i mean she's married to him and hjave a child and when they send their messages if she loved him she should have mentioned the confession of suwa and them being married so the fact that in present she seems only concentrated on kakeru means she mentioned nothing of suwa to her past self wich is fucked up i mean basically means shew wanted to change the whole thing wich means she hated her life with suwa and that and deliberatly ommitted information to her past self to have the life she always wanted and that is (well for suwa) fucked up well the author could still pull the whole sshe just didn't want kakeru to die but unless later on we discover that in her letter she talked about her life with suwa(wich would be an asspul since new year is the time suwa confesses and if she wrote about him she would be conflicted on that day but in present she was only worried about kakeru meaning she has no information on future with suwa) that means she's basically a bitch i mean at least mention the life with suwa but still change but not mentionning it at all is a dick move

I believe she does. I don't think she'd marry Suwa and have a child with him if she didn't truly love him. Plus, she did say (in chapter 17 I think) she'd choose him over Kakeru even if he was still alive. Yes, there's always a possibility she could have been lying to make him feel better, but I don't think that's the case.

I don't think the fact she didn't tell her past self about her marriage to Suwa was because she wants to change that aspect of her life. I think it's more likely she doesn't want to influence her feelings and wants to make sure she falls in love with Suwa on her own.

YEAH you could see it that way and certainly the author might use that argument but the way her letter is written and all other informations throughout the 20 chapters point towards one direction wich is her living with suwa and their daughter while still in love with kakeru she even seems like she just settled for suwa and you could argue she couldn't know suwa would not confesse but if she was really happy in the future she wouldv'e mentionned him at least and their life since she can't be certain in her past there was no kakeru so she went to suwa but now she has two choices so if she still wants to be with suwa the second time as she said she wouldv'e mentionned her love and their life and seeing as in her past she had a slight cursh on kakeru but after their fight and suwa confession she turned to suwa so as her future self wants her past to not have the fight with kakeru that basically means nulling the confession, her past might be innoccent but the future one is certainly at fault

If she said anything about Suwa, Naho's feelings for him wouldn't develop well. She did say that the 16-year old Naho needs to thank Suwa for always looking out for him. That made him happy, didn't it? If she didn't love Suwa, I never would've shipped it.

I'm still reading the manga (I know I'm so behind) but at the end in Letter 6.

She did mentioned in the letter this:
· Suwa is the precious person who mended my heart.

Since I'm still in the early chapters, I think she fell in love with Suwa in process. After knowing all the sacrifices he did for her sake.

I think that she fell in love with Suwa during the time that she was sad because of Kakeru.

But you see, that is also my problem with Orange...Suwa love Naho but he cheered for Kakeru, does that mean he isn't truly happy being married to Naho? He love Naho but probably the guilt he felt is hindering him from being truly happy with her.
So wouldn't that make their relationship "pretentious"? like both of them are trying to make each other happy and pretend to be really happy when in truth they are both not truly happy because deep inside their heart there is guilt and regrets.

Naho too why would she keep the fact that she married to Suwa and have a child? doesn't that mean she's secretly hoping for the past Naho to end up with Kakeru?

Honestly, if Orange ended up with Kakeru being strong because of his friends without him needing to end up with Naho that will be better for me.
If something happened to Naho what will Kakeru do? lose the will to live again?
If Kakeru died will Naho lose the will to live as well?
I just can't help but think that if Naho and Kakeru ended up together, their relationship will be toxic...Kakeru will be dependent on Naho and Naho will keep on trying to help Kakeru.
*Yawn*

i think the future with naho married suwa will cease to exist because its a parallel world where kakeru doesnt exist. my point is if they had changed the present future also will.

