Alex drank the medium prana potion immediately, restoring his prana significantly. Arona had made Eukina respond strangely, but Alex didn't pay enough attention to know what had gone on. He was more focused on what was in front of them. Unfortunately, since he was at the front of the formation along with Edward, that meant he didn't notice Arona stumble, so unless she would tell them about it, he'd have no way to know of this, as he just continued on walking, watching carefully for any enemies. |

It seemed like some of the areas of the water were deeper than others, so they'd have to watch their step. She also said something about fighting rock monsters, which seemed hard to believe, but when there were also giant wolves that somehow had armor and giant piranhas with cannons, it wasn't out of the question. One other thing got her attention which was what Eukina asked: If this area was dangerous even before the monsters appeared, just what was the other threat..? She waited for Celestia to respond, wondering what made this place so dangerous. It would be problematic if they had to deal with CS and some other danger in a row, or even at the same time... |

Wearing a light blue T-shirt, black short and short boots. The group kept walking without any major disturbance, even if the atmosphere was rather grim. Not even Celestia seemed to have much intel on the area, although she knew that apparently CS weren't the only danger lying around... Eukina asked the question on Lysett's mind, though, so she simply listened carefuly even though she knew that any answer would only cause her to be even more wary of her surroundings. "Maybe the forest would've been a better choice after all... Wait, wait, nothing happened yet! Maybe we'll get to cross this one smoothly for once. Yeah, just maybe..." Just as she thought that, a small commotion had Lysett instinctively grabbing Asha's and Celestia's shoulders as she tried to assess the possible danger... only to release them both a moment later, sighing in relief as she noticed that Arona had just fallen after tripping. "Sheesh, that scared me... Sorry, it was nothing after all." |

Intermission The group had come fairly far into the marsh by now; they ought to be getting near Valindral. Further incidents such as Arona's had been avoided during the travels. The animals remained as they were, only disturbed when the party got too close to them but otherwise not caring. Though the scenery was rather beautiful, the periodic interruption of it by boulders and the abundance of mud was a slight detriment. Not long after they passed the largest boulder, though, the SOULs would feel the water tugging on their legs as it flowed back the way they came, as if a large volume had just been removed from the marsh behind them. And but a moment later, the earth could be felt tremoring slightly to accompany the sound of large amounts of splashing water, sending the nearby animals into a panic. Turning around, one would see... It seemed that the largest boulder had chosen this moment to sprout legs and spines and climb up out of the marsh. Well, more likely, the behemoth before them had some sort of ability to conceal itself. After all, it had seemed to just be a standard (yet sizable) boulder before. Lucia hadn't been able to detect any life in it either, but now it was a veritable torrent of health, comparable to the massive amount that Schwarz had possessed (500). The beast towered above the humans, likely near 3 meters tall. Its main body was in the realm of 6 meters long, with its tail adding even more length. The maw that gaped with vicious teeth could easily turn even Alexander with his armor into just a couple mouthfuls. Action Phase: With a mighty bellow, eight legs began to churn through the water as the hulking creature began to lumber towards the party. Though it didn't particularly seem quick at accelerating, it was gradually picking up speed. And as it began to run, the massive tail that swished along behind it lashed up into the air and forward. Just before the tail began to snap back towards its previous position, one of the spines on the tail detached, flying through the air with massive speed in an arc. The likely victim: the one who chose to remain above the marsh rather than in it (Lysett). [CS Innate] Camouflage (SPELL)

Wearing a light blue T-shirt, black short and short boots. Not even Santa and the Christmas spirit would allow them to pass by without being attacked by some sort of giant creature... Things didn't stay quiet for long, though... A massive rumbling sound had Lysett turn around, where a rather scary sight took place: a giant creature emerged from the marshes, imposing in all its size. "Guys... This looks bad, doesn't it?" Even worse, it seemed like Lysett was the tastiest target around, as it didn't waste time in trying to get skewered for a nice late Christmas dinner meal. Reaction Phase As soon as she noticed the creature running at them, Lysett tried to reach for Asha as she prepared to teleport away only to realize she'd already been kidnapped swept by Celestia. The duo ran outside the attack's range, leaving Lysett to die alone escape by herself. While flying backwards, Lysett finished casting Warp Step towards Edward's direction and away from the spike's path. After dodging (or attempting to do so), Lysett would keep flying until she was behind Edward and Alexander, taking a quick breather to discuss strategy. "I don't think everyone on the team can outspeed that thing! I could act as a bait and try to buy you guys a little time, but I'm not sure I can dodge around on this terrain..." If it were a forest instead, Lysett was confident she could manage to divert the thing's attention long enough for the team to move away before making an escape of her own, but the plain terrain would make dodge attempts much more difficult... Action Phase From behind Edward's protection, Lysett would throw a Spatial Rend at the giant creature, while waiting for the team to decide on a course of action; while it could end doing more harm than good by angering the creature, that was the only thing that could be done until they properly decided on what to do. |

Edward quickly moved to be in the front of the group again as he was shocked to see that there indeed was a rock monster, and a huge one. "So they are real..." It had been hard to believe before, but there was no denying what he just saw. It was a very real monster which was probably incredibly powerful considering its size, so he'd have to go all out to stop it. Before it could start its attack, Edward would immediately cast two barriers that would cover their entire group due to their size. If he had the time, he'd also move in the way of the attack which was aimed at Lysett, but hopefully the barriers would at least reduce the damage it did. (Barrier Wall x2: -30 Prana, -24 Stamina) Action Phase: No matter how successful he was, after that he'd prepare to intercept its next attack as well, staying between it and the others and preparing two more barriers to defend against whatever attack it used next. Fortunately, it was not the fastest of creatures, and Alex was quick to act, running towards where Celestia and Asha were as he and Edward would be swapping around to become the new frontline. Around this time, Lucia would hopefully say how much health the enemy had, which would let him estimate quite a bit how powerful it was. He couldn't perfectly tell the trajectory of the projectile, so he mostly focused on defending Celestia and Asha, moving so he would be blocking for them. What this probably meant is since it was actually aimed at Lysett, he wouldn't be in position to block it, and it would either be negated by Edward's barrier spam, or hit Lysett or thin air as she tried to teleport to dodge whatever was left of it that pierced the barriers. After that, Alex took the chance to attack, aiming a Slicing Wave for the monster's chin, as the spiny back looked particularly difficult to damage. He wasn't sure it even had any weak points, but this at least wasn't going to be hitting a more fortified area.