| its some sort of spin-off of Ashita No Joe the characters of Megalo Box are influenced by the old characters of Ashita No Joe plus the story of boxing and possibly the ending too so its like a modern retelling of that classic anime Ashita No Joe but you can just watch Megalo Box as a standalone show i never seen Ashita No Joe too but i read some spoilers about its ending |
| It's an alternative setting, plus some of the story elements have changed to fit that. The original one took place in postwar Japan and it was an underdog story, with Joe being an orphan delinquent who ends up in a juvenile and turns to boxing to scrape a future for himself. In a sense, it was the same: in Japan, orphans were treated like less than dogshit, with family relations and blood being important, and even adopting kids were being shunned. I don't know much about the current situation, but maybe it's better now (but not great). EDIT: speaking of the devil, I need to finish the manga one day |
