This was so strange. The way the show operates with these guys with the masks on their faces...

At this rate, it feels the comedy is pushing to get all the characters into the spotlight, not just the magical girls/guys. It was so strange seeing the two main leads taking a break/vacation. An episode about making anime lol

Totally filler episode...oh God, why???

Instead...the expository went towards the issues of the anime industry as a whole...can't even think...

this show is a worthy successor of Pop Team Epic

I honestly don't know if this was the most brilliant or most retarded episode this season.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Anime was saved, gotta praise this thing.
No tomo malas decisiones, solo me gusta apoyar causas perdidas.
Disfruté Mayoiga, Ou-sama Game, Evil or Live, Mirai Nikki, Big Order, Arifureta, Ex-Arm, Tesla Note, Shuumatsu no Harem y Platinum End
nope les falle con esa, lo siento pero todos tenemos nuestros límites.
Así de jodido es mi gusto en anime, ¡Y estoy pinche orgulloso de ello!

I don't know what this anime wants to be or is trying to do any more. I don't think it knows either...

Oh well, that was pretty enjoyable even if it was kinda pointless to the main plot.

I'm not surprised people here missed the point of this episode but this was a big fuck you to the entire anime industry and studio pierrot. I have many questions. How did this episode get aired on TV? The director even deleted his twitter account.

Lmao everyone's over here like "this sucked" "filler shit" etc etc and I'm over here like this was the best episode of this series so far. Love the ultra-meta take on it, and perfectly timed for Golden Week in Japan. I don't like this series much anyway, maybe a 6/10, but this episode actually made me like it more.

Agreed. Comedy is hit or miss and this wasn't what people we're expecting so its understandable i guess. Thought it was hilarious though.

It's not the Slates that is essential to people. What we need is...

plus, it's a filler, so i won't really be missing anything :P

When last week's next episode preview was just a bunch of processed filtered photos, I was already wondering what they were hiding, but I definitely didn't expect that an episode called "Magical Girl - On Vacation" was going to be something like T h i s,, You can't say they didn't warn us! hahahaha h a

well, i'm a fan of osomatsu-san style comedy, so i enjoyed this angle of genre hi-jacking. even though i might not have (had the time to) burst out laughing at any one joke, i know my jaw was just permanently dropped through the entire episode at how many jabs they were throwing at the whole anime industry, and i'm still shook.

there's probably more shows that have japanese crunch time rush too, but personally, i remember the end credits sections for the last few eps of yuri on ice that were painfully cramped with external key animators and other staff. watching this makes my heart go out to all the people who help make sure an episode gets out in time.

i do wish this episode came later in the season--perhaps as an epic tease of an entire filler episode smack dab in the middle of a tense cliffhanger. but hey, it's golden week, the fujimotos are still relevant at this point, and reducing how many characters have sparkle shoujo eyes they need to draw, animate, and color and replacing them with mob charas with scribble eyes probably saved a lot of time in production too.

this ep was so wild.

I get what this episode was trying to do and make fun of, but whilst some of the jokes were great, the execution on the whole was terrible. The tone of the episode was thoroughly blindsiding, which was only made worse after the previous episodes' pacing problems.

I'm liking the series okay so far and I will keep watching it (especially considering the preview we got for next week), but for this one... it has been a VERY long time since I considered dropping a series mid-episode. And I'm a completionist by nature.

Magical Girl...on Vacation. I guess they timed this episode for Golden Week.

Self-awareness at its finest! They probably used this episode to save up for the next one. Well this isn't the first time an anime made fun of its own studio. Fushigi Yuugi back then also did the same thing calling Studio Pierrot "cheapskates". Not as satisfying as the previous episodes, but I'll take it. I just hope the anime industry isn't going have trouble this season like what this episode was showing.

Never watch a meta parody of many things into one episode at 2 am in the morning. I bet this is a nod to the hard working animators on this series... And the girls are on a vacation.

A filler with a meta filler.

I think this episode would be funny to people if they understood most of the reference; a lot of times I was going like huh? because I didn't know the people's names and how the anime production/process works xD but it was still enjoyable

References I found

Wowwww. Just wow. Probably the most meta and out-of-left field episode ever.

Started with a clever nod to Osomatsu-san. The blue lines thing made me laugh. Thought it was going to end after the OP but no... This episode took a completely different and bizarre direction. Basically made a dramatic story about tight outsourced anime productions, with metaphors and Cizilla. DID NOT UNDERSTAND IT. The plot was just... no. But I really appreciated it! I feel like it might have been understandable if you pay really close attention, and actually this episode could be a very interesting commentary on stressful anime productions that hardcore anime fans should check out. I couldn't stop watching because of this, but sadly I was lost throughout, and the comedy was mostly very weak. And them some woman who I can only identify as Rebel Wilson shows up... like what xD

I'm simply fascinated by this episode, but I'm ready to get back to the actual Mahou Shoujo Ore plot. Looks like next episode is gonna have come close interactions with the 2 girls and a whole lot of manservice...