(Slicing Wave) Meanwhile, he noticed footsteps running closer behind him and Edward. Action Phase: Afterwards, as his allies started on with attacking, Alex knew this wasn't that good of a situation. It was probably pretty resistant to physical attacks. He had little reason to not keep attacking, so Alex fired off another Slicing Wave, this time at its mouth in case that was a weak point.(Slicing Wave) Celestia wanted to know if they should retreat, but Lysett would have taken minor damage at worst, something Lucia could heal up easily, if she even needed to. Running away wasn't that feasible in a marsh like this, against an enemy that was probably adapted to moving in it. If the enemy turned out to be too impervious to kill, he might consider it, but that would wait on what Lucia reported in response to Arona. He'd respond to Lysett's response."We'd need one of your portals as a head start, but we shouldn't need to run." Alex was expecting their barrage to do quite significant damage to the enemy, especially since Arona and Lysett used purely magical damage against something that looked more resistant to physical blows, but he'd have to wait and see. Unfortunately, his normal combat style might not be too effective against an enemy that had a good chance of breaking his equipment in one hit, but he'd just have to adapt. |

Turning around, Lucia saw that it was like some of the more nightmarish monsters in myths, having eight legs and a huge size as if it was some giant centipede fused with a rock. Whatever it was, it was as gross as it was terrifying, since its life force was strong enough that she couldn't even see it all right away since i'm going to nerf the skill with a request so that she can't see any amount of HP at once... Reaction Phase: Lucia stayed in the back of the formation as usual, not wanting to get near the weird rock monster. It didn't move fast, but launched a spike at surprisingly high speeds towards Lysett. Whether it was Lysett or Edward who got hit, Lucia would quickly heal whoever had taken damage with a beam of light. (Holy Ray: -15 Prana) Action Phase: After that, she'd try something different. Although it was powerful, it was also alone, so if she could hinder its attack they'd have a much better chance. Because of that Lucia fired a beam of blinding light at the creature's face next, attempting to blind it temporarily. (Solar Flare: -15 Prana, -10 Stamina) Arona had asked how effective her attack was, but she couldn't give a good answer just yet since it had so much life energy. "It has so much life force that I can't see it all yet, so I don't know..." However, it did mean the monster had to be very powerful for her to not see it right away. Even if she couldn't tell, with six of them working together they'd hopefully be able to take it down soon enough. |

Edward was brave enough to rush in front of the spine, though he would surely regret it a moment later. The sound of Celestia sprinting off with Asha accompanied the sound of Lysett warping out of the spot, and both were a prelude to the twin shattering sounds emanating from the former positions of Edward's barriers. Given that Lysett had been floating above the marsh and Edward was slightly submerged, the uppermost part of his barriers were what the spine connected with. The sheer kinetic force so high up on his barrier threatened to push Edward off balance, but he was able to hold out. The same couldn't be said for his barriers. Having been rather lacking in power, the barriers didn't even entirely stop the spine from landing with a splash where Lysett had once stood. On top of that, the impact had left Edward's shield arm a bit sore, though not as sore as it would've been had the spine been a direct hit on him. Sometimes, lunch decided to fight. Other times, it chose to flee. This seemed to be one of the groups that just couldn't make up its mind. Some took off in haste, while the others chose to fight. A pity; meals were always better after a chase. Well, perhaps after it finished off the meal of idiots, it would have a snack of the smart ones. Naturally, the stupid ones began to fight. The bland harem protagonist one righted himself and made new blue walls as the others began to launch a few attacks. The one with big wings shot a beam of light at bland before shooting one at Melkar. The blue one with a bow fired two shafts while the armored one two sword waves. The one Melkar had been targeting sent a slash like the armored one's. And the strangely dressed one fired a lightning bolt. Trusting in the toughness of its scales, Melkar focused on defense for a moment as it reared its front pair of legs up to guard against the shots. The shots were of varying power. That being said, only a few of the attacks were even worth Melkar's notice. When it was smaller, many had seen its tough scales and chosen to assault it with magic. But thanks to that, as it evolved into its current majesty, it developed the power to negate puny magic attacks like the ones being hurled at it. It also didn't experience any change in its vision. It was clearly preparing for something, though it could not be said at this point what was being prepared. It probably wouldn't be pleasant, though. Almost all the magic attacks including Lucia's beam were useless in damaging it or hindering its vision, with Arona's bolt being the only exception. It charged up a purple glow as it kept on moving faster, heading towards their group unfazed by the damage. "Our spells are ineffective...only Arona could get through its guard..." Its guard seemed to be too strong, and meanwhile it kept on getting faster as it charged towards them. However, saying that gave someone else an idea. "If frontal attacks with magic won't work, we should try flanking it. Arona, Lysett, try hitting it from the sides or behind!" He wasn't aware that Eukina also used magic for her arrows, though. He also couldn't exactly do a flanking attack himself since someone had to hold the line for the people they were defending, so before he said this Edward moved to tank the hit for Arona, getting hit for some damage by the spike after it broke through two barriers in a row. (Iron Guard: -5 Damage) (Barriers: -30 Durability, destroyed) (Edward: -25 Health) Then he waited for a bit to catch his breath, not wanting to tire out in the middle of the battle. Lucia waited as well, since Edward wasn't hurt enough to need healing yet, and attacking from the front would just be a waste if it was like last time. (Standby: +10 Stamina) Action Phase: Hoping the others would agree to his plan, Edward prepared to cast two more barriers to cover the group in the front. Whatever that purple light was, it was probably something unpleasant, so he needed to at least reduce its power as much as possible. (Barrier Wall x2: -30 Prana, -24 Stamina) Like before, Lucia wouldn't do anything for now, but if someone was hurt by any attacks used by the monster in its next RP if i'm even allowed to do this OOC, she'd use her AP to heal whoever was the most wounded. With them all being ressurectable anyways, they had no reason not to take a little bit of risk in exchange for getting past its guard. Edward had a pretty good idea here, and he didn't have any reason not to stick with it. "I'll keep it busy from the front." Although his attacks probably weren't doing too significant damage, they were having at least some effect, and with some people moving to flank, there still needed to be at least some projectiles coming from the front. Besides, he needed to be in position and ready to assist Edward against whatever the enemy was charging up. First, Alex recovered his breath for a moment.