THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The main problem this movie faces is that it just isn't nearly as good as December Sky. I still think Bandit Flower is an impressive film that is a good addition to the Gundam franchise.

Gundam Thunderbolt was able to deliver again some amazing action sequences. I was able to import the 4K version and I was extremely impressed. I was also impressed that Bandit Flower is exploring a time period that isn't well developed from what I can tell. I always wondered by the Titans formed out of the Earth Federation after the One Year War, but Bandit Flower is doing a good job showing that the Earth Federation wasn't as victorious as it felt after watching the original Gundam.

The main problem with Bandit Flower is that the movie decided to make no attempts to progress the story. December Sky endeavored to tell a complete story from beginning to end, while Bandit Flower was a 90 minute hype video for the next movie. This is one of the few times where I wish there was an exposition dump, because it wasn't clear what was even going on for most of it. I still don't know why the Earth Federation and the Zeon Remanent fought each other in what I assume was the antarctic. It looked like they just needed a battle for the movie. It was also frustrating that movie didn't bother to provide answers until the last scene. It took all this time for everyone to finally learn what was at stake.

My biggest issue is that the movie wastes Io Fleming and Daryl Lorenz. Their duel was the central line through December Sky, but now they're just there doing action stuff. Neither of them really developed in the movie, and the only interesting thing is that both are still caught by the women of their past. That's a really cool thing, but I don't feel it was strong enough as its own thing.

I don't quite know what to think about Bianca Carlyle. She's the only new character I found particularly interesting, but she isn't explored. Her tattoos were an awesome symbol to show that there is much more about her than we've seen, and she has good chemistry with Io that was interesting to watch. I particularly enjoyed Cornielius's reactions. There is tremendous potential for some awesome plot points with her, but it looks like that will have to wait for the next movie.

I don’t know why but I liked this movie more than the 2nd season… maybe it has to do with watching it all in one sitting opposite to the OVA who I had to wait to see the conclusion in a span of months.

One thing that I agree with OP is that season one was superior to the second season.

Meh. The movie was basically more "cool stuff being blown up" and more "likable characters dying;" just like everything else outside the Build franchise.

The question I wanna ask, though: What's the difference between the OVA and the Movies? There were extra scenes featuring "dead-not-dead" characters, and extra scenes featuring other characters that weren't featured in the OVA. But I'm not too sure.

Yeah, like Build is something more then a generic tournament battle shounen arc but with tons of Gundam references.

What's the difference

Well this movie has some extra scenes like the crew not liking Io, explanation that Atlas's joints are zeonic technology, prolonged battle on the ice ect.

I like for characters not to die, thank you very much.

Nice recap movie
One thing I like from this movie is now I know who the traitor inside the spartan ship since the Manga never get translated thanks to sunrise copyright law to zeonic scanlations.

Good 2nd season. Preferred the 1st season tho. Loved the Io and Bianca performance.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).

This was honestly a better compilation film than the previous one. Regardless of your feelings on the content as a whole of either entry, this one added more new footage than the previous one did. December Sky only added one scene of the battle of A Boa Qu and Io's escape at the very end, whereas Bandit Flower added five additional scenes of varying length, with two for episode 5, one for 6, and two for 8 if I recall correctly. In addition, Bandit Flower's episodes flow much smoother in movie format than December Sky's, which is likely due to the nature of the episodes of each season.

It was a fine compilation film. Subtle nuances that set it apart from the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt truly made the film superior to the ONA series. It definitely was not the case with the previous compilation film.

Even more so than the plot, I enjoyed the sight of Acguys slugging it out with hostile suits. I cannot get enough of those cute things, it is a shame that the show's gunpla line-up does not include a version of the Acguy.

So this movie really confirms to me that Newtypes can control/manipulate people telepathically, I believe Scirocco did it in Zeta Gundam but it just wasn’t as clear as the way this movie was.

A great continuation!
Different type of episodes compared to season 1 but is adapting the manga.
Seems people forget the fact that the course is already set.
Terrible cut off point, part 3 when?

A shame I came late to this. The luscious art and animation is just a delight and some of the new characters were a lot more relatable than the ones in the first team, specially Bianca who was a delight.

(Watched ONAs about 4 years ago and now the movies). If I had some recollection of the first season story, second one I completely forgot, which essentially makes it forgettable, especially the turn of events with monk Newtypes. And here I wondered why I rated season 2 lower...

The main problem is that the story doesn't really go anywhere. Just some action, new character introduction, more action, some character conflict, brainwashing and... nothing of the substance really. Would be probably okay if it had some continuation planned but so far it's not the case. The previous one at least had very strong emotional impact and a sort of finished well-rounded story.