I get what you're saying... But the reason they all wrote to their past selves was to save Kakeru. That was the objective and if he weren't to die it was likely inevitable that she'd end up with him instead of Suwa. Reason for not mentioning it would be to not influence the past and let past Naho make her own decisions of what feels right. Poor Suwa though, I feel for him. At that stage Naho was already in-love with Kakeru so it was brave of Suwa to support the two of them. Should he have told her how he felt anyway? Probably, even just for the sake of being true to himself. Maybe he should later on, after Kakeru is no longer suicidal. Hopefully in the sequel / alternate version Suwa finds happiness.

In the alternate past, when the teacher talked about the time travel thingy, she was so sad for her future self but after noticing how reliable suwa is, she had no doubts he would have helped her move on. In the original world, she may have loved kakeru but I'm confident her feelings for suwa was sincere that's why she said she would have chosen him even if kakeru was alive. I Mean he was the one who made the first move between him and kakeru in the original past. But for alternate world, kakeru and naho progressed too much so he probably wouldn't have stood a chance there haha

i think the answer lies on the spinoff chapters. i saw a scanlated copy but its in korean and i can barely understand some. In one of the chapters, if i understood it right, it seems like Suwa is the one who told Naho not to mention in her letter their marriage or something (sorry I am not really good in korean). We have to remember Suwa told to his past self to put down his feelings for Naho for her and Kakeru's happiness as he might've presumed that if Naho knows about her marriage with Suwa then she will have a hard time confessing even saving Kakeru.

Anyways Its kinda frustrating that no english translated spinoff chaps are out yet but I guess we have something to look forward to.

If you watch the Orange: Mirai Movie, you will know in the future, Naho asks Suwa that she should mention that she's married to him or not. However, Suwa says no. Suwa in the future has already decided that he has to save Kakeru and let Kakeru and Naho be together. However, he loves Naho. That's why he tells the past Suwa about his relationship with Naho in the future. The past Suwa can decide whether give up on Naho or not. But Suwa seems to toward the future where Kakeru and Naho be together more, so he tells Naho to not mention about their marriage. He wants to make sure Naho completely focus on saving Kakeru and being with Kakeru.
Naho actually loves Suwa in the future because he is the one who saved her hearts and sacrificed for her a lot. Naho doesn't love Suwa at first sight, but she does love him through process. She asks Suwa about mentioning their marriage in the letter because she knows that the past Naho loves Kakeru and if she knows about the future marriage with Suwa, she will feel guilty about loving Kakeru. If Kakeru is alive, she will definitely choose him, so she will feel guilty all the time if she knows the future.
However, the future Naho loves her family, her child and her husband a lot. That's why she asks Suwa before she decides to mention the marriage or not. In the anime, Suwa said that if he stole Naho from Kakeru and Naho won't get married with him if Kakeru was here. Then Naho replied that even Kakeru was here, she will still choose papa (Suwa).

what this tells me is even though she is with suwa she still hesitates to tell her past self about the marriage and even find excuse by asking him ,like knowing the character if suwa he is gonna do anything besides telling her not to tell her past self, also this stuff about her being with kakeru in present while still with suwa in futur is bullshit the minute she gets with kakeru her futur with suwa is destroyed ,its just a hoax to appease fans, there cant a future where there naho/suwa , so in conclusion even though she lived with suwa and family for how long she still indirectly chooses to be with kakeru in past that is weighin all the years with suwa and child still wasnt heavy enough for her in the face of a fleeting crush on kakreu, also where does it say to save kakeru she needs to be with him ,he is suicidal and that need therapy and friendships yes ,a relashionship with naho isnt really a must ,iots just crammed there to please fangirls and fanboys ,like i said i dont believe naho loved suwa ever ,i mean if you look at how much in the futur they lived together and she still throws it at the drop of a hat for another future (she could have been persistent about telling her pas but she was easily swayed since she still loved kakeru and never loved suwa ) wich makes me believe the author only inserted suwa to induce some angst feelings and the mary stu quota, and not to be a rival and a side charater

I believe she does love him. It doesn't compare to her real deep love towards Kakeru, but she loved him in a very special way. She knew he always cared about her and protected her and how much of a nice guy he was. Also, he never left her side so, she had to fall in love with him eventually. I mean, when you're constantly with someone and that person treats you right, you would usually end up getting feelings towards them. We like to feel special, important and loved and that's how he always made her feel.