(Standby) Action Phase: Then, Alex waited for everyone else to move. Eukina and others who did no damage earlier would be hitting it with flanking shots, so it'd definitely need to choose among multiple attacks which one it could attempt to block. Of course, if it had turned towards one of them after they shot it in the sides, and was exposing its sides to frontal attack from Alex, he would then aim at the side so that it couldn't guard his attack. But if not, he would inevitably fire a Slicing Wave at its mouth. However, he waited slightly so that if it actually opened its mouth, he could then fire the slicing wave at the orb of energy inside and attempt to thus either destroy or weaken whatever attack it was charging up. If it didn't give him an opening, he would fire at the closed mouth anyways, which would increase the likelihood of that if it opened its mouth to fire as the projectile was coming towards it.(Slicing Wave) |

I think it resists magic, so don't attack when it's facing you! And stop flirting in battle!" She yelled, putting her jealousy aside and running to its left side, despite Edward only telling the other two to go, since Eukina also knew her attacks were magic. With this formation, Lysett could teleport Arona out if the creature attack them, and if the creature attacked Eukina, she could at least be agile enough to distract it for the moment. Hopefully. After running to its flank, Eukina fired another Heavy Shot at it. If it turned with her, Eukina would fire two normal arrows at it, hoping to get its attention and distract it more. Arona winked at the knight protecting her, "Thank you Sir Knight~. You have my gratitude and blessing to ravish me later in bed~!" and having listened to Eukina, moved to its right side, waving as she did so, "Okkaaay!" After reaching its flank, Arona fired a Lightning Bolt at it, or at its front if it turned to face her. If it did turn to face her, Arona would wave at the creature, relying on Lysett to warp her out if push came to shove, if she even went that way, but she would also still fire a Lightning bolt, "Come and get us, tall dark and ugly~." Action Phase: Afterwards, if the creature wasn't facing Eukina, she would fire another Heavy shot at its flank. Otherwise she would prepare to dodge its attacks. The giant CS barely paid any mind to their attacks and instead continued to charge towards them, once again hurling spikes as he closed the distance. The rest of the team also seemed to think fighting was the best option available, but Lysett couldn't shake off the feeling that making a run for the walls would be a safer option. The eerie purple light only served to heighten that feeling, as she followed the plan for the moment being... She'd closely follow Arona, teaming up with Arona to launch attacks at its flank; if the monster turned to attack them, Lysett would also follow the plan and teleport them out of there. Spatial Rend (? + Warp Step ?) Action Phase Lysett kept going with the plan, doing the same thing as before. With Asha voicing her opinion, Lysett decided to add her own concerns in as well. "Yeah, this thing looks like it's strong and we don't have anything to gain from bringing it down... but I'm concerned about involving guards into this as well! I don't know how many guards are at standby there, but if there aren't enough guards and it doesn't stop chasing us, there'll be more lives at risk too... Charging/Charged (Phase 1/?) No map this time. Maybe next. The latest spine from Melkar was actually intercepted by Edward himself this time, rather than just his barriers, resulting in slightly more damage to Edward himself. (Barrier #1: -30 Durability + Destroyed) (Barrier #2: -30 Durability + Destroyed) (Edward: -25 Health) (Start of Turn: +5 Prana, +25 Stamina) Reaction Phase: Melkar continued its rush, just as undaunted by its foes as the less intelligent ones seemed to be of it. Pitiful. That was the only way to describe them. Melkar had consumed more than enough of the humanoids to be able to distinguish some mannerisms among its prey, and these ones were clearly split between those who were confident and those who feared. Such was often the case in those that entered with weapons ready. And as always, it was a shame that those who understood danger would lose their lives alongside their idiot companions. Well, not that Melkar minded the extra food. Ah, one of the usual patterns. After seeing a frontal assault fail, some broke off to try and circle around Melkar's sides, assuming it would be less capable of defending itself. The bow-wielder moved towards Melkar's left alone, while the actually somewhat strong one moved off with the one who was able to disappear and reappear elsewhere. Annoying, yet still pointless. The other five remained put for now, preparing even more of the blue walls. Well, in any case, whose bright idea was it to try and flank something roughly 50 meters away? Even assuming they'd meet roughly in the middle, it would still take some time to change positions, especially when slogging through marsh water. As such, none of the flanking groups had actually succeeded in truly flanking Melkar before they would fire their first shots. Most of their time had been spent moving out horizontally out from Melkar's path, resulting in them firing from about 30-45 degree angles from the horizontal axis of Melkar's head (if this is confusing, ask me, and I'll try to clarify. Boy, wouldn't a map help here?) As such, Melkar was able to keep all of them in its sight (for the moment) as well as extend its front pair of legs out to its sides to intercept the attacks coming in. That did make it unable to guard against the single sword wave from Alexander, though a single unguarded attack from these weaklings was hardly significant anyway. (Melkar: -28 Health) (Melkar: -23 Health) (Melkar: -23 Health) As the SOULs were pouring their hearts and souls into their attacks, Melkar decided to repay their nonexistent blood, sweat, and tears with one of its favorite powers. Its eyes flashed with a pale blue glow momentarily before twin pulses of pale blue magic shot forth from both. The massive waves would sweep past the various projectiles flying forth, small holes appearing in the combined pulse where the SOULs' projectiles had passed through. Despite that, though, when the pulse met with Edward's barriers, it passed through them as if they were no different from the air itself. Person-shaped holes would appear as the wave passed its targets and continued on, somewhat more tattered than when it first was created. All those who had been watching Melkar when the pulse passed around/through them would feel a peculiar sensation. A furious itch broke out all over their body, but no attempt to scratch it would work. After all, their body was already turning to stone. Though it might've felt longer, it was only a split second between the itch appearing and both their vision and consciousness disappearing for a moment. Anyone who had been turned away from Melkar, though, or who had hidden their face behind a physical obstacle, etc. would instead feel as though their weight had astronomically increased, dragging against their protesting muscles as they were slowed considerably. It is possible to have your character react to the magic pulse. Keep in mind, though, that while coincidentally blinking at the right time is theoretically a valid method to block the attack, I'm going to be ignoring any attempts to bypass the attack that are on that level of stupidity. At least put some effort in. And make sure the effort makes sense in character, rather than just being metagaming. (Parry + Petrifying Gaze: -50 Prana, -57 Stamina) [Rank B] Mageproof Scales (TECH)

