Damn, that fire came out of nowhere and now the vaccination clinic is gone before it could really take off. That was painful to watch. Tezuka's das was literally stunned.

That wasn't even the saddest part of the episode tho. When they just breezed through all the names of people who got executed, despite the repetitive animation, it was pretty terrifying. That kind of shit creeps me out because it reminds me how quickly people can go there and that that probably hasn't changed much since then.

But as expected the dictator ended up being slain, which was quite satisfying. Those Mito retainers tho, even committing seppuku afterwards. Japan sure knows how to go through people who have a sense of justice and civic pride.
I probably regret this post by now.

This was quite the eventful episode.

After all the trouble everyone went through, it's truly a shame that the vaccination clinic got burned down. I guess it's easy to figure out that the same party, who also assassinated the potenial donator was responsible for it.

A lot of brave people lost their life, but also Ii Kamon, he had it coming, tho.
Also congrats to Tezuka for becoming a father.

As usual excellent summary in the thread. The reappearance of Toubei reminded me of the poor woman who got raped by Toubei, the one that fell in love with Manjirou. I presume that she is still staying with Toubei in his dilapidated shack in a futile attempt to prevent Manjirou from being slain by him. Will she reappear in the show? It would be a hefty statement in itself by conveniently shuffling her under the carpet to illustrate the cultural values of that period. One woman's life is utterly insignificant to the turbulent changing times.

This series is so steeped with history. It is somewhat unfortunate in my opinion we could not further expand on these historically important characters and create a 100 episode series like LOTGH. Would've been so interesting to watch.

I feel bad for Ryousen losing his lifework the western vaccination clinic, well at least his grandson has been born who maybe can continue it. Satisfying to see the dictator guy die despite it having costed a lot of other lives too. Seeing that piece of shit who raped Shina again makes my blood boil, hope he gets slain soon by Manjirou