Take a moment and think about this with an open heart, especially since I've not seen the latest addition (it comes out Tuesday!)
Maybe they don't work out due to different circumstances, maybe they go to different colleges, or Naho goes to a school and Kakeru doesn't. Maybe as they grow up they change and Naho meets up with Suwa and she finally realizes that she is more compatible with Suwa than Kakeru and she and Kakeru mutually break up and after some reconnecting with Suwa they start dating and get married. Maybe Orange goes deeper into that connection. maybe it shows you that love...sometimes dies. This is what I love about Orange, this manga (if you truly think about it) is able to join the ranks of Clannad in forms of heartbreak. We aren't able to see what goes on between Naho and Suwa after Kakeru dies, the anime alone doesn't show how Suwa came into the picture. This being stated as well, it doesn't show what happened THE FIRST time around, the other cast members ALL have their letters, maybe something didn't click and things weren't as clear as they grew to know Kakeru. Now, elaborating on the whole regret thing.

Future Naho kind of influenced past naho about loving kakeru. The future naho mentioned clearly in the letter when she will fall in love with kakeru. In the first place future naho is trying to change the past regrets, so why mention falling in love with kakeru, why not just ask to look after kakeru and let the past naho fall in love naturally (Decide for herself without any obvious pointers)
Just my thoughts, i really thought this manga ended with very self contradicting way.

Sorry for the bad English.

I don't think so. Naho really loved Kakeru, she only chose Suwa because he was the only one who was left who really cared for her, even if Kakeru lived and Suwa still opted to confess to her, i believe that Naho will always chose Kakeru over Suwa.

^ yup practically not telling her old self that she married suwa means she didn't really love him, i mean if she loved him in that timeline no matter how her old feelings were, she lived with suwa a long time they have a child and she supposedly loves him, so he should have an advantage no matter how unfair, it is cause that's how love works it's a war scene, love by definition is unfair if you love someone that means you don't love someone else in the same way(you can love different people but in different ways)

so the moment she omitted her marriage from her old self, while knowing that her old self had unresolved feelings for kakeru(i mean we're talking about the same person here) she kind of showed that she didn't love suwa presently in that timeline, cause if she did she would want to be with him in the other timeline also at the end no matter what( i mean she loves him now so why wouldn't she right) and would protect that future since it's her loved future(supposedly) but she kinda chose not to and wanted to get what she missed the first time even if it meant throwing suwa and their child aside

yeah the author might try to make it seem like there are two timeline(don't but it author just didn't have balls enough to stick with the selfish choice he made heroine do to satisfy fangirls) but honestly the important timeline was the one where the story happens and there(and in other timeline by not mentioning suwa) she showed she didn't actually love suwa as much, and even going with the flow and assuming there are two timelines when sending letter back nobody knew that, so she also didn't and still didn't mention her marriage that's practically game set for suwa there

in the first place it shouldn't be that to save suicidal tendencies he needs to be in a relationship with her thats just lazy writing, it was just to make it so that she ends up with kakeru, and have justification for it

what we're talking about is if she ever actually loved him, him being stupid and not going for her, or acting all self sacrificial for the benefit of the plot(ie the author forcing developement ) isn't the point here

For those wondering why Naho never mentioned that she was married to Suwa in the letter she sent...

In one chapter, they showed Naho writing the letter and she asked Suwa if she should write that they were married. His answer is... Not to tell her future self that they were married.

Even if future Naho told past Naho about the former's marriage to Suwa, IMO it would only strengthen suwa and naho's friendship and appreciation towards each other nothing else.

Romance between Naho and Suwa is impossible, because Naho ONLY LOVED KAKERU, even the ending in Mirai points towards this.