Though Eukina, Lysett, and Arona were all outside the range of the purple cloud, both knights, the divine, and the civilians would all soon find themselves coated in purple gas. An evil sound followed the cloud from Melkar's maw. Difficult though it was to believe at first, it was unmistakable. Melkar was laughing, not raucously, but more of a deep throaty chortle. After another moment, its lower jaw dropped farther, and it let loose another tremendous roar, loud enough to ripple the nearby water as the sound flooded the marsh. Puny, puny humans. This wasn't even a fight. Plus, there was something different about these people; Melkar was certain of it. Even seeing that enemy charge up its attack, he realized that Celesita and Asha would be safe anyways if they could get through a portal and get far away from any possible attack. And even if there wasn't enough time, it was worth the attempt. Meanwhile, he remained ready to block an incoming projectile laser alongside Edward, being sure Celestia Asha and Lucia could safely hide behind the two of them. Of course, he was behind the barrier, though. Luckily for him, he changed his mind before the enemy released its attack, although it wasn't actualy soon enough to prevent them from getting hit. He didn't automatically know the enemy would fire its attack right away, so for all he knew there was enough time, and no downside to trying either way anyways."Lysett, you need to portal them out! They'll need an escort to the city. It's nullified too many attacks for us to have any certainty of winning at this point." Alex could tell pretty well, even without knowing this enemy's attack he was preparing to block was a gas attack, that it probably wasn't going to be able to attack an enemy 300 meters away. At that point, Celestia and Asha should have enough of a head start to just match its speed(with Celestia carrying Asha) and run to the city which was in sight, getting to the guards before it could fight. She was suddenly embraced by Arona in yet another typical yuri setting as the purple light covered their surroundings, prompting Lysett to immediately use Warp Step to teleport them back to the main group. The light dimmed as Arona let go of Lysett, and Lysett looked around to see the damage. To her surprise, a few teammates were turned to solid stone statues, and the team hastily decided on retreating as fast as possible... however, the tactic didn't sit well with Lysett at all. "I'll get them to safety, but you guys need to retreat as well; no way you'll be sacrificing youselves here! I'll be coming back for you guys, so make sure no one dies!" She hastily grabbed and put away the potions Arona held out, uttering out something about paying her back later as she created one set of portals, putting one entrance besides their feet and throwing the second orb towards the most distant rock she could find in Valindral's general direction. "Asha, Celestia, get in! I'll be putting those down all the way towards Valindral, and we'll reach it in no time! Lucia, you're next, and then I'll go last." As planned, she'd wait and go inside the portal after the others. Unfortunately, there wasn't much she could do about the gas attack: if she was able to see it in time, she'd attempt to hold her breath once she noticed it was poison; however, she'd most likely inhale enough gas to poison her anyway before that happened. Warp Step + Ally (30 Prana + 20 Stamina) Warpgates (25 Prana + 10 Stamina) (Poisoned?) She hated to leave the others behind, and that was clear on her expression, but she needed to at least ensure Celestia and Asha wouldn't be reached by the creature before heading back to get the others out. While working on the second set of portals, she decided to Celestia for a favor after a bit of consideration: "I hate to ask this of you, Celestia, but I guess there's no other way now that it's come down to this... Can you tell me once you're certain you can safely make a run for the wall alongside Asha? I know it's rude to ask this of our client, and of course both your lives are our utmost priority, but I don't want my teammates to die either!..." Warpgates (25 Prana + 10 Stamina) |

Furthermore, some mobile devices may not be able to zoom far enough in sometimes. The two powerful magics unleashed by Melkar respectively swept through and spread out amongst their targets. Eukina, Edward, Alexander, Celestia, and Asha were all affected by the Petrifying Gaze as they described in their posts. Though Lucia cowered behind Celestia in a manner quite unfitting for an escort and her charge, Lucia was not able to perfectly conceal her body behind Celestia, and thus still would be affected by the secondary slowing effect. Arona pivoted to shield Lysett, prompting Lysett to hastily activate her Warp Step ability in a successful(?) effort to escape. Though the activation of the magecraft was rapid, the pulse had still made contact with Arona's back before the warp could be initiated, resulting in Arona being slowed. Lysett, however, narrowly escaped the effect, having disappeared mere nanoseconds before the pulse would've touched her and still being disapparated when the pulse was passing through her destination. The unfortunate side effect of Lysett's effort, though, was that both she and Arona had been transported back to the main group, just in time to receive a cloud of poison gas to the face. Arona was lucky in that she had her barrier to protect her from the gas. Though it would be quite funny if I made it so that Lysett and her teleport couldn't reach Arona through the barrier in the first place. Arona would whip out her Prana Elixirs and ram them into Lysett's body, which Lysett seemed content to be on the receiving end of. Arona then swallowed her own Prana Elixir, though she wouldn't feel any immediate change like she did with potions. Lucia, upon realizing that the purple haze was in her brain poisonous, moved as swiftly as possible through the mud and magic effects to reach Asha and cure her of her poison, but the damage had already been done (literally). Similarly, she cured Edward in short order, but he would suffer from the poison too before being cured. Well, not that he was conscious enough to notice any of the infecting, the pain, or the curing until after the fact. (Everyone sans Eukina, Arona, and Melkar has taken 5% of their Max Health as poison damage. Edward and Asha are now cured of Poison.) Lysett would begin the portal-chain escape, but a quick look was sufficient to tell her that her first idea of aiming for a rock in Valindral's direction wouldn't work out; the nearest one was out of range of a single portal. It also seemed like it'd be difficult to aim for the ground at her portal's max distance. Thus, Lysett opted for making shorter portals that she could open more rapidly and reliably. As she set to work on that, the others had their own matters to attend to. (Start of Turn: +5 Prana, +25 Stamina) Reaction Phase: Out of the corner of its eye, Melkar had seen Arona and Lysett disappear together, as Lysett had earlier. Such magic baffled Melkar; even with its not insignificant combat experience, it could only vaguely remember having seen an ability like that a long time ago. After witnessing it two times in relatively short succession, though, Melkar felt it was starting to have a grasp of what the magic looked like. Well, testing out whether it could strike her despite her disappearing act would have to wait. There were foes