THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This series is seriously beginning to focus on the theme of fate.

A lot about despair happening this episode, like a curse. And it's happening over and over. I've seen series with this type of storytelling so it's rather generic although I'll try to keep my hopes up.

The first 6 episodes are all but a distant memory now. Heck, am I watching the same anime?

I guess the studio is trying to aim for a Disney-like bait and a Madoka-like twist, worked pretty well so far, despite the terrible storytelling. Now all it needs is a decent ending to secure its dark-horse title.

Also, nice touch on the ED/OP swap, really helps confusing the audience beyond all logic.

Can we expect the score to go up to at least a 7? Guess not if it stays raw...

I don't think so.
There are 2 Finis. The one born in Rin area and the one who is immortal and trapped in the loop of time.

Nice! Time to get some score up now.

I just dont get what is she pursuing, she just want the world to end for real instead of reseting? And while she did not found a way to do that she just kept living in the loop? So the first 7 episodes where about which time line exactly?

Or she just got crazy and want to keep destroying the world again and again as some kind o punishment?

If she could be at the same timeline of another Finis I think she would just stop the other Finis before she get tricked. I think there is different time lines too and as she said she will never meet the "that" same Henry again.

My current understanding:

There is only one Finis and the whole timeline is linear. However the world/civilizations had been destructing and re-constructing due to various reasons (meteorites/volcanoes etc @10:12) but Finis remained survived as she became immortal (call this awakening).

By coincidence, in each era there is someone who looks just like and shares the same name as Henry. But they aren't the Henry Finis first met due to difference in behavior and memory.

Henry of a particular era calculated that it would take 60k years until the next stellar collision, which is exactly the era Rin currently lives, as we can observe that a star is getting closer to the planet every episode. From this we can also deduce that Finis had lived much longer than 60k years. (too legal)

The era which Rin exists much resembles like the era before Finis had awakened (@18:45). Henry in this era had possibly met the awakened Finis and found that she was weaponized in wars before he encountered Rin. He speculated that she was being forced to do so and decided to save her. But apparently, Finis pretended that she was being captured (@21:24) as to pursue her plan where she could have easily disobeyed by her power.

In Finis(unawakened)'s era, Prince Lood rules and leads the wars. Finis is forced to fight.
In Rin's era, the king rules and Bazra leads the war. Finis(awakened form) casts fire everywhere like a boss. The technology is much advanced than Finis's era.

Singing those songs has the effect of pulling the star to the planet.
The switching of opening with ending in this episode probably means the beginning is the end and vice versa.

The early episodes were intentionally made to be Disney-liked, to show you how a good plot can build on something full of flaws.

I do believe there is only one Finis. I suppose the timeline is like:
year 0: Finis ruined the world and got cursed to be immortal. Then she entered loop of time.
year X: In one loop, Finis met a different Henry and found that she could never meet the same Henry.
year Y: In another loop, one astronomer Henry claimed that after 60000 years this planet will be hit by the satellite.
year Y+60000: the current time, Lin's story started and she met the present Finis in the end of 8th episode.
The scriptwriter use many strategies to deceive audiences that Rin and Finis are in the same timeline and uncover this in the 8th episode. I have to say, THATS AMAZING.

I think at first she wanted to find a similar Henry, but then she realized thats impossible so she just wanted to kill herself. As she is immortal, she wanted to ruin the whole planet to achieve it.

She was burned into a bonfire and beaten to death , I think she was probably "compelled" to taste some dicks at few opportunities without much choices. But she probably tried some few Henrys too to make sure was not the 'same'.

I think even the story was going decently well , episode 8 kinda gave it a boost but at the same time it created quite few story loophole and many questions imho regarding some chars origins , like why did it took so many times for them to appear? or appear again? Its just a mess tbh
This is 10% luck, 20% skill 15% concentrated power of will 5% pleasure, 50% pain And a 100% reason to remember the name!

I can see there being multiple time lines, but one things still doesn't add up to me. Rin encountered Leobolt a second time while he was on his way to save Finis. If this was a different Leobolt (Rins timeline) does he know Finis? Or are there two Leobolts who know and don't know Finis?

Best episode by far! Some good discussion here too about the timelines. I was getting a bit tired of this show and this was just the twist it needed. Unexpected for sure.
Not unexpected: MAL discussion boards also talking about dicks and rape.

The plot twist explained in this episode was quite clear, like i saw in anime few times before.

- Finis become immortal.
- She was the responsible for the extinction of Dinosaurs lol (which was not dinos, but humans from medieval fantasy)
- How is implied, she is living for millions of years.
- Earth resets and civilization repeats after era to era, without letting vestiges to archeologists. "Dark matter and stuff" F*ck the science, its fantasy anime baby!

And FINally, Finis's endgame is FINish the world, once for all, by colliding the moon on it with the power of Death Song and Orchestra (an intire moon this time, and not just lame meteors).

This set of events from this and previous episode caught me off guard. Was not expecting this from the Disney anime lol

Good luck Madoka Rin!
