Hi,

I was wondering can I watch this as a standalone instead of watching all the prequels.

I Haven't watched it but I have heard that most of the Lupin Seasons are Self Contained with 1 or 2 references to the old stuff for the Old Fans. You ca Probably watch it while missing out on some references but really minor ones so there shouldn't be a problem

Yes, you can.

However, this season contains a bunch of jokes and references to prequels, so you should at least take a look at the last season. But it's not necessary to cunderstand what's going on.

Just watch the previous one, IMO. The 2015 series.

You will still find it entertaining af without the prequels, but ofc, some jokes will fly over your head.

My only experience with the Lupin franchise was Yamamoto's Lupin III: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna before watching Lupin V. Other than knowing who the characters are, I was pretty much unaware of the originals. It hasn't mattered at all as this series is pretty self-contained.

In terms of story, Lupin has, in the past, kept things pretty self-contained, with the only recurring thing essentially being the main cast.

The only thing this series has are some minor cameos and references to previous series. The stories themselves can absolutely be followed just fine. The only thing you need to know going-in are "Lupin and his gang are thieves that go after grand treasures."

Sure you can enjoy any part and other movies and special episodes standalone however this part(V) takes bunch of references and developments from previous parts so you might not able to fully appreciate how this part develops.

Better watch the prequels... you're going to miss out a lot on character developments & the mind of Lupin himself

You just need the 2015 show.

But it'd help to watch the other shows too.