right before its eyes: the two knights, Edward decidedly more in its path than Alexander. And the damage from all the blows Melkar was receiving was starting to tick it off. Who were these people, and why could they not accept that they would die here? No matter, Melkar would just channel this frustration in order to produce greater strength. - Attribute Modifier: None - Cost: 13 Prana per activation - Type: Passive - Turn Duration: Permanent - Affinity: Support - Prerequisites: - Limitations: Then again, it might not get the chance it expected to strike at Lysett again. Surprise came again as it saw a strange purple circle appear in the water next to Lysett, and said circle was then hopped into by Lysett, Asha, and Lucia (and presumably, somebody bothered to drag Celestia through too). The four girls popped up a fair distance away, much closer to the city than they had been before. Strange. Well, they could always be hunted later. An arrow struck Melkar's third left leg, having been aimed at its belly but unintentionally blocked from its course by Melkar taking another step. This arrow actually hurt a little, but it was still hardly noteworthy, and far from enough to distract Melkar from its next move. Crushing the unarmored knight in its way would be annoying if those accursed blue barriers stayed up, so Melkar once again lashed its tail up, hurling a spine forward towards Edward with even greater speed than before. Edward would be un-petrified in time to react to the spine, but at the very least his current two barriers would be shattered like so much glass. Another quarrel buried itself in an unspecified body section its left side, generating a similar amount of pain as before. Melkar would deal with that damn archer later. Or perhaps that wouldn't be necessary. For now, its attention remained up front. Due to Arona unintentionally being elsewhere than she originally intended, she has the option to cancel her AP or just fire from the front. Should she choose to fire, Melkar would once again raise its front two legs, both to guard against the shot and to prepare itself for its next action. But Melkar's charge didn't stop there. The king does not stop for a peasant in its way. Edward would receive further pain and battering as he was barreled over by Melkar's body and Trampled under the rest of the great feet. Once it had Trampled over Edward completely, it would travel a few more meters in its current course as it slowed itself back down and began to turn to face back towards the combatants from behind (relative behind, I assume they'll turn around themselves at some point). The above was written in such a manner as I don't personally predict another fate (such as escape) being possible. But go ahead and try it if you like, I don't mind being proven wrong. Alexander Reinhardt Health:190/200 Prana: 85/150 Stamina: 100/100 Status: Poisoned(5% per turn) STR: C VIT: D WIL: E RES: E SPD: C AGL: E PER: D REC: E (Start of turn:+5 Prana(80->85) and +10 Stamina(90->100) Reaction Phase: He'd gone unconscious, and was surrounded with poison gas. By the time he was aware, he saw the Melkar wasn't charging an attack anymore, and was rushing at Edward. He couldn't really help Edward, but Alex had a plan to deal with the new CS quickly and focus it down as much as they realistically could before it could do too much damage."I'll help her and stun the frog, everyone but Edward, attack after I hit it!"Arona had the right idea this time, and her aiming a shot already as the CS landed seemed like it would work out well. As he rushed for the jumping frog, what he did would depend on how quickly he could get near where Eukina was. If he got there before she was going to get flattened, but she'd already jumped out of the way and clearly wasn't going to get hit, he obviously wouldn't move in the way of the attack. If she had jumped out of the way at a timing where he was not already really close to the frog , to the point where jumping would still let him hit and utilize the full force of gravity and his own weight, he'd go at a full sprint and jump around 5m in the air using his running momentum, slamming the flat of his greatsword right into the head of the frog after it impacted the ground with maximum force!(Crushing Strike:-30 Stamina(100->70) If he got there at a timing where her getting out of the way was debatable, and he was close enough to guard for her, he'd just take the minor risk that him guarding might be for nothing if she would have successfully evaded anyways. Estimating that this enemy might have an attack too strong for his guard to take under normal conditions, Alex would guard in a way that'd be best at keeping his sword from breaking before his body did, and was also good at blocking this kind of kinetic attack. Alex would support the blade of his sword from below with his left hand while his right hand held the handle, and use the sword like a staff somewhat in turning the whole length of it into a shield he used against the falling frog. With this guarding method, both of his hands were in contact with both ends of the sword and as a result the force was more evenly distributed between him and his sword, compared to if all he did was hold the sword in front of him, grab the handle and trust in the sword to deal with the impact. And while he did block the attack, he only went as close to the frog as he needed to to guard for Eukina, trying to not let the entire frog's body land on top of him. As he guarded, he would push the frog back so it'd land in front of him rather than landing on top of him and potentially crushing him, hopefully reducing the damage further with this. After he guarded, if he had been successful in preventing his sword from taking too much of the damage of the hit, and it hadn't broken as a result, he'd immediately go for a heavy hit of his own, trying to stun the CS with all his strength.(Parry:Guard+Crushing Strike:-45 Stamina(100->55)) If his sword had broken, he'd still do this same attack after re-summoning his sword(Summonx1:-40 Prana(85->45)). Assuming his sword broke, he'd use his physical strength via his arms to keep the CS off him if needed. If Alex just didn't get to where Eukina was in time to have any chance of guarding the attack for her, he'd still try to stun this opponent, hitting as hard as he could, and assuming the distance was great enough, using a running jump to get the additional downward striking force granted by gravity, but not jumping beyond 5m high so his attack wouldn't be easy to dodge.(Crushing Strike) Meanwhile, in the last scenario where not only did Alex not get there in time to guard, but also was too slow to even reach the frog for a melee attack, he'd use his Slicing Wave in a new way. Dragging his sword along the ground to his side as he ran, once he got close enough that a jump would reach the enemy, he used his running momentum for a leap in the air, releasing a slicing wave of energy with an upwards slash which he performed simultaneously with his leap. As he kept his forward momentum, Alex himself would be going through the air as his Wave rushed towards the frog to cut it in half, going in a trajectory that'd have him land right on top of the frog at a quite similar timing as when the wave hit. Unlike a normal (Wave->run forwards and attack after the Wave) combo, his method of jumping as he released the wave allowed him to keep 100% of his forward momentum from running rather than having to stop himself for a moment after slashing and then start running again after it, making this technique a lot better at hitting simultaneously with your projectile and forcing your opponent to choose what to react to. And since it put him high in the air while his projectile raced near the ground, as he got nearby it'd have to choose what it'd be able to look at too. Of course, he was mindful of Eukina's positioning and made sure there would be no friendly fire with the wave. He also didn't jump overly high beyond 5 meters in the air, since he only needed to jump so high to get a good amount of force boost from gravity, and jumping too high would make his falling attack too easy to react to.