Just started watching the anime and while watching I also asked myself the same question. Did Naho in the future ever love Suwa? Then I reflected on my own life. You see my boyfriend when I was 17 (my first love) is not the person I am married to now. My ex is not even dead. But if you asked me then, I would have told you that I was certain that we were going to get married in the future. The reality is that as you grow older, you, your preferences and how yiu see people and things change. Naho did not mention her future with Suwa in the letter because she wants her past self to focus on saving Kakeru. Before, she also had feelings for him. Future Naho uses these feelings to motivate her past self to act on saving Kakeru. The decision of their future selves (Naho and Suwa) to not disclose their marriage to past Naho is actually very mature since they made saving Kakeru their top priority. The story ended in a cliffhanger to allow the audience to think of an alternative future for the parallel universe where Kakeru lives. Future Naho, knowing what she knows now about both Suwa and Kakeru, is contended and happy with the life she chose and family she has with Suwa. She expresses that when she said in the letters how special Suwa is for her. In conclusion, I believe that Naho loves Suwa. She has grown to see how much Suwa cared for her and also appreciate his qualities (one of which is having higher EQ compared to Kakeru).

Have you ever heard the phrase “maybe in another life”. Naho wasn’t operating on the principle that alternate realities exist so I think that she is happy in her own timeline where she’s married to suwa, but It another timeline she wants to be more courageous with her actions and really go for Kakeru. The timeline she never had a chance to pursue because he died. I don’t think that’s saying she regrets marrying suwa. That would be like you getting a job as a doctor but saying you wish you had more courage in the past to be an author. Just because you recognize your life could have been on a different course doesn’t mean that you don’t love your life now

I think, she genuinely does.
Love is nothing that accidentally happens to people. It's something you base on friendship, trust and understanding and then you work on it.
I'm glad that Orange was one of the Shoujo-manga that seemed to understand that... kinda of?
Suwa and Naho has always been close friends since their school time, they even have a friend circle together, Suwa had a crush on her and then the grief about Kakeru connected them in that future scenario.
They both wanted to save his life and Suwa is imo awesome that he gives up on his future for his life.

^ exactly, all of it
Naho loves Suwa in world, where Kakeru died- but she started loving him years after graduation and his efforts for her (we could see it in volume 6)
I think you, who claim that she don’t love him, underestimate future Naho. I mean you don't see her as human with the rights to change her feelings but only as heroine of manga where she stubbornly clings to her first, teenage love (who had gone)- even after many years. Ok, it could take her a lot of time to cope with this massive pain in her heart but life goes on and she had no other choice, but get used to live without Kakeru and let this feel for him go. That is life.

But in world, where they saved Kakeru, we can't be sure what future brought- and it depends only on our interpretation.
More possible version is the marriage with Kakeru, cuz they matched better and their’s characters were more compatible (this is, what Suwa claimed even in future). Suwa also decided to not interfere with their relationship , so it could means, that he never confessed her.
But you can't exclude the possibility of her marrying Suwa.
I also, having boyfriend at 17 was thinking that he was my last love forever; and others from our high was convinced about it as well. But life was different and at first ideal match and characters turned out not to be able to be together always.

So if we look at manga as typical, plain, romance story, Naho and Kakeru will live happily ever after in this new, created future; but if we consider their relationship as normal story in normal world when the easiest happy endings not always occure, we can't say for sure with who she will be (maybe Hagita haha).

This, so much this.

Romance between Naho and Suwa is impossible, because Naho ONLY LOVED KAKERU, even the ending in Mirai points towards this.

what we're talking about is if she ever actually loved him, him being stupid and not going for her, or acting all self sacrificial for the benefit of the plot(ie the author forcing developement ) isn't the point here

I don't think so. Naho really loved Kakeru, she only chose Suwa because he was the only one who was left who really cared for her, even if Kakeru lived and Suwa still opted to confess to her, i believe that Naho will always chose Kakeru over Suwa.

I don't know where are you trying to get calling her a bitch or whatever else. Thing is really simply.

