This last volume is as wonderful as the previous volumes, although it didn't cover the main story but the side-stories. The side-stories gave another depth to the supporting characters in Saiunkoku, and these layers of depth of the characters is I suppose, one of the factors that made me love this series.

I was so sad when I first heard that volume 9 would be the last volume. The storyline so far has only covered half of the anime's season 1! When i first heard that there was to be a manga adaptation, I was so excited, thinking that I would get to know what happened next after the end of the anime's season 2, but I suppose I was wrong. I am so very sad that the wonderful manga has ended.. I may be exaggerating it, but it really does feel as if a part of me died with this last volume... :(

How come it ends with volume 9? Was the manga adaptation financially unsuccessful or what? The art is just amazing and they still have so much material to cover. :/

I have no idea why it ends at volume 9 as well.. Perhaps it's not selling very well?? The manga is so amazing, I too can't understand why they discontinued it and leave us fans feeling all sad! :'(

And i was so looking forward to the manga covering the light novels materials too! :(

I wouldn't be sad that much if novels were translated. It doesn't seem probable that some American publishing house will translate them so I was hoping to get the story from manga. I guess no such luck... :(

Indeed, I think the same as you. And probably what made it no better is the fact that the manga just made me fall in love all over again (or even more so) with the series! It's like giving one appetizer and then leaving one to starve...

I am really hoping for that miraculous day when I will hear of some piece of news saying the light novels would be translated into English. I am not giving hope just yet, no wonder how thin it may seem right now. It's either that, or I am going to learn Japanese (which will also take time).

Volume 9 was just delivered to me. Good feeling to have it complete but then again - how "complete" is incomplete story? ;(

Actually I'm learning Japanese for like 2 years (attending a course) but I can't say I would be able to translate anything beyond elementary level. :/

those are the light novels. it says in that page itself:

There was a manga adaptation of the series published by Kadokawa Shoten which concluded with nine volumes.