(Jump+Slicing Wave:-20 Stamina and -10 Prana) In all scenarios, Alex kept in mind Arona's current position and when and where the lightning bolt she had shot in advance would hit, so his running path didn't lead him into getting friendly-fired by her lightning bolts, and he would try to avoid letting that happen as much as he could. Action Phase: Whether Alex stunned it successfully or not, he'd try to slash at its eyes, or just stab if he couldn't slash both eyes at once. After that, if he didn't hear it make some noise that made it sound really injured, he stabbed at its mouth, trying to pierce the tongue. If he did hear it make a sound like it really got hurt badly, he'd stab at an eye since it'd worked the first time.(Attackx2:-10 Stamina And although even with the stun he was possibly not fast enough to hit again, if he was actually able to do so in this phase, he would of course go for a third attack, either aiming at any crit spot he had now discovered, or just slashing straight down on the head with as much strength as he could.(Attack#3) He could have used another one of his Slicing Waves, but it'd be boring af his melee strikes wouldn't tire him as much while still having similar effectiveness. He was feeling some pain from this poison, although he could endure it for now. It was good that Lucia had gone through that portal. She had surely cured Asha, and hopefully Celestia as a vampire was resistant enough to endure it. Alex would still perform his attacks even if he failed to stun the enemy when he hit, he'd just be more cautious and ready to cancel than otherwise. If the frog actually evaded his Stun, he'd go for a Slicing Wave to hit it as it landed.(Slicing Wave) In the last scenario where he had not gotten close enough last phase and instead used a wave and jumped, he'd land on the enemy with a strong Crushing Strike so Arona could take advantage of the opening.(Crushing Strike) If by the time he was near landing it had already moved so he would not hit, he'd use a Slicing Wave in midair as he fell.(Slicing Wave) |

Things took a turn for the worse when Lysett noticed Celestia hadn't been able to avoid being turned to stone, making Lysett's plan much less likely to succeed. For now, though, she had to make sure to create some distance between them and the ongoing battle. "Lucia, help Asha through the portal, please; I'll bring Celestia in after you two go through!" Despite not being affected by the creature's petrifying gaze, having to carry someone through the portal was still a big effort on its own, and the poison didn't exactly make it any easier on her. "She's heavy... If only we had a bit of nitric acid or something like that..." Lucia had warned them beforehand that her magic wouldn't work on Celestia, making the whole situation even more dire than it already was. With some effort, she managed to bring Celestia through the first set of portals before working on the second one, repeating the same process as before for the next one. "Thanks, Lucia." She quickly thanked Lucia when the Divine cured her of the poison, before going back to portal weaving. Reaction Phase Growing ever more tired from continuously using spells, Lysett knew she would have to take a break soon, but she had to make sure they would cover enough distance to not be caught amidst the battle before she did that. Having the time to do so now that Celestia was unpetrified, Lysett went on with her now retconned request from before. For now, she'd still keep throwing out portals at the maximum possible range. If either Celestia or Asha still weren't in conditions to cross the portals on their own, Lysett would help them through. Warpgates (21 Prana / 10 Stamina) Poison Cured Action Phase If they were close enough to reach the grassland in one more portal jump or if she had a chance to make a specially big jump, Lysett would throw one more set of portals to get them to a slightly safer place, helping them out the same way as before. "Not much more until we reach the city, now..." Warpgate Otherwise, Lysett would call for a quick break in order to restore her Prana. "Wait a moment, please... I need to refill my Prana before we continue. Celestia, I have a spare healing potion here if you need it." She would grab and drink a Regular Prana Potion before holding out a Regular Health Potion, letting Celestia grab it if she wanted to. Prana += 50 |

Edward received the impact from the spine as written in his post, and then rapidly deployed two more barriers. Edward raised his hand, the barriers rising along with it, warding himself against the two massive feet descending down upon him. The by-now familiar of barriers shattering sounded through the area as the feet smashed through the magic protecting Edward. Though Edward's skill with defense allowed him to reduce nearly all of the damage he himself received from these attacks, he couldn't prepare any sort of guard against the trampling that followed. A mortal might've had their entire body ground into little more than a smear in the mud, but Edward was made of sterner stuff, so he escaped with his body relatively intact, if not his dignity. (Edward: -0, -4, -25, -25 Health) Eukina found herself desperately leaping backwards into the air, fleeing from the descending amphibian. As she landed on her back with a splash, a much larger splash sent a small wave of water out from just a couple meters away in her previous position. Had she been slower, she likely would've found herself colliding with the frog in midair, but for now, she had the opportunity to roll back up to her feet and summon her knife with most of the last of her Prana. Lucia continued to cure poison, choosing to favor both herself and Lysett above their actual charge. All the same, the poison would take a toll on those who had been afflicted. (Alexander, Lucia, Lysett, and Celestia have taken 5% of their Max Health as poison damage. Lysett and Lucia are henceforth cured of poison.) (Start of Turn (Melkar): +5 Prana, +25 Stamina) (Start of Turn (Hapaeru): +? Prana, +? Though Edward had clambered back to his feet, he didn't seem to be doing much of anything. Was he only brought along for his blue magic barriers? Melkar felt a moment of pity for the poor bastard who was sentenced to only being used for his skills and then being discarded, much like Waver in F/GO. Well, either way, his not taking action just meant that he wasn't as pressing of a concern. That accursed biribiri was getting out of hand. Melkar once again began to charge forward, but this time it adjusted its course from Edward towards Arona. She ranted and fired yet another burst of lightning towards Melkar, this time aiming for its (right) eye. Melkar didn't bother to try and intercept the bolt with its legs, instead angling its head several degrees downward and lowering its head by a few centimeters as well, allowing the bolt to impact on its sturdy forehead spines instead of against its eye. (Melkar: -35 Health) And by now, Melkar was just about close enough to strike Arona down. But while it was all well and good to just stomp enemies underfoot, this filthy mage deserved worse. The self-same eyes that Arona had just targeted glimmered before releasing the same powerful surge of magic from before, sending out overlapping twin waves of petrifying energy. It hardly mattered whether