Naho loves Kakeru > Kakeru dies > Naho is depressed > Suwa saves her and then she falls for him.

She didn't use Suwa as a replacement for Kakeru, she developed feelings for him since he's the one by her side all the time after Kakeru kills himself.

The purpose of the letters are to save Kakeru, there's no reason to mention that she's married with Suwa in the future, this actually would get in the way considering how Naho acts. Suwa himself knows this and actually ask for his past self to NOT get in the way of Naho and Kakeru, instead of this he should help them get together since he's well aware of their mutual feelings and regrets keeping quiet about this because of his own feelings for Naho.

Her future self is in love with Suwa and manages to find happiness but still regret letting Kakeru die. Hell, Orange is about regret, so not only Naho but ALL the cast regrets how they handled Kakeru and basically let him die for not being by his side.

Then Naho replied that even Kakeru was here, she will still choose papa (Suwa).

i think the answer lies on the spinoff chapters. i saw a scanlated copy but its in korean and i can barely understand some.

Reika-chan19 said:
If she said anything about Suwa, Naho's feelings for him wouldn't develop well. She did say that the 16-year old Naho needs to thank Suwa for always looking out for him. That made him happy, didn't it? If she didn't love Suwa, I never would've shipped it.

I'm still reading the manga (I know I'm so behind) but at the end in Letter 6.

She did mentioned in the letter this:
· Suwa is the precious person who mended my heart.

Since I'm still in the early chapters, I think she fell in love with Suwa in process. After knowing all the sacrifices he did for her sake.
Cuebee said:

I just can't help but think that if Naho and Kakeru ended up together, their relationship will be toxic...Kakeru will be dependent on Naho and Naho will keep on trying to help Kakeru.
kindliercrappy said:
i think the future with naho married suwa will cease to exist because its a parallel world where kakeru doesnt exist. my point is if they had changed the present future also will.
SaturnSkye said:
LoveHeidiNao said:
In the alternate past, when the teacher talked about the time travel thingy, she was so sad for her future self but after noticing how reliable suwa is, she had no doubts he would have helped her move on. In the original world, she may have loved kakeru but I'm confident her feelings for suwa was sincere that's why she said she would have chosen him even if kakeru was alive. I Mean he was the one who made the first move between him and kakeru in the original past. But for alternate world, kakeru and naho progressed too much so he probably wouldn't have stood a chance there haha

I m sorry for quoting, but have you seen the sequel to orange called orange mirrai
The movie plot and ending literally speaks that naho and suwa weren't happy and they were pretending to be happy
Like naho saying she would choose suwa was just vague statement to make suwa feel better for his guilt
In the end we get to see a naho smiling after having dreams of her and kakeru married together which blatantly confirmed that she was never Happy with suwa there marriage was loveless and didn't got over kakeru too
That was the main reason why suwa told her not to wrote about there marriage in the letter

It was like destiny never had suwa's side and romance between them was impossible
Even suwa himself said in the movie that she was able to marry naho because of kakeru being dead
She had a baby with suwa well because she was obligated as his wife(in most of the Asian countries this has been seen wife do perform there duty of raising a family even though there may or may not love there partner)

Basically the movie was made to hurt suwa fans

I've never seen the movie (and anime yet), but I suppose that it covers last volume of manga? So plot is basically the same.
I don't think they weren't happy, but they had to live with a burden on their shoulders accusing themselves of not saving Kakeru.
It is obvious, that Naho still has some feelings towards teenage Kakeru even after many years, but c'mon, why would she marry the man she doesn't love? It doesn't make sense.

The reason she married was given in the movie
Suwa said when i confessed her on new year eve i was rejected
But when i used kakeru death to get close to her and marry her(he used kakeru's persona) to get close to her and proposed her
She was weak and vulnerable at that time
That's why he got married to her
But then he wrote these words in letter
'i was wrong'
He couldn't do it
One of the promising evidence is that movie ending where naho still gets kakeru's dream
That she wasn't happy
