There's a theory floating around that during their return in the last scene the "welcome home" message is pointed out to be from Jung and reason being is that it's slightly misspelled. It's a theory people seem to believe, and although a beautiful sentiment, I can't find any source or evidence in the show that would indicate that Jung was involved other than her mentioning it before their separation. I can't find any incident of her incorrectly spelling words or using such a unique misspelling before. If anyone knows of a source that can prove or disprove this theory that'd be great.

I also plan to rewatch DieBuster sooner rather than later to help put things in perspective but I'm fairly certain I don't remember any mention of who came up with the idea of a sign or why it's misspelled.

This is the type of thing that plagues my nightmares. Any help would be appreciated.

Also how did the GunBuster make it back to Earth exactly? The journey had to have been short enough for the both of them to survive on what little resources they had but long enough to rule out any means of convenient travel (such as warp). Is that information ever divulged at any point?

I'm not sure about the misspelt message, I don't remember seeing any kanji or so forth anywhere in Diebust (though it wouldn't exactly stand out so I might just not remember seeing any) but if that is the case it could mean that the Chinese/Japanese alphabet is no longer used so they had to do some digging on how to actually spell 'Welcome Back', though I understand that's a longshot.

In terms of how they got back, I'm no scientist but I imagine they used all conceivable power left in Gunbuster to warp back, obviously fighting against the force of the black hole, which caused the strain to be larger, and thus the warp, for them maybe only taking a number of minutes, might have been 12,000 years to earth I suppose. I mean there's no way of knowing for sure, but I suppose that's the whole point of putting time travel in fiction so that you can theorise on how exactly it works.