the mage had been fully petrified, or if she had simply been slowed; she was about to be ground into fairy dust all the same. Melkar finished crossing the last handful of meters, raising its two forelimbs as it had for Edward and bringing them down on the cosplayer, intent on creating Arona mochi to celebrate the new year. It had both the water and the mallets, after all. As the two feet came crashing down, they unexpectedly met resistance just above Arona's actual body. It seemed she had a barrier of her own, somehow. Well, "had" was still the correct tense all the same; the barrier alone wasn't sufficient to block out even these two blows entirely. Further pain would likely come as Melkar continued over Arona's sorry form, crushing her further (though not quite as much as Edward due to Melkar not being up to speed yet). - Cost: None - Type: Passive - Affinity: Offensive. Reaction Phase (Hapaeru): The Hapaeru was somewhat annoyed that its initial prey had escaped its attack, but it had more pressing matters: Arona's Lightning Bolt, and a bold man with a sword. The first was quickly dealt with, all the Hapaeru needed to do to deal with a simple ranged attack such as that was take a (relatively) small hop into the air. A piece of cake for a frog-like entity such as a Hapaeru. That left Alexander to deal with, the knight rushing forward. Alexander could tell that he wasn't going to reach the Hapaeru nearly as quickly as Arona's bolt or as his desires. Thus, he choose door number three: sending a sword wave mostly perpendicular to but still along the ground while he himself took to the air. Sadly, he was not Falco. There's a reason he doesn't prefer the air. The Hapaeru had no objections to answering this challenge as its original prey downed a Stamina Potion. As Alex leapt into the air, the Hapaeru too bunched its leg muscles and sprang towards Alexander. Alex braced himself to deliver a Crushing Blow, but found the Hapaeru launching its tongue forth at high speed. Though not considerable, the Hapaeru's tongue would be slightly longer (based on my estimate of the length of Alondite Luna) as it shot forward not to strike Alex with great force, but to attach with its extremely sticky coating to his torso. Should it connect, Alex would find himself being propelled through the air as the frog twisted its body and whipped its tongue to its left. The tongue would detach from Alex's torso after reaching the end of its trajectory, letting Alex loose to fly off a ways as gravity reclaimed both man and beast. Eukina was by no means forgotten, but the knight appeared to be the greater threat at the moment. Rapidly bounding closer, it would close the distance before making a low short leap forward to crush the knight under the combination of its strength and weight. After the two portals produced in her most recent turn, the group would find it a simple task to take the remaining few steps out of the marsh and make their final approach on Valindral's Walls And as the battle continued to rage, more loud sounds could be heard. Some seemed angry, others hungry, some quick and high-pitched, others low and deep, but they all shared one thing: they were clearly monstrous. Starting from top left going clockwise, there are four new arrivals. The bat sprite is an Illumibee. The tongue had a really surprising amount of force to it, and even though he did his best to deal with getting swung around, the impact of getting thrown at the ground still hurt a bit.(Alex:-?? Health) But apparently, it wasn't going to stop there, and jumped after him pretty quickly. He doubted he'd be able to evade it as well as Eukina had. He'd raise his sword like he planned to earlier, reinforcing the blade with one hand so that the damage would be evenly distributed between him and his sword, and it hopefully wouldn't break, as he pushed forward against the falling frog, not letting it knock him down with its weight. Whether his sword broke or not(if it did, he would resummon), Alex knew now was a good time to retaliate against the clearly fast enemy. Using as much force as he could, Alex swung from right to left with the flat of his sword against the frog, aiming to knock it a few meters back and stun it with the sheer force of the hit.(Crushing Strike) Action Phase: Assuming that worked, Alex would take the opening to run away as mostly everyone else was, taking Eukina's advice."Got it."Alex ran as far upwards as he could, but going a bit diagonally to the left towards where the bee was. After all, that put the Melkar horizontally farther away from him, along with the new CS approachiing from the other side of the map. The hand-face CS would be the main other one besides this frog to get concerned about. Clearly, he needed to pay attention to what happened behind him, so while he was running Alex periodically looked over his shoulder to make sure the frog's movements didn't surprise him, also making full use of his C perception to hear what was going on. If the Frog had Evaded his stun, Alex would still start running away anyways, taking advantage of the interval in which the frog wouldn't be able to immediately counter attack him. In both of those running away scenarios, since Alex saw killing the remaining CS as futile, he had no reason not to use his prana on something else as he ran, which wouldn't slow down his escape at all. Namely, his armor.(Armor of Order:-15 Prana and -10 Health) It'd protect him somewhat decently from a shot in the back just in case his periodic looking over his shoulder wasn't enough. And since his biggest priority was getting away right now, if he happened to see some attack coming, he'd try to evade in advance with a quick jump as soon as possible, turning this phase into a Counter, afterwards continuing to run.(Counter) If Alex's guard didn't work and he got stunned himself(assuming the amount of damage he already blocked wasn't enough to negate too much force for him to be stunned), there'd of course be nothing to do in his RP, but in AP, he would then not just turn his back to an enemy right next to him. Instead, Alex would jump away to make some distance while simultaneously slashing to send out a Slicing Wave at the frog so his retreat was somewhat covered, then turn around in midair, and start running the moment he hit the ground.(Slicing Wave) If not only did Alex get stunned but he was also now stuck under the CS, he'd need to get it off him first, pushing it off with all his strength, and then attempting the same escape maneuver as in the last scenario. He already knew that their escorts were too close to their destination to be caught up to at this point, so the rest of this was more about minimizing pointless casualties, and by extension, also stopping any of these CS from getting to freely evolve after eating them. |

Both Edward and Arona hastily shut their eyes to avoid being petrified, if not slowed. Edward then deployed two barriers with the last of his Prana as he tried to intercept Melkar. Edward's willingness to commit suicide was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. While Edward's barriers were the ones to receive the blow intended for Arona, as before, Edward would be knocked to the ground and trampled underfoot. And, since the two SOULs had been kind enough to line up, that naturally meant that if one got trampled the other would as well. (Edward: -5, -7, -16 Health) (Arona's Barrier: -35 Durability) Meanwhile, Alexander had to deal with his new friend. Having chosen to not try to react to or defend himself from the frog's prehensile tongue (despite his AP being cancelled in order to allow it), he would find himself launched through the air. Though he splashed down a moment later, the impact still left him somewhat battered and winded. (Alexander: -25 Health) The Hapaeru immediately set off in pursuit of Alexander, covering the distance in a few splashing hops. As it leapt forward with belly taut to slam itself down on Alexander, it found its trajectory barred by a heavy blade. Alex braced both himself and his sword for the impact, intentionally going out of his way to ensure his sword received less damage while still guarding himself. One would think that if they were looking to protect themselves, they'd guard properly; conversely, if one wanted to protect their weapon, they'd keep it out of the way of the attack. Well, be that as it may, the situation was how it was. Alex's sword still snapped in twain from the force of the Hapaeru's landing, but he had managed to reduce enough of the force to keep himself from being stunned or barreled over. It felt like there had been some sort of barrier protecting Arona in addition to Edward's, but if there was then it was considerably less obvious. As Melkar was starting to consider turning around, it felt a tiny something in its back right leg. ...Did it get hit? It was somewhat difficult to tell. (Melkar: -12, -12 Health) Edward, on the other hand, would definitely be able to confirm that his blows had connected. After all, the sword in his hand had completely dissolved, having been eaten away by some sort of acid contained within Melkar despite having been left planted in the ground. With any luck, the force of being hit by the tail would remove any attackers in the rear, or at least force them to escape long enough for Melkar to turn, which it would now do. Opening with its favored attack of using its front two legs to stomp enemies into the ground, Melkar would attempt to slam Edward down into the earth for the third time. Rather than continuing to barrel over him, though, Melkar would try to keep Edward pinned with its strength and mass as it lowered its mighty maw and began to feast on his body. It had intended to entirely crush its foe, but said foe was still standing, meaning that the Hapaeru was sort of just bizarrely leaning against Alexander. The Hapaeru frantically scrabbled to push itself backwards, trying to get itself into a better position where it might be able to rebalance itself and then retreat. (Un)Fortunately, Alexander was more than willing to lend a hand in its efforts to get off of him. Despite the pressure of the frog resting on his head, Alexander managed to resummon Luna in his hands, which were still relatively free due to the angle the hypotenuse Hapaeru was at. A faint melody could be heard in the distance as he prepared his swing. Then with a mighty impact, Alexander slammed the flat of his sword into the Hapaeru, sending it careening off to his left. (Hapaeru: -35 Health + Stunned) The Hapaeru landed with a splash as usual, though its landing was much less coordinated than its norm. As it tried to get its bearings and climb back to its feet, Alexander and Eukina (who didn't seem to do much of anything in her RP) took off running, though in separate directions. Alexander chose to go up and left on the map to gain distance from Melkar, while Eukina moved up and right to better regroup with Arona. (Stunned) Action Phase (Hapaeru): Blinking a little, the Hapaeru tried to restore its dazed senses and refocus itself. Once its consciousness had been regained, it would realize that both of its potential meals were trying to escape now. That wouldn't do, not in the slightest. A bit of resistance was acceptable, but attempting to escape was forbidden. But with the two courses going separate directions, it would have to focus on taking one at a time. Eeny meeny miny Alexander. Alexander didn't need to turn to hear the rapid splashing quickly drawing closer from behind him, though he probably would turn to check all the same. Doing so would show the Hapaeru rushing after him, taking a route slightly closer to vertically up the map (and thus slightly less to the left). Once it had drawn even with him horizontally, the Hapaeru would take a massive leap diagonally left and upwards in both the map and the air, flying significantly farther skywards than its previous leaps as it intended to land directly in Alexander's route and thus cut him off. However, Alexander would immediately realize as the frog crossed into his vision that its point of impact would be about two meters farther forward that he would be when it landed. Was it not intending to strike him, but merely cut him off? Was it still addled from Alexander's blow? Or was it planning on not landing on top of him? Only time would tell. And for better or worse, time was terrible at keeping secrets for long. Though Alexander's post writes that he would take a short jump in order to attempt to Counter any attack coming his way, evading so preemptively means that his evasion is vague almost to the point of absurdity. As such, I take the liberty of assuming that he takes his "short jump" primarily leftwards upon seeing the frog entering his current trajectory. Since it was a "short" jump, he doesn't move very far, but he still has some limited amount of time to react again. As the Hapaeru landed from its towering leap, the force of the impact briefly exposed the marsh mud to direct sunlight as a considerable quantity of water was displaced. Combined with the general shock moving through the air from the landing, the ring of displaced water would form into a wave as it pulsed outward from the impact point. Intermission The various other extras CS scattered around the vicinity would continue their advances at their respective speeds. In the wake of the Illumibee, a small swarm of Lumibees and another two Illumibees appeared. The new Hapaeru didn't seem to lead any new CS, but it rapidly hopped and swam its way across the marsh. The CS that had been concealed beneath the water in the middle right of the map now emerged to showcase themselves: a pack of monsters that, while quite small compared to the other CS in the area (each around the size of a person's torso, or some measurement like that), looked like they were also not to be trivialized. Then again, who had time to bother paying attention to them anyway? At least they were moving as a unit for now so that Alatar can keep them as just one sprite. And the hand-face-thing down in the bottom left proves just how terrible these monster sprites are surfaced its body, the twin tails splashing down as it raised its hulking form from the depths. With a fearsome bellow, it began to pound its way across the marsh as it marched towards the prey fleeing it. Note: the first one is the actual monster, for purposes such as color. The second pic is for another angle of the monster because this fandom is sad and doesn't have enough images out there yet. |

All these impacts and the amount he was jumping around made him pretty exhausted, combined with coughing occasionally from the poison effects, but he felt like he had just around enough for another hit and run attempt. Alex tanked the hit with his armor, not having reacted in time to guard.(Armor of Order:-?? Durability)(Alex:-?? Health) He realized he was incredibly close(2m away, nearly sword reach) and tried to exploit that opening.Alex made a quick step in and tried to stun it again, this time with a big smashing strike aimed down onto its head that'd smack it a bit deeper into the marsh.(Crushing Strike) Action Phase: After that, he'd take the time to get as close to the portal destination as he could. Meanwhile, since Alex is used to how long the stun will last, he won't look back at the frog until just a bit before when it would've recovered, or if he fails to stun, he looks back earlier and more frequently.(Run+Enter Portal if possible) |
